Plain Girl Hero of Darkness

Plain Girl Hero of Darkness
Battle of Nobis - (3)

First Army Marshal Cornelius and Sun Knight Marshal Graden clashed on Nobis Plain. The combined strength of the two sides numbered 80,000. For the Royal Army, this was the decisive place where the Fifth Army met their deaths. And for the Imperial Army, this was the place where they found a breakthrough and turned into an attack.

Expecting an intense battle, Brigadier General Neinhart was promoted to commander of the forces in the center, and deployed his units in an all-round formation. This gave him the discretion to help Major General Sadias on the left wing, and Major General Travis on the right wing. His rank was lower than that of any other general, but Cornelius was impressed by Neinhart's performance during the Battle of Iris, and appointed him commander of the central army. And his placement proved that Cornelius was right.

To oversee the entire battlefield, Cornelius and 1,000 men set up a small camp in the back. His guard is a group of elites led by 《Third Sword》 Orerian and 《Seven》 Sword Cattleya of 'Ten Royal Swords'. Even so, the defense was considered weak for Field marshals of the entire Royal Army.

However, no one raised any objections. Or rather, none of the officers dared to question that intimidating Cornelius.

As soon as Cornelius set foot on the battlefield, he returned to his once great self that was in keeping with the title, the Always Winning General. His eyes while issuing orders made the terrifying warrior beside him shudder.

On the other hand, the Sun Knight was deployed in an echelon formation. Each unit entered into their own Castle Tower Formation, and was ready to fight the enemy. Graden's goal is to use their powerful defenses to stop the enemy and pull them in. After his opponent got tired and showed a gap, he would surround and destroy them.

Graden further divided the "Wolf Comet", his strongest offensive heavy spear unit, into eight battalions, and stationed them in strategic locations.

They must be Graden's elite assassin, a mixed-use detachment unit. When they use 《Heavenly Assault Formation》, their attacks are unstoppable. It was obvious how determined he was, because Graden sent the Comet Wolf from the start.

Two armies fought vigorously under the endless sky.

The battle of Nobis which future generations refer to as the turning point of history began.

The Sun Knights Basecamp

"What a formidable formation."

Oscar said with admiration. When Graden saw the deployment of the First Army, he agreed with a nod.

"As expected of the army commanded by Ever Victorious General, it was perfect."

(General always wins.)

That was why Graden felt melancholy. The difference between their kings resulted in such a huge difference. Compared to Ramza who was famous as the Good Emperor, King Alphonse of the Kingdom of Farnesse was called the King of Idiots.

Considering the fact that he inherited the regression of the Kingdom for 600 years, this was an obvious result. When the war first started, Graden was very passionate about the fight between the Empire and the Lion Nation. But it turned out to be more like a joke.

“There is no 'if' in history, but if the First Army were to actively join forces from the start, the situation would not be like this. Perhaps this was the fate where the Kingdom of Farnesse missed their chance."

Oscar raised the corner of his lips, and seemed to be thinking the same thing as Graden. However, another question flashed through Graden's mind.

"By the way, Oscar, have you seen Colonel Gaier's report?"

“—Are you talking about 《Memoar God of Death》?”

Oscar replied after a short pause.

“Yes, the 《Memoar God of Death》.”

"Nothing, I just thought that the Kingdom should have been cursed long ago."

Because of that Death God girl, the Empire lost a lot of their army. Osborne, George, and Listenberg, many powerful men fell into his hands.

Linking all the rewards to the Death God alone would be an exaggerated statement, but the Empire's bid to conquer the continent must have slowed down because of him. As the supreme commander of the Imperial Army, Graden was prepared to be accused of incompetence, but a written attack from the Imperial Civil Service had yet to arrive.

Also second only to the Emperor, Chancellor Dalmes, and the leader of the civil officials, did not pursue Graden. That's disconcerting.

Military and Civil Service officers are similar to oil and water, and do not mix well. The same applies to the top dogs of these two factions, Graden and Dalmes. Graden is therefore confused by Dalmes' attitude…

“There is no point in thinking about the problem with the God of Death. Our opponent is the First Army commanded by the General who Always Wins. Let's focus on winning this fight."

The Oscar proposal was correct, and Graden nodded firmly.

"You're right. The God of Death was formidable, but the Always Winning General was also not easy to give up. One mistake could cost us an entire army."

Oscar agreed with a nod, but the matter with the God of Death was still an urgent matter. Oscar suggests sending Felixus to conquer it, and Graden is not surprised by it, as he already plans to do so.

After Rosenmarie was defeated, the only one who could fight the God of Death, the strongest person in the Kingdom, was probably Felixus, the strongest in the Empire.

Graden plans to order Felixus to conquer the God of Death after destroying the Second Army. However, he got unexpected news about the attack on Fort Astra. Graden sent Felixus to Fort Astra just in case, and never imagined it would be attacked by a mysterious unit instead of the Seventh Army.

And the leader of that unit was a Witch who possessed Holy Power. Graden felt grateful to himself for being so careful. If Felixus were to arrive late, the result would be catastrophic.

After careful consideration, Graden decided to let Felixus underline Fort Astra for a while. The mysterious unit might not return, but there was no guarantee that the Seventh Army would not attack. And if Felixus was there, they would definitely be able to fend off the God of Death.

In order to quell the schemes of other countries against the Empire, Graden must win this battle.

"Enemy infantry are attacking our left flank!"

Upon receiving the report, Graden swung his command staff.

The Right Side of the First Army

Half a day after the battle.

The Right Wing got a lot of trouble from the Sun Knight's powerful defense, but they slowly excelled. At first glance, It looks like the Royal Army has the advantage, but—

"It's bad…"

The white-haired and skinny Major General Travis muttered. His red robe had the silver two-headed eagle emblem of the Mayer family. This was one of the houses of the "Six Eight Leaves Flower", a group of elite warrior clans in the Kingdom.

His adjutant who gave the instruction, Lieutenant Colonel Bram, looked at Travis in confusion. Travis realized that he was talking too loudly.
