The American In Another World

The American In Another World
Chapter 3: The Diplomacy

Principality of Qua Toyne, Capital

april 30, 1639, 11:00

Prime Minister Kanata looked up at the sky when she heard a strange cutting sound, as if a hundred wyverns were flapping their wings simultaneously. As the sound grew louder, he squinted, identifying the source of the chopping sound: the 'helicopter' that Americans use to travel. He stepped back as they floated above him, carefully landing on the courtyard. Leaves from nearby trees and bushes flew in all directions, only to settle when the helicopter propeller stopped its activity.

A man in a dark suit came out of the main helicopter, flanked by several burly-looking guards wielding weapons like black rifles. "Prime Minister Kanata?" He called.

“Yes, I guess you are Ambassador Anders of the United States?” He walked over to shake his hand.

"Yes. Nice to meet you, Prime Minister,” replied Anders curious about the origin of the name Kanata. "Doubt if we bring this in?"

"of course. Please follow me." Kanata led Anders and his delegation to the conference room, where several of the Toynian Qua leaders were already seated.

Thank you, Anders said as he received the seat offered by a waiter. He sat down, and took out some documents from his bag while Qua Toynian finished preparing their papers.

“Now,” said Kanata, clasping her hands together. “We will begin the first diplomatic discussion between the Kingdom of Qua Toyne and the United States! Ambassador Anders?”

Anders stands. “On behalf of the United States, I thank you for receiving us so well and at such a fast pace. I also want to emphasize our sincere apologies for violating your airspace.”

Kanata nodded. “We accept your apology. Now, for this meeting, we specifically want to know more about your country. Who exactly are we having diplomatic talks with?”

Anders collected the documents from his bag and distributed them. “On these documents, you will find basic information about our country and a summary of our circumstances in this New World.”

As the Qua Toynian delegation picked up the documents, Anders noticed some puzzled gazes between them.

“Umm.. Mr. Ambassador,” Foreign Minister Matara started, “We can't read this.”

"Huh?" Anders surprised. "But you're speaking English right now" he said confusedly.

“Any indeed..” replied Matara. “We do not know the language you refer to as this 'English. To us, it looks like you are speaking a common language!”

"Oh. I think we should finish this for future discussions. For now, I can explain the details verbally.” Anders nodded at one of the sailors who turned on the projector. The projector displays a presentation to the polished wooden wall of the conference room, providing visual context for Anders' explanation. Qua Toynian was mesmerized by the magical look, gasping in shock as the image on the wall appeared out of nowhere.

The projector displays a map of the U. S. next to the Rodenius continent, and other landmasses with incredible detail. Pictured northeast of the continent of Rodenius, the continental United States is a large landmass that exceeds the size of Rodenius. Surrounding it are several islands, consisting of other summoning territories such as Guam and Puerto Rico, in addition to new islands, as discovered by the United States Japanese Forces (USFJ). To the north of the United States and south of the continent of Grameus, there is another large landmass, identified as 'Alaska', another parent of the United States.

One of the Toynian Qua officials gawked at the picture. "How do you produce such a map?"

“We use satellite imagery, but that will be a lesson for another time. Continental US,” Anders use laser pointer and point it to the map, “ has a rough size of about 3.12 million square miles. With Alaska and all our other territories, this number is close to 4 million. Across our land, the United States has a population of about 332 million inhabitants.”

“Hmph, there should be no country in that direction. There's only an open ocean there! I had the impression that this was an official meeting, not a discussion of fairy tales and legends!” foreign Minister Matara.

“Well, I don't know what to say to you. We were transferred from planet Earth, summoned to this world. If you still doubt the existence of the United States, why don't you come and see it for yourself?”

Kanata nodded. "That's a good idea. I will prepare a delegation.”

"alright. We will depart tomorrow morning; a cruise ship will be here to take you to our beach.”

Kanata nodded again, wondering what kind of person this American was, with such a friendly offer.

——

Maihark Port

1 May 1639, 8:00 am

Sir Yagou looked towards the harbor when one of the smaller metal ships and a large ship were pulled in, comparable to the flat-roofed ship that had been here before. Decorated with many windows, decorations, and even some strange buildings on it, Yagou felt the ship was like a floating palace. The most prominent feature of the ship was the particular face emblem: a round circle in the middle and two small circles symbolizing the large ears. Is this a royal ship in the United States?

Earlier, he and Foreign Minister Matara shared their concerns about sea travel, fearing disease and disasters on the high seas. Now, after seeing the floating palace directly, he felt his fear subside. “Matara, inevitably I feel guilty for getting such a luxurious treatment. It's not like we're Parpaldian nobles; we're just diplomats from a barbarian state. Is the United States really generous, or even wealthy, to provide such a mode of transportation for us?”

“If you look at something from their point of view, they realize that they are newcomers in this world. They wanted a good first impression, so they sent us a floating palace to take us to their homeland.”

A small boat headed for the city as Yagou and her delegation waited. “Yes, I think they have given us an amazing look so far..”.

Ambassador Anders walked in from behind them. “Good morning friends. Enjoying the view?”

Yagou suppressed her excitement. “Yes, I must say, I am quite amazed by the size of this ship. Are we going to see the royal family members who sent us this cross-sea palace?” He asked, pointing to the badge.

Anders chuckles. “Oh, we have no royalties in the United States. There are no nobles or anything like that, even though we have a lot of very rich people. The ship is owned by a company: Disney. Due to the state of the recent transfer, they have not been able to launch any cruise ships with their boats, so we are renting one for now. Follow me, we will take a small boat and head to the cruise ship.” He started walking down the pier.

After loading everyone's luggage onto the small boat, Yagou's delegation boarded, staring in awe at the strange design.

“If you don't have a screen,” asks Matara, “how do you move?”

Anders dragged his hands along the hull of the small ship. “This ship moves using the machine. Underwater, a fan or turbine is mounted to the hull of the ship, and as it spins, we are pushed forward. I do not know the specifics of ship engines and propulsion, but most modern ships rely on this engine combination.”

The Qua Toynian delegation nodded and took their seats.

“You may want to hold on to the fence. This ship can be a little fast.”

The delegates complied and felt a rumble under their feet. Suddenly, the boat swayed forward, speeding at a shocking speed as it skipped, against the current. Anders looked back at the delegates. Some of them screamed in shock, but overall they were having fun.

When they reached the cruise ship, the delegation of Qua Toynian revealed emotions similar to Captain Vansen's feelings when he first saw the incredible height of USS Ronald Reagan. Instead of looking at alien war machines with untold power, these delegates find glittering rooms and luxuries that show superpowers.

Anders walked with them to their room. “We will be heading to the city along our southwest border: San Diego. Unfortunately, it will take a few days before our airport is operational again, so we will not go to Hawaii. Better to enjoy the cruise longer..” murmured. “By the way, some staff members will be coming soon, you can ask them to go around the ship if you want. They can also give you a brief overview of the activities they have. There is an open bar under the deck, and the pool is free for you to use, in my opinion. I don't know about the slides.

The delegates nodded silently, taking their time to absorb the overwhelming information given to them.

Yagou looked at her compatriot. "Should we explore that ship?"

San Diego, California

May 3, 1639

After relaxing for a few days on the cruise, Yagou sighed, realizing that they could not enjoy the luxury forever. Still, phenomenal alien food, magical cold drinks, and moving picture mirrors in rooms are something to keep in mind. One of the ship's staff helped her move her luggage, pointed it at the deck, before bringing a large cart filled with towels and other cleaning materials to her room. Yagou leaned against the fence while waiting for her delegation to arrive. Cruise ships move carefully while sailing inside the bay. On the left, Yagou saw a large facility with many winged aircraft. Across the landscape, numerous glass towers soar into the sky, signifying the city's opulence.

"San Diego International Airport" said a voice behind him.

Yagou turned. “Good morning, Ambassador Anders. I must say, the city here is amazing! I never imagined a glass tower this tall.Jeez, I can't imagine how expensive all that glass is!” He shook his head in wonder.

“Well, we have a cheap way to mass produce glass. Still, these skyscrapers can cost up to billions of dollars, which may equal the net revenue generated by Maihark.

Yagou felt her brain numb. Such a structure was extremely expensive, yet these Americans were able to produce dozens in each city. "How many cities does your people have?"

Anders shrugged his shoulders. “I don't know. Hundreds of? Well, here's one thing I know for sure: San Diego isn't the biggest city. You should see New York one day. Skyscrapers as far as the eye can see!”

Yagou looked down earnestly.

Anders immediately changed his tone, becoming even more excited. “But it also means a new beginning for us, which is untouched by the worries that plagued our old home, I hope. Here, look again to the left. It's one of our main naval bases here. After we are done anchoring, we will head here and then move to the air base on our right, where we will travel to the Capital by private jet.”

Yagou looked at the fleet of ships anchored at the base. Ports are full of activity: small vehicles roam everywhere, large constructions lift crates and supplies, and different types of planes overhead. The iron dragons roared, splitting the sky with thunder as they flew to an unknown destination.

"It's pretty busy around here" Anders explained. “We recently experienced a big storm — the same storm that brought us here — and know nothing about this new planet, it is, we are everywhere in relation to our activities. We have to distribute a lot of equipment and fixtures, to start the repair.”

The cruise ship finally docked. The process took less time than expected, thanks to a lack of deliveries and civil travel. Anders led the Toynian Qua delegation down from the ship, directing them to a limousine. “This is a vehicle commonly referred to as a 'car'. Functionally similar to a car. The only difference is this vehicle relies on the engine to move, not the horse.”

He opened the door for the delegation members and they sat inside. Inside, the Qua Toynians made a complimentary comment about the car's spacious atmosphere. Compared to other vehicles that pass by on the road, this one does seem more luxurious.

“We will be heading to Hilton Hotel here. We will be able to unpack our belongings and then return to explore the city. I'm sure you guys are starving, so after we drop off our bags, I can take you downtown and we can find something to eat.

The next trip was exhausting enough for Anders; he was bombarded with questions after questions about American culture and the various technologies Qua Toynian had encountered so far. “Oh, by the way,” said Anders, “You will get a phone at the hotel. We'll instruct you on their operation, but I think a good comparison might be which communication device you, your Navy, use.

Just like a cruise ship, this hotel provides a similar atmosphere. Unlike the relatively quiet cruises, the hotel is full of people in the lobby: guests who lose contact with the house and clamor for details. Most of them were too engrossed in their personal matters to notice the strangely dressed man with long, taper ears passing by.

“Wah, I thought we'd be mobbed. Elves and other races do not exist on Earth,” explains Anders.

"Oh, what happened to them?" Matara asked.

“Well, it's okay. They never existed, at all. Elves and other races, until now, only exist in works of fiction.”

"That's it," Yagou said as she let the confused hotel staff pick up her bag.

——

After lunch at a local sushi restaurant, Anders guides the Qua Toynians around town.

“Wow, I would love to visit Japan. It is unfortunate such a dream is impossible.” muttered Yagou.

"Maybe in another life" answered Anders.

A sharp buzzing sound stopped their discussion of Japan. Looking around to identify the source, Anders pointed to a burning power pole. A man who was working on the pole had jumped up to avoid an electric shock, and was now on the floor, tending to his feet.

Yagou immediately acted.

Anders tried to stop him, saying, "Wait, let the fire department handle this!"

"Let him; he is one of the most adept we have. Matara approached Anders while extending a hand.

Yagou ignored him and took the initiative. "Everybody, stay away from the fire!" He shouted to the observers around him. "You!" He pointed to the injured fellow technician, "Pull your friend back!"

Pedestrians and technicians made room for the strangely dressed man with those long ears, following his orders. Then, they witnessed a demonstration of magic, which until recently only existed in the realm of games, shows, and books. Yagou took a deep breath and raised her hand into the air, channeling her magical energy into a swirling ball of cold air. Then, he let go, blew up the power pole with freezing air and immediately put out the electric fire.

Seeing the fire completely extinguished, the spectators applauded. Yagou also ignored this and rushed over to the injured technician. "Here, hold it steady and I can help fix your legs." He held onto the man's leg, which had been twisted in a heartbreaking position. Yagou closed her eyes and muttered something indecipherable, where her hand was emitting a yellowish color. The technician's foot slowly moved back to its original position, and the wound on his skin was covered, healing completely and without scarring.

“Yes God,” said the technician, “thank you, sir! How can I reply you?”

“Don't worry about paying me, good citizen. Take good care of yourself,” Yagou stood up, cleaning the dirt from her clothes. Again, the audience applauded. Many took out their phones, after recording many magical ordeals.

Ambassador Anders looked at Yagou in shock. "What...what just happened?"

“Hm? I used a combination of ice magic and wind magic to extinguish the fire; I used healing magic to heal the legs of this worker,” Yagou replied indifferently.

Anders, along with the crowd that was now gathering, were all shocked. "What?" anders denied it. "Magic?"

“True,” says Yagou. Then, tilting his head in confusion, he continued, “Is there no magic in the United States?”

“No... Like the lack of elves and other races I mentioned earlier, we also have no magic. I guess this shouldn't be too surprising, considering that we've seen fire-breathing wyverns, but still? That's amazing." Anders scratched his head.

Matara interrupts, “Excuse me, Dubes.” He showed Anders the time on his new phone. “Don't we have to go back to the hotel now? We have to check-in.”

"really. Let's go, ” said Anders.

San Diego, California

May 4, 1639

Yagou yawned as she walked out of her room. He picked up his bag, checked his room to make sure he didn't forget anything. "That's great. Washington DC, hm? I'm so happy!" Yagou said to herself. As he exited the door, he saw Matara and the other delegates preparing to leave as well. "Everything ready?"

They nodded.

"Make sure you're not leaving anything behind."

Convinced that they were not careless, they followed Yagou down the elevator. Ambassador Anders is already in the lobby, waiting for them. "Hi good morning. Are you guys resting well?”

“Of course,” says Yagou. “Magic wind generator that produces cold air out of nowhere is very soothing.”

Anders smiled. "Cooling room. And it's not magical; it relies on technology that's subject to the laws of thermodynamics, so unfortunately it doesn't produce cold air out of nowhere. I'm sure our scientists would love to learn magic, ” he said.

Yagou and Matara looked at each other, thinking the same thing. “Of course, after we discuss the suitable deal during our negotiation.”

They walked out and entered a black SUV. Anders looked back at them. Say, since we're ahead of schedule today, do you guys want to see an air show?

——

The San Diego Naval Base

“Now, there is no official air show today, but one of the patrols will be back in the near future. I can ask them to do a small demonstration before they land.”

Anders walked into an office while a Qua Toynian delegation waited outside, getting plenty of gazes from base personnel and pedestrians on the sidewalk outside. After a few minutes, Anders emerged from the office, bringing good news. “It looks like we're lucky. It should see some good stuff in about a few minutes.

Sure enough, a few minutes later, two F-35s flew overhead. With near-perfect timing, the jets broke the sound barrier across the city, getting plenty of cheers and shouts from pedestrians below, who is very excited to witness the unscheduled free air shows. Sensing the sonic bang on their bones, Yagou and Matara clapped.

“For Heaven's sake, that's astounding! So, is this the same kind of iron dragon that flew over Maihark?” Yagou wondered.

“No, this is F-35. Our latest multirole fighter. The one flying over Maihark was a reconnaissance plane. These, on the other hand, are some of the most versatile assassins we have ever thrown into the sky. I'm quite a nerd for things like this. The F-35 is armed with a long-range radar system and is equipped with stealth technology such as.”.

Yagou and Matara set it up, paying little heed to explanations and focusing on the jets that make the above spin. All they had in mind at this moment was determination. If the United States were to send an iron dragon like this to Qua Toyne, there would be no competition at all. On the other hand, if the United States were to use this against Louria, it could make a huge difference.
