(NOT) Your Ordinary Lab Girl

(NOT) Your Ordinary Lab Girl
Threats

“Hey, are you okay?” Remi asked me who was stuck in the police car that took us to their base.

“It....., it's NINA!! NINAAAA!!” hysterical when I played back the event in my brain. Remi hugged me tightly, I sobbed the sedan in her arms. Sera who was sitting beside me was pensively staring out the window.

I knew Nina too well that no matter how terrible the condition of the corpse was I still recognized her.

Nina, my Nina, is dead. In a cruel way I can't imagine.

Am I dreaming? Who could have committed this atrocity on Nina? He was the most gentle and kind man I knew.

My hands were clenched, anger overpowered me. Whoever did this to Nina, I'll make sure I get a much more ruthless reply.

“Hey, hey. Calm down.” Remi stroked my back making me shut.

“Crazy, so horrible. I'm not sure I can live a normal life after this. Those eyes, those eyes.” softened Sera like muttering to herself.

What Sera said was true.

“Meha, are you the culprit? I don't want to be in a room with a killer!” accuse Sera suddenly.

“Hey, hey. Quiescent. You have no right to accuse me.” Remi reprimanding Sera.

“DIAM. You three are suspects.” The police in front knocked on the bars separating the driver and passenger benches.

Hearing that, the three of us looked at each other.

“Aui only, Meha. I saw you fight with Nina 3 days ago.” hiss Sera continued her accusation.

“If that's your basis to accuse me, it means that you too can be a suspect. Nina caught you cheating on Mr. Langdon's quiz. All also know what happens to students who cheat in the subject Mr Langdon, E minus all season.”

“I didn't kill him! Damnit!”

“That's how, next time learn to shut your big mouth if you don't want to bite your own tail.” I end this ridiculous debate firmly.

I still heard Sera grumbling, but I chose silence. What Sera said was true, 3 days ago I did have a fight with Nina.

But it was because of my love for him that he still accepted David after being repeatedly hurt. Their relationship is toxic! David knew how good Nina was to be so devious to use her.

For me it was unforgivable 3 days ago to find a purple circle in Nina's eyes. I confronted him to leave David, but he was still busy defending. Ah Nina, I'm sorry I didn't try harder to keep you that time.

I left because I was too upset. I hope that my departure opens your mind, Nin. I regret stepping out of the dorm that day Nin, when it could have been your toughest times. I'm not a good friend. Disappointment towards myself flowed in every breath.

Remi was still staring at me. This time I cried in silence until the car arrived at the police headquarters.

Two detectives took me to the examination room.

“Meha, right?” ask a detective with a look similar to Tom Hiddleton moustached version.

“True.”

“Can you tell me your position at the time of the incident?”

I also told my point of view smoothly without anything I covered up.

“The victim, Nina Smith, is your roommate.”

“So, is that true him?”

“Sadly, yes. Sorry for losing you.”

My tears came back again, hearing it officially from the detective broke my expectations about the possibility of my misjudgment.

“Mm- yes, she's my roommate,”

“There are reports of seeing you guys having a big fight in the hostel,”

“After that, where are you? And can anyone confirm your story?”

“I-I'm not sure, because I'm staying in the library loft. And there's no one.”

The police exchanged glances and I felt my position was threatened.

“Look, Nina and I got into a fight because of her abusive boyfriend. I love him, if you're looking for a suspect then you're suspicious of the wrong person. It could be that he deliberately placed Nina's body in my lab with the intention of mocking me. Frankly, our relationship is not good.”

“Who was Nina's boyfriend's name?”

“David. David Brown.”

“Good. What about the laboratory access key, anyone who has it?”

“Know me, Head of Department, Lecturer Head of Lab, 3 lecturers of study, I – lab assistants and four research students, Sera one of them is – that you are asking as well.”

“So, anyone can log in undetected?”

“Not really. The door lock in the lab is an electronic key, the way to open it is to enter the password that has been registered to the Administrative Department. Only combinations that have been registered can enter. Each user has a different password.”

“Hmm..., and whose door user history is held by whom?”

“It should be listed on the majors server, because it is centralized there.”

“This machine, which you call a big presto pot, anyone can operate it?”

“It is a tool that will definitely be used if working with microorganisms, to eliminate contaminants. So all lab kids are required to be proficient at using it.”

“Who used it last time?”

“Mm, you definitely wouldn't ask me like this if the killer kindly wrote his name in the log book using the tool,”

“You know, your position is difficult, miss.”

“Yes, I know, but I will act cooperatively.”

“Good. Thank you for your information, Miss Meha. For a while you can go back to the dorm. Try not to get out of town anytime soon because we can call you anytime.”

“Good, Sir.”

From now on, the other detective just quietly listened to us, he looked a little spooky and his age was old, his stomach was puffed forward, maybe soon retired.

I'm walking back to the dorm, just a few blocks from here. It's past curfew, the bells in the cathedral ring 12 times.

The autumn wind blows like a wild dog whistle. I was holding the heat energy out of my body. D*mn! I cursed myself for forgetting to take my beloved coat with me when I was picked on by the police. Now I have to fight the cold brought by the September wind.

Passing through the playground where the lights were dim, I saw a shadow that was hiding as I reflexed facing back. The deg! My instincts are watch out. My adrenaline goes up and my heart beats faster. Feeling that someone was following, I took the initiative to walk faster, but apparently my stalker did the same thing, shadowing my steps at the same speed.

I ventured to look back once more, but empty, there was no one on the street. When I saw the row of blocks in front of me that were being built so dark, there were no street lights, I hesitated. Is it just my hallucination? As I continued my steps, I heard an unnatural rustle from the sound of the leaves being stepped on.

It wasn't just my imagination! Without a fuss, I ran fast! Then hide at the intersection covered by the wall.

I heard my stalker running following frantically, when the shadow of that person was visible to me, I was about to catch him. But a big hand smothered my mouth and pulled me into the darkness of the hallway. I flailed and hit that arm.

“Pssst...” whispered.

‘Remi!’

“Tenace. Let's see who's following you.”

My heart was calm knowing Remi's whereabouts. In the darkness we saw the old detective kicking a garbage can upset at losing track of me.

Me and Remi looked at each other. Do you want that detective?
