Alarick widened his eyelids. He raised his face for fear of hearing Ravella's wrong speech.
"You mean you want to marry a contract with a man?"
"Yes, right," Ravella replied without hesitation.
"But why didn't you get married? Was Mom traumatized by her previous marriage?" ask Alarick to know.
Ravella did not answer. He thought it was useless to explain to Alarick if he had never been married. Even dating he was reluctant because for him men only like to seek profit from women.
"Shortly, ma'am, may I know who that man was yesterday with Mom?"
"He's Marco and Mirel's father" Ravella replied briefly.
"So the man was right her ex-husband. Looks like he's a well-established guy. Why don't they just talk?"
alarick thought for a moment.
"How, do you want to back off? Not to help me?" challenge Ravella. Like a man crossing a river, he was in the middle. So he forced Alarick to help him.
"No, frankly I don't understand why Mom is looking for a contract husband. Do you want revenge on your ex-husband?"
"You don't have to ask. Just help me find a husband in two days' time."
Alarick was again made to flinch with Ravella's words. Yes, this woman seems to have severe depression so ask for things that are beyond reason. Alarick himself is not sure if any of his friends are willing to become Ravella's contract husband. They are all children from beautiful families. They don't need money and can have any woman they want.
"Mom, if two days I can't promise. If you want to hurry, you can find a partner in the dating app. But I think it's too risky. It could be that the man who came was even a fraud or a criminal."
No time Ravella responded, the phone screen was back twinkling. But this time it was not an incoming message but a call from Steven. Ravella's face instantly turned deathly pale. He swiped the green button on his phone with trembling hands.
"Hello, Ravella, since you didn't return my message I was forced to call you. I know you still have two days left to think. But I think faster is better. Therefore, I decided to pick up my two children tomorrow afternoon. Please prepare their clothes and books" Steven said at length.
"I won't let you do it!" hardik Ravella's.
"Why be stubborn, Ravella? I prepared the check I promised. You can immediately melt it after Marco and Mirel I brought it to Jakarta."
"Look, Steven, I don't need your money! If you dare to approach my son for a while, I will report you to the police!" snapped Ravella wrathful. Alarick who was in front of him was surprised to hear Ravella's scream. Never had he seen Ravella this angry.
"How could you rather fight me at the green table than hand my son willingly?" reply Steven is no less fierce.
"Yes, that's my choice. I'm not afraid of you."
"Okey, if that's what you want. Just wait for the court's call!"
Steven immediately disconnected his phone call without further ado. While Ravella was sitting limp in the chair. His eyes that were originally filled with anger turned heartily. Ravella was unable to cry anymore, only her heart was squeezed. It was so painful that it made him feel deep despair.
Seeing Ravella looking in shock, Alarick held the woman's hand to lend support. He was afraid that Ravella would fall unconscious in front of him.
"Calm down, ma'am, take a breath and exhale."
"I can't" Ravella replied in a raucous voice.
For the umpteenth time Ravella did not answer. Highlight his eyes empty like a person who lost his direction and purpose in life. Seeing that, Alarick became anxious. He felt he had to do something to wake Ravella up. Alarick stood up and pulled Ravella out of her chair. He grabbed onto Ravella's cold body and hugged her tightly.
Ravella gasps at Alarick's sudden action. He wanted to rebel and break away, but his strength seemed to weaken. It is undeniable that he is in need of protection from someone. He needs a firm shoulder as a place to lean on and pour out all his heart. And somehow he felt that only Alarick could give it all away.
Unknowingly, Ravella enters Alarick's arms. He sobbed softly as he wrapped his arms around the man's waist. All Ravella wanted was to shed all the grief that stifled her heart.
"Cry if you want to cry. No one is arrested. Sometimes by crying the burden in our hearts will be reduced" said Alarick softly. He rubbed Ravella's back gently to make the woman comfortable. This time, Alarick was very attentive and patient towards a woman. Usually he is always indifferent and lazy to face the drama made by his former lovers.
They haven't been in that position for long. Even the front of Alarick's shirt was wet with Ravella's tears. After Ravella calmed down enough, Alarick broke into her arms. He was about to move to the table to pick up the tissue but Ravella held her arm.
"Rick, can I beg you for something?" asked Ravella with eyes.
"What is that, Mom?"
I don't know why Alarick's premonition became so bad. Could it be that Ravella would ask him to....Ah, if his guess is correct how should he give an answer later?
"I've said before that I need a contract husband. But I can't possibly find it in a short time. Moreover, I'm desperate."
"Then do you mean Mom?" alarick asked raising his eyebrows.
Ravella no longer cares about her dignity or her pride as a woman. Whatever he's willing to sacrifice for Marco and Mirel. Moreover, only Alarick is a man who already knows the thorny problems in his life.
"Please, Rick, be my contract husband. I need a husband so that my two children are not taken by his father. If you're willing, I'll pay you today as well" Ravella said.
Alarick's tongue becomes a machete. His throat was dry like a traveler wandering in the desert. What kind of request is this? Alarick Adhiyaksa, heir to the Adhiyaksa Group, asked to be a contract husband? Will it even be paid with some money by a woman? If his extended family finds out about this, they could have a heart attack. And again where should he put his face if there are employees or board of directors who caught him as a paid husband?
"Rick, why shut up? My money is not much. I only have fifty million of my parents' inheritance. But I'm willing to give you thirty million. The rest I'll use to pay the lawyer," asked Ravella, shaking Alarick's hand.
Ravella Alarick wanted to laugh while crying. Alarick Adhiyaksa was only valued at thirty million? This is fucking crazy. Even his shoes cost more than that.
In that ambiguous atmosphere, a drizzle suddenly descended soaking Alarick and Ravella's heads. Alarick hurriedly took Ravella's hand and invited her to take shelter in the restaurant.
"Oh, I didn't bring a raincoat. How do we get home later?" alarick.
"We wait until the rain subsides" Ravella replied briefly.
About thirty minutes they waited, but the rain was even more intense with strong winds. Alarick glanced briefly at Ravella who was shivering in the cold. The woman looked so fragile and helpless, that it made Alarick move to protect her.
"Mom, why would Mom's husband want to take Marco and Mirel? Shouldn't a legally underage child be in the care of his or her biological mother?" ask Alarick to make sure.
Ravella simply replied softly without looking at Alarick's face.
"That's because I'm not their birth mother."
