Return of the Class 8 Mage

Return of the Class 8 Mage
71. final decision (1)

After the execution of Herbert, the ruler of the tower, Ragnar's sentence of confinement to his bed was lifted in time. ‘Dumpil Moret’, the old knight, who had been assigned to enforce the confinement order, had entered the room to notify of the appointment.

 “My Lord, Your Majesty!”

Ragnar's room is very dark. In addition to closing all curtains, the light is deliberately blocked to ease sleep by using ‘engineered products Mado’ lamp cover.

“Has the execution been done? Tower lord”

 “Iya. It has been implemented.”

 “I saw.”

Is it because Ragnar's voice is so heavy. A wide variety of emotions were heard through his inner voice - wrath, loss, confusion and even feelings of abandonment. However, there is a loss of sadness or sympathy.

 “I heard you, please go.”

 “Please don't be too sad.”

 “Ha-ha….. Don't be sad?”

It was a very ceremonial expression. Ragnar could only give an empty laugh because he also thought so. However, Dumpil's actions were not like that. He put a piece of paper on the table. It was a carefully folded note. He even lit a candle, so it could be read.

 “What is it?”

Ragnar asked as he began to be on guard.

The old knight, Dumpil, replied in a soft voice.

 “Then I will go now.”

No more mentioning the notes until the end.

After bowing, he just walked out of the room.

 “……”

Ragnar opened the note after seeing Dumpil leave the room. It's not too long. Even so, Ragnar continued reading. He read, reread, and read again. The note Dumpil left behind did require such attention.

 “But.”

After Ragnar continued to spit out what the note said for a while, he burned it using candle flames.

 “There's a chance?”

The burning flames illuminated Ragnar's smile.

It was a smile full of desire than before.

Greenriver Empire conducts investigations focused on black magic and pays great attention to security. Primarily, every individual within the palace became the subject of a focused investigation. Aren't they the heart of the empire? The number of servants for starters, the knights as well as court magicians, and even the royal family from the noble lineage should all be equally ‘investigated’.

 “Aduh....!”

Of course, the person in charge was Ian. Since this was the most rigorous investigation, it was fitting that the most capable witch would do it. Only Ian's physical stamina was challenged.

“Yeah, I have to make sure to nurture a brilliant pupil or something.”

Ian murmured as if complaining as he did an investigation on the hundreds of people inside the palace, alone. It's just logical. Ian is the only magician capable of using the spell ‘great cancellation’ from the start. He thought of the phrase, ‘force majeure’.

‘Even the Fairy Queen is not very useful.’

That's what he wants to do. He wanted to make use of the Elf Queen's eyes, eyes that could see Magi during this wide investigation. To conclude, it was just a huge failure.

‘Magi can be more ambiguous than expected.’

All Ian wants is one, ‘energy black magic’. However, the ‘magi’ that the Fairy Queen could see was much more diverse. That is, not just black magic, but innate evil, thoughts of direct killing, various diseases, and other similar negative elements will all be placed in the same bucket as ‘magi’. For example, let's pretend that the Fairy Queen comes face to face with Ragnar, who is full of dark thoughts. It is clear that the Fairy Queen is going berserk, claiming that the magi are overflowing.

“It will only add confusion to everything.”

In the end, there is only one way.

Ian had to take on the task himself.

‘However, it is only for a short time.’

He could see the end of a prolonged and exhausting investigation into black magic. What remains now is the royal family. From the crown prince to the prince, concubine, and princess, once they were investigated, the work would be finished. Ian was relieved and his mind became calm.

Knock it! Knock it!

Then he heard a knock at the door.

It's time for the royal family to be investigated.

Ian fused his hair as he responded.

 “Please enter.”

Soon the door of the palace guest room that was used as an interrogation room for several days had been wide open. It was the crown prince, Hayden Greenriver, who entered the room to become the first royal to be investigated.

 “There, Ian!”

“Your Highness, crown prince.”

As Ian met him to convey his courtesy, the crown prince responded with a smile. He always smiled whenever he met Ian, but that smile had become more purposeful lately.

“I heard you've been so busy lately? It's hard to see you today. ”

“I'm sorry, Milord.”

“Not something to forgive. I also know why you are so busy. Therefore, I have come to visit you, personally like this, to be investigated about black magic and to see you, my son, as well. They refer to things like this as killing two birds with one, single, single ...”

 “That's just one stone, Milord.”

“Ah, correct! Kill two birds with one stone! I'll think about it. Cough!”

“Ah, correct! Kill two birds with one stone! I'll think about it. Cough!”

The crown prince let out an empty cough as he sat on the chair.

He is the same person today as he was 5 years ago.

Even though he had become much better now compared to back then….

 ‘Wait.’

Ian observed the crown prince's never-changing appearance.

Suddenly, a thought flashed through his head.

 ‘….. Could it?”

The crown prince was certainly born with a great bloodline.

Although it was a simple memorization, there was a touch of talent as well.

However, how could he permeate the idea of being such a simple person?

Not even average, but below that?

‘It could be the effect of black magic.’

What if the stupidity that the crown prince showed all along was the effect of black magic? The chances are not too low. It's actually much higher. The tower lord had devised many plans to enthrone Ragnar. The crown prince was clearly a hindrance to his plan. What better and safer way than to make it stupid enough?

 “My master, let's start.”

There's no reason to think about it anymore.

He went straight into the main topic.

That is a problem, guaranteeing a quick check.

“Already? Alright. What should I do?”

“My lord, you just need to stay calm. However, you may feel a slight nausea or headache. Please note that it does not mean trouble, so please hold.”

 “It sounds like nothing. Start.”

Ian pointed to his staff.

He even felt butterflies in his stomach.

It was an opportunity to discover the truth, a truth he did not know in his past life.

 ‘Great Cancellation.’

Finally, a clear gray light wrapped around the crown prince. If the crown prince were really under the spell of black magic, he would definitely spew out dark energy like all the other survivors.

 “Wuuuk....!”.

The crown prince is getting sick. Was it a precursor to spewing out dark energy? Or is it just a side effect of the cancellation spell, which causes nausea and headaches?

Ian's eyes were shining brightly.

 ‘Vastage.’

Vomit!

Dark energy!

Vomiting black magic energy!

Ian muttered in his heart.

It was as if he was casting a spell.

“Auuugh, you're right. Feel headache and nausea.”

However, Ian's high anticipation ended with it, only becoming a delusion. As if he had skipped breakfast, the crown prince just kept swallowing back his stomach acid, but there was not even a small hint of black magic.

“Puh! Ptoey! Ah, it's over? Anything else?”

After washing his mouth with water from the prepared container, the crown prince looked at Ian. Even though she was fed up with nausea, she looked so innocent and as she got older, it seemed that the only thing ripe was her appearance.

 ‘…..Was he born, stupid.’

Thas right. Unless black magic is stronger than the spell ‘great cancellation’, it is certain that the crown prince was ‘born as doll’. Instead of the brains of emperors and queens, it seemed that he had only inherited their physical attributes, even inheriting human characters.

‘What I expected ....’

Although he was full of anticipation for a while, Ian now felt stupid. He even thought tired from the relentless investigation. That must be true. Otherwise, how could he be this delusion.

“Yes, no problem, My lord.”

Ian replied, strengthening his belief.

Should he not finish the job he started?

“I'm relieved. I mean, it should be clear. I shouldn't have time to be ridiculed by black magic? I have two pillars, Oliver, the swordsman and you, who will soon become the ruler of the Ivory Tower tower. Ha ha!”

The crown prince, Hayden, made a blank comment.

Then he stood up while patting Ian on the shoulder.

“Continue then. We'll see again later.”

He immediately left the room. In normal moments, he would continue speaking, but it seemed like he had some sensitivity. He even saw fatigue in Ian's continence and that he still had work to do.

‘Well, it's more fitting, I guess.’

Ian thought after observing Hayden. He must have changed. Even though the change was happening slowly at the speed of a turtle, the crown prince was definitely increasing and was even trying to improve himself.

‘However, sudden changes will be a strange thing.’

For example, imagine the crown prince changing like Ragnar. Wouldn't that be a bigger problem? The situation is much better now. It's really much better.

Knock it! Knock it!

As Ian finished his thoughts about the crown prince, another knock came at the door. There are still many members of the royal family that need to be investigated. There's still a long way to go.

“Please enter.”

The next member of the royal family who came after the crown prince was a familiar face to Ian. It was none other than the sister of the crown prince, the princess, ‘Hailey Greenriver’, known for her beauty.

“It's been a while, sir. Ian.”

It was the princess, Hailey, who was already known for her beauty in her past life. It had been a long time since he had last met her, face-to-face. As the crown prince's physical appearance matured, so did the appearance of Hailey, who had turned twenty this year.

 ‘These brothers are like ....’

 ‘These brothers are like ....’

It was not enough for the crown prince and princess to inherit such an incredible physique, but they even fixed it. Their beauty matches that of the Fairy Queen who turns into a woman. However, the atmosphere was the only difference. If the Fairy Queen represents physical beauty and flirting, Hailey's daughter represents innocence itself.

“Your Majesty, my daughter. How are you?”

“It's all because of your concern that I'm fine.”

The words of the princess were not empty at all. From pretending not to see her as a witch to leading her brother, the crown prince, down the right path, and saving countless people from the terrifying black magic of the tower lord… As an individual and as the daughter of a sovereign state, she was widely viewed as a good person.

 “I'm happy. Please sit.”

Smiling, Ian carried her to the chair.

Ian knew that just by looking into his eyes, he seemed to want to talk about something.

Investigation is just a means to conversation.

Was it because his mind was read by Ian?

Princess Hailey's cheeks flushed.

 “Diam.”

It was a ‘diam’ spell that cut out all the noise from around and even prevented any sound from coming out. Princess Hailey had placed a grade-2 spell on her own.

“Have you reached class 2, my daughter?”

 “Yah, actually ...”

He opened his hands timidly.

He counted a total of 3 open fingers.

Not two, but three.

 “Class 3?”

“Yeah, my teacher said so ...”

She was referring to ‘Kevin’, who is a 1st class witch of the palace and her teacher. Although she was 1st class, she was learned and as a formal magician, she could see the Ivory Tower's information. In other words, he had a clear view and understanding of how classes were categorized.

“Congratulations. I didn't expect it to be that far.”

Ian's honest. Class 3 implies a rather high level, even among magicians. Also, didn't the princess learn in secret and start training late? However, all of a sudden, she was a 3rd class magician?

‘Maybe, she has a well-endowed talent?’

Ian's original assessment that he wouldn't even reach beyond 1st grade was certainly far off. No, perhaps, he could surpass that, although there would be a limit to it.

“I can't believe that you came to tout about you reaching Grade 3. What do you want to discuss?”

Ian asked while locking both of his hands.

 “…..Start now.”

After hesitating for a while, he slowly began to speak.

“From now on, what, what and how should I do..?”.
