SAVANTS

SAVANTS
The Chapture 44

I came down from the room to the living room wearing clothes that were too big for me even his clothes to the point of sticking out down covered the short jeans I was wearing and the sleeves of the rolled up shirt, he said, a pair of Zed wool socks on my feet, not sandals.

I was getting used to seeing my parents looking at me with a surprised and worried expression, an expression where I knew I would let them down, but they were too afraid to tell me for fear that I would come back like before they adopted me.

''Hi, honey, ready to go home?'' simon asked, with a touch of impatience, while playing the car keys in the palm of his hand.

Zed appeared behind me, giving me a slow push to get closer to my parents.

"I want to stay a while. I think they can help me.'' I grabbed Zed's hand on my back.

Sally touched the base of her throat. ''For how long?''

I shrugged my shoulders. I hate hurting them. "Until I know if this will work."

Zed's mother closed her eyes for a moment, feeling the future. He smiled as he looked at me. ''To be honest I think we can help Sky, Sally. Please trust us. We just want to help him. You can call him in a few minutes if you're worried about Sky."

"Darling, are you sure?'' ask Simon.

"I'm sure, '' answered me.

Sally had not reconciled herself with this farewell. ''But, honey, what can they do for you when we can't?"

"I don't know. But I think this is true.''

He hugged me tightly. ''Okay, we'll try it. You have a girlfriend who will take care of you and her family." Staring at Zed and his mother behind me.

"Yes I have." I answered while looking at Zed who was smiling towards my mother.

Selly nodded. ''I can see that. If it doesn't work, don't worry. We're just gonna try something else and keep going until we make it."

''Thank you.''

My parents reluctantly returned home leaving me with nine Benedict in their kitchen.

''I like your parents, '' said Zed in a low voice, embracing my waist. ''They keep fighting for you."

''Yes. I'm lucky to have them'' I still have to see Uriel, she's a slightly thin, brown-skinned figure standing next to Will, both of whom are looking at me as if saying 'Soul mate Zed.'

Uriel is the person I fear the most, the one who can read the past.

Zed's mother clapped her hands. ''All right, my little kids''

A kid? He is the smallest of the Benedict family.

''Hope! Trace and Uriel part plate. Xav knife and fork. Yves and Victor you guys made pancakes. Will made maple syrup.''

''What about Zed?'' gerutu Yves, took out the mixing bowl.

Karla smiled at us. ''She was busy, comforting her girl, and was where she should be. Sit down, you two.''

Zed pulled me into his lap at the corner of the breakfast table and I sat comfortably to enjoy the show of the Zed brothers.

The most dangerous boys in Wrickenridge are completely different at home. Although Trace and Victor were grown men, they did not dare to go against their mother's words and do other common tasks.

Not having to hide their strength in front of me, I was soon used to seeing the Benedicts calling out the things they needed, floating objects in the air.

That's very interesting. I realized I could see something as it floated. A kind of white light, very thin, like a thread.

I have to concentrate or I won't see it. I wondered if I could do the same. I watched Trace lift (imagine) an egg from the box and then, I imagined tying it to my own strength.

I was very surprised, the egg strayed from his control (Trace) and slid towards me and Zed. Zed made me duck in time.

''Who did that?'' cry out to Zed's mother in anger. ''Xav? I'm not gonna have you throw an egg at my future daughter-in-law!"

Xav looked most offended. ''That's not me. Why do you always think it's my fault?''

''Since you usually are, Will said flatly, nudging Xav from behind, causing Xav to drop his cutlery on the table.

''Who did it?'' repeat Mother Zed, determined to get answers.

''Who?'' repeat Ms. Zes once again, revealing that height is not necessary to look scary.

''Um.anu.

Zed's mouth is gaping. I found out that the wonder was silver-colored.

"I saw you guys floating things-and wondered if I could do it too. I like tying that egg.''

Will laughed out loud, he made the eating utensils dance in his place like waving his hands. They bowed to me before arranging themselves neatly on the table.

Zed's father sat on his stool. ''You see? What means?''

I can feel my cheeks turning pink. I wish I could find a button to turn off my tendency to blush.

''Um yeah, when things move, it's like a white line. I think I feel an energy, an aura or something.''

''He can also see emotions, Dad, '' added Zed. "He can tell if we're lying."

''Very useful.'' Victor looked at me with calculations that I wasn't sure I liked. He has very low emotions compared to the others, or maybe he is just better at making shields/protectors.

I take my eyes off her. ''When Xav heals me will come out a blue aura/energy. When Benedict's mother looked to the future, she kind of faded away. I'm not sure about the rest, but I think each color has its own meaning.''

'What about telepathy?' ask Zed's father to arrive.

I flinched, still disliking the feeling that there was someone else in my head. "I can't see that - at least, I don't know what to call it."

''It takes the lowest energy of all power when done close to the person you are communicating with. The signs may be too subtle to understand.'' said Zed's father.

I rubbed my temple, remembering the pain of talking to Zed from a great distance. Where was when I did that? A shed?

Zed pulled me deeper into his arms. ''Don't think about it now, Sky. I know it hurt you.''

''Why can't I remember it?''

"That's what we're going to find out," Zed's father smiled. "But after breakfast."

''What about the school?'' I knew Zed and Yves should have left.

"Benedict's family, we can skip class." Yves grinned, putting the first pancake (cake) in front of me. His image of a smart man collapsed somewhat when I saw how happy he would be if not for school.

''Like that day, in September?'' I looked at Zed.

"When you missed Friday." Ask me.

''Oh that. Yep. We're helping Trace hunt down the men who shot the family in a drug deal.''

I remember now how tired he was on that Saturday when I met him in the hillside ghost town.

''And this Benedict family-you can see what will happen?'' Xav said.

"Yes, but we get results, said Trace, sitting on his own plate. ''We managed to catch the clothes..-'' he glanced at the frowning forehead of his mother, the criminal. He will be tried early next year.

''You don't have to worry about us, Sky, '' Zed added, knowing my thoughts even though he has no talent for reading emotions. "That's what we do."

"Family business," Xav agreed, while pouring maple syrup over his pancakes. ''The Savant Net works as it should.''

''And we are proud of that, ''' Victor concluded, tapping on the empty space in front of him. ''Where is mine?''

The plate containing the freshly cooked pancakes floated in the air towards Victor. Zed put his hand over my eyes. "No laso¹"

Note: The **** strap is a type of long rope with a particular node called the *** node, which is generally used to catch or snare livestock coming out of the herd.

I laugh. "I promise - no more experiments with food."

And we all had breakfast with laughter.... And yes, Yves was very good at telling embarrassing stories about Zed when he was a kid. And it makes Zed's cheeks flushed red in embarrassment to know his soul mate knew of his ridiculous behavior as a child.
