OFFERING CONCUBINES
EPISODE 15 OF JIU FEI'S LOVE STORY
The desolate Zhiesan Hill, the thin mist descending made the night scene even more faint. The light from the Sunyen Temple makes the building bright among the wisteria trees that stand strangely in darkness with drooping branches.
His Highness Yan Yue stopped his horse's run, just above the ramp that was higher than where the temple building stood, about two li away from Sunyen Temple. The horse that Xiao Yi was riding with their four bodyguards as if he had been given a cue also stopped.

Finally Jiu Fei decided to become a monk in Sunyen temple, a temple that is still within the city of Yubei and not far from the king's palace.
Unable to marry the person he loved so much, Jiu Fei chose to shave his head and devote his life to praying for His Highness Yan Yue and Yanzhi country until the end of his life.
This love story, broke His Highness Yan Yue's heart so much that he did not want to have an empress other than a Jiu Fei.
But the truth is a king must have a wife even if he does not want one. So that marriage took place on political grounds, to strengthen the support of each region for the sovereignty of the Yanzhi kingdom.
The nine leaders of the Region sent each of his daughters or nephews to be the sacrificial concubines for His Majesty Yan Yue, in the hope that both parties respect the marriage bond so that there is no territorial rebellion because the leader of the territory is the in-law of the king. Similarly, the Regional leaders felt the security of their position because they had a son-in-law of a king.
The king never performed an official marriage ritual appointing a furen or the chief wife who held the post of empress for him. During this time he had only married concubines with the status of being shiqie or intermediate concubines and tongfang or concubines who were inferior to shiqie.
Usually the old concubines would be raised to shiqie and the automatic new ones would be tongfang. The status of old concubines will be more respected than new concubines in the harem palace.
In the love life of His Highness Yan Yue with Jiu Fei, although the love and sacrifice that Jiu Fei made to His Majesty was very great but if he did not have the support of the palace council then the marriage could never be done.
