SAVANTS
The Chapture 11

"No, that's fair."

Tina patted my arm comforting. "I won't worry. He'll never see you in a million years."

After that conversation, I noticed the command-like passageways in enemy territory so I could take cover if I saw Zed coming. At least I now have a group of friends to hide if he decides to retaliate with some ridicule.

First up is Obi Tina, of course, but Zoe, who would fit the slightly villainous role of Catwoman with her sense of humor, along with Nelson, would be, The real Elasto-man is also now part of my gang. They defended me against the Vampire Brides, Sheena and her gang, who kept bothering me, partly because they felt I was vulnerable.

The news must have been circulating around the car park, with people coming to the understandable conclusion that I was going through a frenzy. Tina, Zoe, and Nelson are the only ones standing between me and suburban life with freaks. I can imagine them in my head, three defenders, hands folded, standing as a shield between me and all the dangers.

I really need to stop and focus more. This daydream strikes every part of my life.

On the last Friday in September, I received unpleasant news from Tina on the way to school in her car.

"We all have to show up to play football, boys and girls?"

"Yes, it's an annual tradition before the first snow falls so that means the first Monday in October. It was supposed to build team spirit or something." Tina blew the bubble with her gum and let it erupt. "Besides showing pent-up talent to the coach. I personally think Mr. Joe is behind it You should realize now he is the power behind the throne in school. He liked the opportunity to pretend to be a coach."

He didn't seem to be too bothered by that prospect, unlike me.

"It's worse than dental surgery." I hugged my arm.

"Why? I thought you Englishmen liked football. We all expect great things from you."

"I'm terrible at sports."

Tina laughs. "It's a shame."

After pleading with my father for him to explain the offside rule, I realized that I was heading for another disaster. But there's no way out. The group throughout the year were all a hundred people-asked to report to the coach on the bench on Monday. The computer has chosen a random collection of names to form a team.

Mr. Joe, in a misguided attempt to make the English girl feel at home in her national sport, named me captain of team B, which means we were the first to play against A. And guess who their captain is?

"Okay, Zed, you won the lottery." Mr. Joe slipped the coin and blew his whistle. He really got into the spirit of the game, even having one of those little notebooks in his upper pocket. "It's fifteen minutes one way. Good luck!" He patted me on the shoulder as it passed. "Now is your chance to shine, Sky. Make England proud!"

I'm sure this place will appear in my nightmares from now on, the row of people watching from the bench and I don't know what to do. It was like a dream where you went naked.

Big humiliation.

"Okay, captain." Nelson smiled at me. "Where do you want us to position it?"

The only positions I know well are centre-forward and goalkeeper. I put Nelson in front and myself in goal.

"You sure?" ask Sheena. "Aren't you, like, a little short for a goalkeeper?"

"No, it's okay. I'm better here." Out of danger, I mean. "You all ... um.. share other positions, do your best."

After kick off, I found out that I had miscalculated. I forget that when an opponent is captained by a player who makes your defence chopped meat half of them have a shaky understanding of the game like me - then the goalkeeper suddenly has a very busy time.

We were 5-0 down after ten minutes. My team started making rebellious noises. If the striker in Zed's team leaves me alone for a moment, I'll dig a hole in the goal and hide in it.

In the first half we were nine goals behind. I would have let in ten, but Nelson has achieved a miracle and scored one goal. My team gathers around me, "excitement, we play with tactics.

"Tactics?" tease Sheena.

Invite meteors to fall on the field, obliterating my goal? Died of the plague? Stop it, Sky: this doesn't help, you have to focus.

"Um .. very good, Nelson, good goal. Let's do more"

"That's it? Your tactics! More goals, please? " Sheena checked her nails. "Sheesh, look, I broke one. Do you think they'll let me rest because of the injury?"

"I don't play football at home. I don't want to be captain. Sorry." I shrugged my pathetic shoulders.

"It's a shame" muttered Neil, who up until then had always been kind to me. "Sir Joe promised you'd be great."

I started to feel so anxious to cry. "Then he was wrong, wasn't he? Expecting me to be good at football is like expecting all the Welsh to be able to sing" My team seemed empty. Okay, so they've never heard of Wales. "Stop letting them pass you with the ball and then I don't have to catch so many balls!"

"Catch?" Sheena screamed with ridicule. " You haven't even caught a single ball. And if you do, I'll eat my shoes."

Whistle blown for the second half. I walked onto the field to my destination, only to be stopped by Zed. "What now?" i snap. "You're gonna mock me again that I'm trash? No need, my team has done it."

He looked over my head. "No, Sky, I will tell you that you will lose today" Ejek Zed.

Sheesh, I'm gonna cry now. I rubbed my wrists over my eyes and spun in place to go to the other end of the field. I have to face the challenge of the mocking faces of Zed's team.

I blinked. Zed's team was all surrounded by a pleasant raspberry pink aura. While my team has a charcoal-gray aura that penetrates in red. Did I really see this - or imagine it? Stop Sky! Stop looking at that color.

Sometimes I'm like crazy.

Massacre, pardon, the game goes on shamefully, even the audience. I didn't catch anything. Then Sheena dropped Zed in the box and I faced a penalty. The mockery and laughter from the stands gets louder as all realize that a classic high school moment is unfolding, Zed, the best player of the year, faces an alien player who challenges his talents.

No, I can't, but there Tian speaks as a true friend.

I stood in the middle of the goal and faced Zed. I wonder, he's not arrogant, if anything, he looks a little sorry to me so pathetic to me?. He placed the ball carefully in place and looked at me.

'Stop to left'

His voice was in my head again. I rubbed my eyes, trying to clear my brain.

Zed held my sight. 'Stop to left'

What the fuck, I'm so embarrassed now that I'm hallucinating. I had no hope of stopping the ball, so I could at least flamboyantly, if not necessarily, jump. Maybe I'll drop myself-let's think about the bright side.

Zed ran, kicked, and I stretched myself sideways to the left.

oohs! The ball hit me right in the stomach. I curled up in pain.

Incredible cheers up - even from teammate Zed.

"I can't believe he caught it!" yelled Tina, doing a celebratory dance with Zoe on the bleachers.

A hand appeared before my eyes.

"You're okay?"

Zed.

"I caught him!."

"Yes, we saw Sky." He smiled and pulled me up.

I'm stunned.

"Are you helping me?"

"why should I do that?" He turned his back, returning to the rough Zed like we first met.

'Thank you very much, O mighty one.'

Encouraged by the aggravation, I acted on instinct and sent out the thought in the same way as I heard his voice.

It was as if I had hit a piece of wood on his head. Zed spun, staggered, and looked at me, I don't know if he was horrified or amazed. I froze, stunned for a moment, as if I had just hit a living electric fence. I held back the scream of emotion that penetrated me. He didn't hear what I said, did he? It's just .. impossible.

Mr. Joe ran around a little between us, blowing his little whistle. "Good, Sky. I know you have talent in you. Just one more minute - get a goal and get back to playing."

We're still losing. 25-1.

In the girls' locker room, I was playing around with my shoelaces while thinking, not really having the urge to shower with a lot of people around. Some girls came to say something about my appearance on the pitch, most finding the coincidence I caught Zed Benedict's kick causing great excitement.

That one act seemed to erase my tragic performance on goal. Sheena's friends make fun of her that she has to eat baked sneakers for dinner.

Tina pounced on me from behind and gently hit my back. "You're mocking Zed, Sky! He'll never let you save that kick again"

"Maybe."

But what does all that mean in my head? I really feel as if he's talking to me telepathically, don't you think? I don't believe in those weird things. Like color. I-what's the word my psychiatrist used-projecting. Yeah, projecting it yourself.

"So, do you think they'll pick me for the team?" candaku, trying to keep Tina from seeing my interference.

"Yes, you're sure - when Hell freezes. But maybe an athletic trainer will come knocking. You move like lightning when you want. I've never seen anyone run off the field so fast." He stuffed his sports gear into his gym bag. "Something happened between you and Zed that I should know about? More of a hate thing at first sight?"

"No." My word.

"He didn't seem upset that you caught the penalty ball. He's been staring at you all the other games"

"really? I didn't realize it" I lied, but I knew he kept looking at me.

"Maybe he likes you now."

"It's impossible"

"That could happen"

"I don't knowI never know."

"That clarifies. You've got a lot of childish behavior to follow." He pushed me into the bathroom. "Quickly. I want to go home before night"
