The virtue of Sayyidul istighfar is mentioned in the hadith of al-Bukhari from Syaddad bin Aus ra, Prophet Muhammad SAW said:
"Whoever says it (Sayyidul istighfar) in the daytime by believing it and he dies on that day before the afternoon, then he belongs to the inhabitants of heaven. And whoever says it at night by believing it and dies that night before morning, then he belongs to the inhabitants of heaven."
