District 10, that afternoon.
"Thank you for your help. I won't be long" said Roves, patting his best friend who used to be a team when he became a level E robot User.
The man who always allowed Otka into the District just nodded slowly. He waited in the distance and let Roves and his son—Yaz—near Vemo's house.
GECK! GECK!
"Vermendis Vemo's? You have to let me in. I'm Otka Oskova's father."
THE CZECH!
Yaz immediately took cover behind his father's body, when he saw the sinister figure of the man in front of him who had a barcode line on his face. Roves was tense, but tried to calm down.
"There's something we need to talk about. This is important, and your cooperation, will determine the fate of Otka and Sandra later" he whispered as he gave a glance like giving a code.
Vemo sees many E-level robot cops behind the man who claims Otka's father is 10 meters away. Vemo opened the door wider and let two of his guests in.
Roves nodded slowly as he stepped into Vemo's residence. The tattooed man looked at Yaz sharply, and the teenager looked so frightened. He held his father's arm tightly not far from him.
"What does Otka, Sandra, and I have to do?" ask Vemo directly to the destination of Roves' arrival.
"Good and bad news. Sandra managed to become a User even though it has not been determined to operate a robot at what level, but .. she passed." A faint smile rose on Vemo's face. Yaz peeked behind the father's body and went back into hiding. "Then .. My son Otka. He'll be working at Sandra's friend's restaurant, Eliz."
"You seem to be rambling, Old Man. My question is, what does this have to do with me?" ask Vemo to clarify the question.
"I know you're happy with the news I'm telling you. The problem is ... change the barcode. Somehow, but it could get the two women I love expelled from the Great Ruler. And you, can get the death penalty for illegal practices."
"What?! Why am I being dragged?" asked Vemo glared sharply and now approached towards Roves.
The old man remained calm standing before an angry looking Vemo. Roves glanced towards the door, and Vemo regained his composure.
"Don't be noisy, they can hear, and it's dangerous for us" Roves said, and Vemo nodded slowly.
Roves gave me an earphone. Vemo immediately put it in one ear.
Vemo moved away and chose to sit in his favorite chair made of wood-lined pads from pieces of cloth that he plumped in a sarong as a base.
His forehead wrinkled when he heard the recording of the device attached to his ear.
Vemo took off the earphones and clasped the thing in his right hand. Languinary.
Roves took Yaz to approach the man who looked gloomy not to show his fierce side again.
"You have a secret, Vemo. I know," said Roves softly staring at Vemo. Vemo looked over and smiled faintly.
"Your instincts are sharp, Old Man. Be sitting. I told you a boring story. Maybe it's God's destiny. My mother always said that to me. If there's something you never expected, God must have planned it, and he asked me to believe it" she replied.
"Tell me" Pinta Roves pulled up a wooden bench and sat there.
Yaz sat next to his father, and still looked afraid of Vemo's sinister figure.
"Obviously a year ago, I don't remember exactly when. Otka, not your son, but Otka my real friend, and apparently Sandra, is the reason I want to get into the Great Ruler."
"Sorry, I don't understand. Could it be more detailed?" yaz suddenly became interested. Vemo glanced at him. Yaz was silent for a moment.
"Don't ask him, Yaz. You forgot my message" Roves said, glancing at his son.
"Sorry" he replied.
"The reason I no longer come to the border of the wall is .. My parents are sick. I work in District 10 to support my family who live in this house. But apparently, my efforts were in vain. My parents were still dead before I even managed to bring them into the Great Ruler. I .. disappointed them," said Vemo in a trembling voice, though he did not cry.
Yaz and Roves quietly listened. Both of them seemed to be able to understand the sadness felt by the man piercing in front of them.
"Then .. I remembered Otka, my childhood friend. I remember that promise. After the deaths of my parents, I always went back to the wall, but never met him. Maybe ... Now you know, the reason why I'm so eager to get into the Great Ruler."
"Yes. You want to meet Otka, your little friend, now Sandra Salvarian," Roves said, and Vemo took a downcast look.
"Every day, I look at the door of 'Hope'. Bad prayer. I was hoping to see Otka walk out that door. I hope he gets expelled from Great Ruler so he can stay with me. However, all the years I waited, he never came out of that door, until he came to me, through Otka, your son," said Vemo at last turned his head, and stared fixedly at Roves.
"Do you think my brother Otka is Otka your childhood friend?" tanya Yaz guessed.
"Hey!" peekkik Roves and Yaz together for not accepting their family members insulted.
"That's reality. I just realized when Otka used to visit. She ... not my Otka. If he was my Otka, he would have remembered the memories of our childhood, "he replied lethargicly.
"As your mother said, fate brings your Otka into existence by itself" Yaz said. Vemo smile.
"Unfortunately, she doesn't remember either, but I'm sure that's my Sandra Otka. Then, as he said his wish of exchanging lives with your brother Otka, my heart was elated. I wish my Otka hadn't graduated and she ended up staying with me. He's a kara like me. We were destined to live together later. However, you guys brought disappointing news for me instead" he replied resentfully.
Roves and Yaz glanced at each other. The boy's father was like a single thought.
"Hey. If your Otka graduates and becomes a User, he can come here at any time. You can meet him every day. Don't sad. Besides, aren't you happy, with the scenario made by Ego Commander when he mentioned Otka as your wife?" yaz asked fishing, and Roves immediately nudged his son's arm strongly.
"Aw! What's the matter, Dad?" pekik Yaz whimpered while holding his aching arm.
"Yes, you're right. Otka's my wife, and I'll tell everyone about it. Don't worry, I want to work together" Vemo replied with a smile. Yaz and Roves breathed a sigh of relief.
GECK! GECK! GECK!
Instantly, the three men were aghast and immediately stood up. Three police E-level robot users break into Vemo's residence with a special rifle in hand.
"Time's up" said friend Roves.
Roves nodded and said goodbye to Vemo. "Destroy the tape" he whispered, and Vemo nodded.
"Be careful on the road, Dad. And tell my wife if I wait for her to come here. I will make a magnificent palace to welcome him" said Vemo with a stretch of hands and a grin.
Roves simply smiled with a nod. Yaz grimaced and thought that Vemo had gone mad. The man over-indulged his deceptive role with a joyful heart. Roves exited District 10 with Yaz without a hitch.
After their departure, Vemo spread the story of the Ego scenario to all people living in District 10.
Of course, that horrendous story caused the District an uproar. In fact, the story quickly spread like a virus to nearby districts.
At once, the name Otka Oskova immediately became a conversation on the Great Ruler.
It was where Sandra was.
"Me, what?!" screeches with bulging eyes, and the Ego can only show a forced smile. "Oh, God. It's crazy" he said in frustration holding his head that suddenly throbbed in pain.
"For the good of us all. Don't forget, you were the first to make this furore, Sandra. We're trying to help you. So ... cooperate," Ego asserted.
Sandra was on her waist looking upset while walking to and fro showing the worry of her heart. Ego still stands firm to see Sandra who is depressed about her scenario.
"Oijah. Perhaps, you can accept your destiny a little bit from the additional information that I will pass on from Vemo's confession to Roves and Yaz."
"About what?" asked Sandra directly.
Ego gives an earphone to the beautiful blonde woman. Sandra accepted it and immediately put it on one of the ears.
He was still on his waist when he heard Vemo's testimony. Until instantly, his eyes were wide. He stared at the sharp Ego looking nervous.
"Truely said Vemo's mother. It's destiny. Is ... You're not happy when you find out that your childhood friend is still alive?"
Sandra closed her mouth. He did not expect if the memories that had crossed at that time were true.
The man who helped him exchange barcodes was the boy who always met him on the border wall.
Sandra shed tears. He looks happy, his smile is broken. Ego smiled as he approached and took back the earphones attached to Sandra's ears, but he quickly crushed them in his hand. Sandra's eyes widened.
"It's top-secret. Only me, you, Vemo, Yaz, Roves and God know. Others, no. Let it stay like this. The less you know, the better," he said as he headed to an iron box as a trash can near the door. The ego puts a piece of that tool in there.
Sandra saw if the tool grinded the object that went into it into smaller pieces. Ego smiled thinly and just came out of the room just like that did not say anything more.
"Vemos. She ... is fine. Thank goodness," said Sandra relieved with a smile expanded.
