JUSTINIAN THE BEARER OF THE REVIVAL OF THE BYZANTINE EMPIRE

...<Year 527 AD>...

...<Born of a human being who has very high determination and ambition. He was a man capable of restoring the long-dead Roman Empire, fighting against Roman enemies for the sake of his ambitious achievement. He was awarded great figures who were willing to help realize his ambition, to open the World Conquest sheet, to revive the long-lost Roman Empire.>...

His reign was marked by an ambitious but only partially realized renovatio imperii, or "recovery of the Empire". He was named Justinian I, otherwise known to his people by the name of Justinian the Great, had a very great supporter for him in his reign. Among them were General Belisarius, General Narses, the White Witch Grace Elaina, Emperorina the Great Theodora, and other Generals.

Justinian I became Byzantine emperor shortly after the death of Justin I. On 1 April 527 Justinian I ascended the throne to become Byzantine emperor, ruling his reign very well as, a more reverberating aspect of his legacy was the rewriting of the uniform Roman law, Corpus Juris Civilis, the basis of civil law is also used by the Dantalian Kingdom. Soon he became emperor, 3 years old, the Persians tried to attack and take over the territory of the Byzantine Empire in the city of Dara.

During the 6th century, European countries realized the importance of cavalry. In 530, the Persians launched an attack on the Byzantine Empire. Outside the city of Dara, heavily armed cavalry from the Sassanian Army drew up their battle lines. Backgrounded by Kavadh I, the Byzantine Empire was at war with the Sassanids from 527, presumably because Kavadh I had tried to force the Iberians to become Zoroastrians. The Iberian king fled from Kavadh, but Kavadh tried to reconcile with the Byzantines, and attempted to have Justin I adopt his son Khosrau. Justin agreed, but on the condition that he would do so only in rites reserved for barbarians. This failed to satisfy Kavadh, who was attacking the Byzantine allies, so Justinian sent his generals Sittas and Belisarius to Persia, where they were initially defeated. In 529, the failed negotiations of Justinian's successor pushed a Sassanian expedition of 40,000 men towards Dara. The following year, General Belisarius was sent back to the region with General Hermogenes and the Graceful White Witch Elaina and 25,000 troops. Kavadh responded with another 10,000 troops under the command of Perozes, who set up camp about five kilometers away in Ammodius, around Dara.

The Persians, outnumbering the Romans by 15,000 men, mobilized about from the city of Dara and drew up their battle lines. Despite being outnumbered, General Belisarius decided to go to war. He ordered the digging of a number of trenches to block the Persian cavalry, leaving a gap between them to allow counterattacks, his tactics being the same as the tactics adopted from the Persians at the Battle of Thannuris two years earlier. It was pushed forward on both sides of its position, while the middle was rejected back. Here he placed his unreliable infantry behind the central trench, placed close enough to the fort walls to provide supporting fire from the city's fortifications. On the left and right flank were Byzantine cavalry, with sturdy qualities. Supporting them on their interior side were a small Hun unit with 300 Hun cavalry under Sunicas and Aigan supporting the left, and more Huns on the right under Simmas and Ascan command. General Belisarius also placed the Heruli cavalry unit under the command of Pharas in an ambush position from his left wing. The reserve consisting of his own Bucellarii cavalry was held behind its center and replaced led by Si John Armenia, his trusted lieutenant and childhood friend.

While Elaina was given 500 arrows placed in the city fortress, along with heavy arrow artillery to be fired into the battlefield to bring down the Sassanian cavalry. General Belisarius knew of his magic power, which could cause archers to drop many arrows into the battlefield from great distances, also signaling the Cavalry to break down enemy defenses.

The first wave of Persian attacks was directed at the Byzantine right wing, Elaina's arrow troops aided by her magic unleashed thousands of arrows, raining down on Persian cavalry but there were some Persian cavalry escapes that forced it across the moat, the Byzantine cavalry retreat. The magic ritual Elaina prepared was completed, launching a wave of fire forming thousands of arrows burning the entire Persian cavalry. To make General Belisarius amazed at the magic of Elaina, also gives the effect of fear to the Persians. However, the Persian cavalry under the command of Perozes were reluctant to lament it, unleashing a second wave of Persian attacks on the Byzantine left. Cross the moat and push back the Byzantine cavalry. But the intervention of Sunicas Hun who attacked from the interior of the Byzantine line with the help of heavy arrow artillery Elaina's forces pierced the enemy's defenses, as well as the attack of Herulian Pharas from the opposite side, forcing the Persian wing to retreat.

"I don't think they're tough enough either. Let go of the third wave!"

The cries of Perozes opened the third Persian wave, piercing towards the center of the army, then as in the middle they spread out halving the attacking right and left Byzantine flanks. Repelling their cavalry, which left the elite Byzantine infantry trapped in the trenches. Suddenly surprised General Belisarius for the Persian attack, but Elaina knew that the arrival of the attack made the magic she had prepared, releasing the air 'Waves of Water' into the approaching Persian cavalry, managed to sweep clean without any leftovers.

"Good job, Elaina!"

The general ordered the infantry to advance in unison with the turtle formation, advancing slowly slaughtering the enemies around them.

"Keep forward! Don't tremble! We'll win!" The cry of General Belisarius made the morale of the army rise drastically, beating the Persians to retreat to their camp.

They continuously retaliated against each other in the battlefield, eventually finding a stalemate for both sides. Elaina approached General Belisarius, giving a strategy.

"General! It's not good for us to continue the battle, I have a plan!"

"Hm? Is that your plan, Elaina?"

"Good General! I ask the General to bring the 5000 Infantry forward with the formation (Spear Edge), then the Hun cavalry sneak up from behind the Infantry General then ambush them, me and the arrow troops will pave the way for you, you guys, the Byzantine right-wing cavalry became the reserve and heart-breaker of the defense advancing at rapid speed, and lastly the left-wing cavalry as diversionary and auxiliary cavalry Huns! This tactic was once used by future people, from the German nation you call the Barbarians. It's really effective to do the efficiency of troop mobilization."

For a moment General Belisarius was silent to the plan of Elaina, but did not want to think much more.

"I accept your plan, Elaina. Good everyone! We do as in Elaina's plan! Quick form a formation! Hurry along!"

The Byzantine army marched in accordance with Elaina's plan, advancing slowly by unleashing a wave of Byzantine attacks against the Persians, leading to their encampment. Elaina conjures up two elements at once, the water and fire 'Max Level Water Wave' attacking the approaching Persian army (Spear End) and the 'Fire Arrow Fiery' darting down on their camp and supply site, burning makes the fire burn everywhere.

"Wow! It's amazing Elaina! Thank you!" The spirit of the army led by General Belisarius, made the ranks become solid and confident.

Perozes and his army were trapped, in front of the advancing Byzantine army, behind a retreat closed by the blazing flames and the unrelenting magic of Elaina raining down.

"It's my history...."

Then the Byzantine wave hit the Persians who slaughtered them mercilessly, making the Battle of Dara a victory for the Byzantine Empire and the triumphant cheers sounded relentless.

... <Year 533 AD>...

Three years after the Battle of Dara, which was won by the Byzantine Empire. Justinian I wanted North Africa back in the hands of Rome, calling General Belisarius and the Witch of Elaina to the Emperor.

"Congratulations to you both! Congratulations on your holiday in Dara!"

"Thank you, Your Majesty!" Elaina and Belisarius bowed, at the Emperor's words.

"Next! I want you two on a vacation to North Africa, what about you? It'll feel good if you two go on vacation, trust me. North Africa is a beautiful place and rich in coolness, I ask you both to take a vacation!"

"Okay, Your Majesty, we are both preparing to sail North Africa" They left the Emperor's throne, rushed back to the camp and made plans for their holiday in North Africa.

Justinian I attempted to recreate the former glory of Rome. After Gelimer seized the throne to become ruler of the Vandal Kingdom, Justinian I responded by declaring war on the Vandals. In 533 AD, General Belisarius and the Witch Elaina led an army to land in North Africa and march towards Carthage.

"Yes Elaina, restore the condition of the troops! We're going to attack the Vandals in 3 days"

When they got there, they built a camp to restore the spirit of their troops. General Belisarius brainwashed him to find a way to destroy the Vandals quickly.

"Elaina, where are we going to attack next? This barren desert area is a little difficult for me to coordinate the army"

"We will attack them around Carthage, we will call Ad Decimum a marker along the Mediterranean coast ten Roman miles south of Carthage. We strike early with a large Byzantine force from Grasse to Ad Decimum, the Vandals will send an army from the city of Carthage under the command of Ammatas, then Gibamund with 2,000 men and the main Vandals under Gelimer's command will make a siege from our rear at Ad Decimum. We will divide the army before entering Ad Decimum, I with Hun will destroy Gibamund and ignore Gelimer's forces. General Belisarius came in to attack Ad Decimum and defend it, opening the way for John to attack the Vandals so as to reach Carthage. With the destruction of Gibamund's forces, those Gelimer thought of taking the hill, me and Hun would retreat to regroup, while General Belisarius climbed the hill and disorganized Gelimer's forces, then Hun and I will break the heart of Vandal to help General Belisarius on the hill. They would have retreated to Numidia, because John had already reached Carthage first"

The careful planning made by Elaina astonished General Belisarius, planning thrown out one by one like looking at the future, showing the Byzantine victory.

"Good! Goody! What a wonderful Elaina !"

As planned, the battle began with two simultaneous battles between the Vandals and the Byzantines on a smaller pedestal.

One was between Elaina and the mercenaries Hun Byzantium and Vandal Gibamund. Elaina orders the 600 Hun cavalry to confront the Vandals, after seeing this the Vandals stop in their tracks, allowing the Huns to attack and disperse them. A sense of fear haunted Gibamund's army of entrapment, and was astonished to see the Huns' bravery which shocked him to see Elaina with the Byzantine army so far from the main road. Fear continues to haunt them, as the Huns have a reputation for being great warriors. The 600 Huns defeated the 2000 Vandals and killed Gibamund in battle, making a small victory under Elaina's command.

At the same time Ammatas makes a mistake that will take his life. Ammatas was scouting the battlefield with only a few men when he met a much stronger Byzantine vanguard under the command of the Armenian Si John, killed in the ensuing battle. The rest of Ammatas' army moved out of Carthage in a small group of 30 men, stretching thinly across the battlefield. When they met the Byzantines, they immediately fled.

Gelimer and his army set up camp on the hill around Ad Decimum, after they found Gibamund's body. The next day, on a clear morning, the Byzantines climbed the hill trying to attack the Gelimer encampment. A small flash of fighting ensued on the hill, won by Gelimer's forces. Then they went down the hill, to capture Ad Decimum, but a few hours later they saw the Byzantines marching in large units. Eliminating the Vandals, Gelimer's forces withdrew to Namidia and left Carthage.

After this battle was won by the Byzantine Empire, Carthage was left with relatively light defences and was captured by the Byzantines. The Battle of Ad Decimum ended in the victory of the Byzantine Empire, with few casualties, while the Vandals had to give up many casualties for their defeat. The Byzantines then began to rebuild the fortress of Carthage, and the fleet was also built on Lake Tunis, five miles south of Carthage. His Sea Fleet prepared to invade the Ostrogotic Kingdom, seizing Italian territory. But before they made the Rome Offensive, Elaina asked General Belisarius to attack the Vandals in the west.

"General! It is possible that the Vandals wanted to retake Carthage. I suggest we finish off the Vandals in Numidia. Hit them out of North Africa"

Belisarius agreed to this, because the defenses and naval fleet in Carthage were ready to be built.

After the great Byzantine victory at the Battle of Ad Decimum, the armies of Generals Belisarius and Elaina occupied Carthage. King Gelimer, who was west of Carthage, sought help from his brother and regrouped his army to retake Carthage.

"Elaina, actually I want to take Rome soon. Can you just attack the Vandals?"

"But General, are you sure? I was able to attack them with my troops"

"Of course Elaina, you deserve more control to end the Vandal Kingdom"

"Good General! Thanks, I'll strategize soon. I'm withdrawing!"

"Hopefully it works, Elaina!"

Elaina left Carthage the day after the meeting of Belisarius, beginning her campaign against the Vandals in December 533. The two armies met at Tricamarum, about 30 miles west of Carthage, and the Byzantine cavalry soon overran the Vandal lines, reshaping and attacking twice more. The Byzantine infantry then with high fighting spirit finished off the Vandal infantry, and the Byzantines profited. On the third assault of the Byzantine cavalry, Tzazon was killed in Gelimer's view. As happened in Ad Decimum, Gelimer was desperate. The Vandals began to retreat, and soon lost. Gelimer fled back to Numidia with the rest of his army, having lost 800 men. Elaina then marched on the city of Hippo Regius, which opened the gates for her.

Gelimer realized that his kingdom had been lost, and attempted to flee to Spain, where some of the Vandals still remained, who had not followed the main army when they crossed into North Africa years earlier. However, Elaina hears of this news, leading her forces to plan Gelimer's interception. He was forced to abandon his belongings and take refuge in the mountains of Tunis with the Berbers. The following year he was discovered by a Byzantine army led by Elaina. At first he refused to surrender, even after being promised by Elaina to be allowed to rule again. After a particularly bad winter, Gelimer finally succumbs to the Graceful White Witch, Elaina. The Vandal Kingdom came to an end, their provinces of Sardinia, Corsica, and the Balearic Islands were under Justinian's control. The Byzantine Empire was increasingly victorious, with the successful capture of North Africa and the elimination of the Vandal Kingdom.

There was turmoil within the Byzantine stronghold, between Elaine and Belisarius.

"Elaina! Congratulations on your success, for eliminating Vandal. Congratulations!"

"Thank you General, I'm grateful for your praise"

"Yes well... I ask you to come with me, attack Rome. This is the time to come, for us as pioneers of the restoration of the Roman Empire"

"I'm sorry, General! I don't agree to go, I want to take care of North Africa, the Middle East, and Constantinople. So I'm going to Jerusalem"

"H...!? W-why, Elaina!? We're one step back..."

"Yes General! But it was time, I went back and entered into the ruins in Jerusalem. Say goodbye to Justinian, General Belisarius!"

Then Elaina without her army, with her broomstick, left Carthage, decided to go to Jerusalem to search for the ruins. Belisarius, however, remained convinced to take Rome even without Elaina, and he also delivered Elaina's message to Emperor Justinian I.
