chapter. 46
“I didn't want to meet him on purpose, Frans. I still remember what happened a year ago, when he left without any news, and now he just comes back like he has no guilt at all. It makes me even more hurt.” Siska. It was fortunate that the daytime bakery was quiet, so they could chat a lot this afternoon.
“Gumalang's condition a year ago was very bad, Sis. He really can't meet you, because he's in a closed-door cage. He was imprisoned for a year in that room.” Frans bowed sadly.
“Omong empty what is this, Frans. Not that Gumalang has remarried to the woman who claimed to be pregnant with him?” Sarah still doesn't believe Frans' words.
Frans just shook his head. “You can talk like that from where, Sis. Gumalang is not that easy to marry another woman. He did not forget his first love. The proof, until now he is still trying to make you forgive him. He still wants to improve the relationship with you, he wants to restart a new relationship with you, Sis.”
Siska lowered her gaze. “Then, where is he now. He's not in front of my shop today like he used to.”
“Gummer hurts today, Sis. He's in my house now. You can visit them after you close the shop. Even if you are willing to meet him, if you are not willing to be okay.maybe Gumalang will return to his house tomorrow.”
Siska looked up at Frans. “I will close shop soon. Just wait for me in the car, I'll clean up the equipment for a while.”
“Alright, I'll wait for you in the car. Coincidentally I also brought Rara and also the Cia.” Frans smiled broadly at the sight Siska could already be persuaded. Then he turned around from the bakery.
Siska just smiled and began to tidy up the tools she had used earlier to make bread, she also tidied the cashier table and brought a little bread for Gumalang.
“Hai, bestie.” Shouted Rara from inside the car.
Siska who was focusing on locking the shop door immediately turned to Rara, then she waved her hand.
“How are you? We haven't told each other in a long time.” Siska said as she entered Frans' car.
“I'm fine. I'm currently busy taking care of Cia, and Frans is also busy working.” They both hugged each other.
“Hai, Cia. You are beautiful, similar to Mami.” Siska pinches slowly on Cia's cheek.
“Thanks for the compliment Aunty is beautiful.” Rara represented Cia who could not speak.
After a long journey, they reached Frans' house. Car parked on the front porch.
“Come in, Sis. Your husband is waiting for you inside.” Tempta Rara while holding Cia.
Siska was a little awkward and her heart was beating fast. He walked behind Frans and Rara.
“Lang, have you been better?” Frans asked as he entered the house and saw Gumalang was in the kitchen fetching drinking water.
Gumalang. “Lumayan, France. Thank you for your kindness, I will repay you at a later time.”
“No need to hesitate like that, Lang. We've been best friends for a long time, so it's only natural that I help you.” Frans approached Gumalang who was still standing in the kitchen.
“I have a surprise for you, Lang.” Frans whisper in the ears of Gumalang.
Gumalang quickly turned his head and looked at his best friend.
“That's the surprise.” Frans pointed to the woman behind his wife.
Gumalang followed Frans' directions, he was surprised and immediately smiled as he saw Siska there. “That's a surprise for me?” Gumalang walked quickly closer to Siska.
“Finally you came to see me.” Gumalang immediately hugged Siska tightly. He did not want to let go of the woman he loved so much.
“I and Cia go upstairs first, yeah. You guys just enjoy the time together, just think of this house like your own home.” Rara said goodbye and walked up the stairs.
“Thanks, Ra.” Siska answered. Rara just smiled looking at her two best friends who had met each other again, after a long time apart.
Siska pushed a bit of Gumalang's body and placed the back of her hand on her forehead. “You're still hot, Lang. Have you taken any medication?”
“You're the medicine I need, Sis. Thanks for seeing me again.” Gumalang kissed Siska's forehead.
Siska slightly blushed hearing Gumalang's words. “Same-sama, Lang. Here's a little bread for you. Eat first, later we obrolin again our problem.” Siska gave Gumalang a plastic bag and invited him to sit on the sofa.
“Alright, but you have to bribe me. I miss everything you've ever done for me.” Gumalang opened the bread pack and handed it to Siska.
“Your most delicious homemade bread.” The grumblebee nodded and smiled.
“Have you heard the story from Frans?” Gumalang said with his mouth still busy chewing bread.
Hemm.. Siska nodded.
“Then, do you still think badly of me?” Gumalang stared fixedly at the woman in front of him.
Siska put the rest of the bread on the table. “I was still thinking badly about you. But, when I saw your current state, those bad thoughts instantly disappeared from my brain.” Siska smiled.
“Really? Thank you for trusting me back.” Gumalang hugged Siska, and Siska returned his embrace.
After Siska forgave Gumalang, they lived together in the house Siska currently occupied.
A year later, they were gifted a very handsome boy, similar to Gumalang. The boy was named Gavin Gumalang.
After Siska gave birth to a son, their lives began to be happy. All their wishes are fulfilled one by one.
However, for some reason lately Gumalang often come out of the house early in the morning and only returned at night.
And the happiness they had before was gone, now feels empty. There is no morning smile that makes the spirit to stay afloat.
Happiness cannot last long. When Gavin was five years old, Gumalang decided to go back to school abroad and leave his small family behind. He was willing to go to achieve his goal to be able to open his own company engaged in the export of goods imports.
Apparently, all this time Gumalang studied outside the house, because he wanted to add knowledge. He could not study at home, often Gavin cried and made his concentration scatter.
“Are you going to leave us now, Lang? Gavin still desperately needs a father figure to be his role model when he grows up.” Siska begged Gumalang not to leave her family.
“I still have to go, Sis. It is also for the future of our family. I can't be like this, just relying on your bakery.” Gumalang replied confidently leaving his family behind.
“I'm sure you can definitely babysit our kids alone.” Gumalang clasped Siska's hand kissing her forehead. Then he picked up a suitcase and left Siska and Gavin at home.
"But I can't live without you, Lang. Can't you continue your school here? There are also many good universities in our country. Why should I go to school abroad? You want to leave our family for the second time, Lang? Actually, how important I am to you." Siska pulls Gumalang's hand.
"I can't go to school here, Sis. Please understand me, I will not betray you. I'll come back with success." Gumalang brushed off Siska's hand and pulled her suitcase out of the house.
Siska was sitting limp on the bed, she could no longer prevent her husband's departure. Siska could only stare at the back of her husband who was getting further and further away from her gaze. Her tears were pouring down her cheeks. Once again Gumalang left him and also his son.
Fifteen years have passed. Gavin is now a grown man. And during that time also his papa never come home to see him and his mama.
When Gavin was busy working, he got a call that his mother was rushed to the hospital because she was suddenly unconscious. And that's when she found out that her mom had end-stage brain cancer. It was because of the effect he was often exhausted of making a living for Gavin.
Gumalang heard the news that his wife was seriously ill, he immediately rushed to fly to the homeland.
When he arrived at the hospital, Siska was dead. He could not keep his promise to meet his wife. Regret began to permeate his soul.
"I'm sorry, Siska. I cannot keep my promise to you. I'm late to see you." Gumalang cried until sobbing because he deeply regretted his actions.
Siska was already calm in nature there, and no need to bother anymore to take care of everything by himself.
Flashback off
Gumalang was very sorry for his previous actions. His mistakes in the past still tormented his mind greatly. He does not want to be wrong with the decision taken now.
After three days Gavin left, he finally returned to the Gumalang house.
“Good, if you can keep your promise, Vin.” Her Papa from the stairs.
“I don't want to be like Papi, who always breaks promises.” He answered while walking towards the kitchen.
After that they never rebuked again, until the day of the engagement of Gavin and the woman he was betrothed to.
