At Least I’M Free

At Least I’M Free

Without lingering, Huga picked up a large envelope that turned out to contain other small white envelopes inside.

Each envelope has the same name and return address.

"Anggia Widyo's... State Elementary School 3?" Huga looked at all the envelopes that had been shipped from 8 years ago.

A hunch slowly crept in, making Huga reflex to reach into her pocket and call her junior.

"Hallo sir?" Ridwan's voice was full of questions welcomed.

"Go to the point. On the victim's workplace history list is the name of Elementary School 3 no?"

"Er 3 Primary School? Umm... I'm looking for the data first..."

Suga put his phone over the toilet tank. He tuned the phone to loud speaker mode so that Ridwan's voice could be heard when he returned. While waiting, Suga began to open one by one the envelopes in order from the oldest to the most recent. With shabby paper and fading ink, the letter wrote...

*"I asked you for help back then, but it seems like your soul has been polluted for a long time. Even if you don't return this letter, I'll still send it every year."*

A short message may be more suitable to describe its content. Suga read the next letter.

* "You can follow an existing path. No need to search for\-search anymore. Isn't that fun? May you wake up this year."*

Next.

"If you were the only one who got his punishment I probably wouldn't suffer like now, even the people involved could enjoy his short life. I hope you can be conscious this year."*

Huga began to see patterns from these letters. I don't know why it feels like the author wants to convey something implicitly. As if only the intended recipient could interpret it.

He continued reading 5 other letters.

"Life and its plot are completely unpredictable. I look forward to the things that will happen this year. Are you too? Hope you realize this year."

"This year is the time to let go of the past. But that doesn't seem to apply to the kid. At least you should apologize. Hope you're sober."

The more here the letter gets shorter. Even so the ending sentence is always the same. Suga continued back.

"Continue counting promises, it seems like there is still one that is missed. Do you remember it? I hope you realize it soon."

"I know you're living a quiet life now, with everything that's going on I hope you're okay until death picks you up."*

Last letter sent Thursday 2 weeks ago. Whether this was just a coincidence or not, but the victim also died 2 days ago, Thursday.

"Sir? Hello sir?" Ridwan's voice from across the line was heard.

"Yes. How's it?" Suga Saut.

"During his life the victim had only moved several times at work, and the 3rd State Elementary School was his place of work before the current school" explained Ridwan.

"He moved 8 years ago? Reason why?" Huga.

"Erm.. here is not explained..."

"She moved after a divorce or before?"

"E-uh? It has something to do with this, sir?" There was a doubtful tone in Ridwan's voice.

"Just answer me..."

Ridwan was silent for a while before replying, "If from the date.... Before."

"Okay, thank you."

Huga hung up the phone.

Although aware that the possibility of this is not related to the case that is being worked on, Huga still follows her instinct to find out. Because, the purpose of coming here is to be able to get to know the victim and find out who are people close to him.

Obviously Anggia Widyono is a female name. Huga thought, maybe this woman is the reason for the end of the household of the victim and his ex-wife 8 years ago. But the question is why does Anggia always send letters every know? And why was the contents of the letter written in implied sentences? What was hidden between the two?

"What is their relationship?"
