14. Mass Insensitivity

When third-graders of Junior High were having fun celebrating their graduation, there was a sudden mass trance.

The trance afflicted not only two or three people but almost all third-graders. Ranvier included a small percentage of students who were spared from the trance.

Ranvier appeared to be sculpting on the spot as he saw the black shadow floating above the heads of the students. Not just one but there were several black shadows all of which had a sinister appearance.

As if hearing Ranvier's words, the leader of the black creature shook his head while grinning. Then the big black creature darted quickly towards Ranvier with a gaping mouth and claws expanded as if ready to tear Ranvier's body.

Ranvier's body was frozen. Both of his eyes were staring at him and could do nothing. He could only welcome the creature's arrival with resignation.

Something happened too. Just as the creature was about to touch Ranvier, suddenly the body of the creature bounced and crashed onto the floor just like it had just hit a wall. The black creature growled furiously and tried to get up from the floor. He looked at Ranvier with a question mark.

" Who are you...?" ask the black creature that Ranvier thinks resembles the leak.

Ranvier was just silent as he shifted away from his original place. But every time Ranvier changes places, the creature always follows. Ranvier was clucking bitterly because he was tired of having to move from one place to another.

" Don't follow me...!" ranvier said as he was away from the hall where his friends were possessed.

" I'll stop following if you want to be straightforward. Who are you really...? " ask the black creature curiously.

" I'm Ranvier..," said Ranvier Iirih as he turned to the right and to the left for fear of being mistaken for g*la by others who saw him talking to himself.

" Ranvier...?" repeat the black creature while observing Ranvier from head to toe.
