RED STAR IN THE SKY GORYEO (The Scent Of Life 2)
CHAPTER 25 THE REBELLION OF WANG GYU

The palace looks tense. There were two armies facing off in the palace courtyard. They all wear armor to fight. Tidily lined with shield and sword. One was led by the Crown Prince, the other by Wang Gyu, King Taejo's father-in-law.

Wang Gyu's rebel forces had broken through the outer castle fortress and had already entered the inner fort. In the fort in the army has lined up to welcome the arrival of rebels who do not want Wang Mu appointed as a successor to the king. He wanted his grandson Wang Eun to be made king after King Taejo died. Only the silence and the whirring of the wind were created for a moment when their views clashed.

"You dare commit treason when the king's majesty is not in the palace. What do you want?" wang Mu asked his father-in-law Wang Gyu.

"I don't want a weak figure like you to take the place of the king's majesty. All this time I have warned you often of your brothers who want your position, but the noble has never listened to my advice. You let them stab you in the back. Wang Mu, give up, you don't deserve to be king!" obviously Wang Gyu.

"I, son of Wang Geon, crown prince of this land. I won't let anyone tear apart Goryeo's wholeness" Wang Mu swore.

Wang Gyu smiled cynically. "Then, there's nothing I can do but raise a sword to bring you down" Wang Gyu replied.

Without waiting for long Wang Gyu started shouting giving the command to attack. So did Wang Mu. Two forces are fighting each other. Along with the sound of an eagle screeching in the sky because of the smell of blood and corpses that were scattered. Civil war is happening. The sound of shouting, the clanking of swords, the neighing of horses, the whirring of wind and dust rippled among those who were thirsty for blood and power. The stench of death uproots every soul that lives on the sword. They died for their own masters.

The glint of sunlight did not dampen the war. Until at last Wang Gyu faced Wang Mu head-on. They clashed with weapons and moves until the old Wang Gyu finally fell defeated and injured. The Wang Gyu warriors immediately set up a formation around protecting Wang Gyu. They began to confront, while some people fled Wang Gyu out of the palace. They rode the horses to save themselves. As for the remaining, they had to die in vain as traitors.

It is regrettable that the brothers had to kill each other just for the sake of a mortal power in the world. Wang Gyu was Wang Geon and Wang Mu's in-laws at once. Wang Gyu had three daughters, two married to Wang Geon and one married to Wang Mu.

Wang Gyu often advised Wang Mu to be careful with his brothers especially Wang Yo and Wang So of the Yu Clan, but his advice was considered last wind. Wang Gyu planned to put his grandson Wang Eun in place of Wang Mu. That's why he was planning a rebellion, and the right time was when the king wasn't in the palace.

News of Wang Gyu's rebellion in the palace reached King Taejo's ears at the hunting grounds. They immediately decided to return to Songak. The country is in precarious condition. While the Wang Gyu Clan including Wang Eun could not dwell because at the order of the king, the soldiers immediately detained them to be arrested.

Hearing the news about Wang Gyu's rebellion made Byeol anxious about Wang Eun's fate. He ran to his father's tent.

"Dad, it seems like what I saw at the palace gate used to be a reality" Byeol told Choi Ji Mong. Implied anxiety on Byeol's face.

"We'll see next," said Mr. Choi, also looking unsettled.

"I want to see Wang Eun's condition" Byeol said anxiously.

"Byeol don't interfere. Let history flow. You have no right to change it" said Mr. Choi.

Byeol felt sad mixed with disappointment with his helplessness to help Wang Eun. There comes a time when a clan is uprooted, they will all be wiped out as in Byeol's vision.
