Elle had fallen asleep a few minutes ago after Sofia ended the story of the snow princess and her kurcaci. The girl's lips smiled sweetly. Sofia's fingers stretched out to fix the blanket on Elle's body. On his right side, Nando the papa was still awake while holding his laptop, completing some of the reports that Alex inputted earlier this afternoon. This day, the young papa had indeed spent it playing with Elle.
" Want me to make you some coffee?" haggar Sofia is shrinking for fear that Elle will wake up. The man beside him gave a quick glance then nodded. She wasn't a coffee drinker, but she had to finish her job that night.
Sofia moved slowly down the bed and into the kitchen, making black coffee for her husband. He knew making Nando coffee at night like this was not good for his health, but honestly he did not have the heart to see the man yawn several times but still tried to survive.
"Where are you going to be put?" sofia asked with a cup of coffee in her hand. At first glance he glanced at the wall clock, still nine o'clock passing by.
"Let's put it on the table." Without much sofia headed for the table with a long sofa there. Nando got off with his laptop and headed there.
"Wash your face first. It must be fresher." cursed wanit high all that.
"Later on."
"hmmm"
"where you going?"
"sleep."
"You sleepy?" Sofia's eyes are rubbing. He is not sleepy at the moment. His work as a doctor made him accustomed to staying up all night or falling asleep at unusual times.
"I'm afraid to bother you."
"come here!" Nando patted the empty spot next to him.
"Don't you bother?" asked Sofia doubtfully. He knows men like Nando like a quiet room to get the job done. Nando shook his head, making Sofia dare to step up and sit next to him.
"I was just researching Alex's report, not working on the financial statements" he said calmly as he sipped his coffee. The man was silent for a long time, and his tongue was soft. There is a different taste to the coffee he drinks.
"Why?not delicious?" Sofia who caught the strange gurgle on Nando felt the need to ask. He did not want to be accused of poisoning the young master, although sometimes he wanted to do so because he could not stand his harsh words.
"Why does it feel any different?"
"It's a mother-made coffee in the village. Instant coffee is not good for you because of the high levels of caffeine. We made it with a lot of ingredients that lower the caffeine in it. Not very healthy, but enough to prevent addiction. Don't drink if you don't like." Sofia's hand is stretched out to grab the cup in Nando's hand, but the man keeps her out of Sofia's reach.
"No! I like the smell of ginger." refused firmly.
"Thank God."
"The company I drank it with" he said briefly, as he resumed his activities. Sofia nodded, pulled out her nightgown pocket and pulled out Nando's cell phone. Accompanying the man will make it saturated if only silence beside him.
Several times Sofia replied to the message of her colleagues at the puskesmas first. Many funny stories that flow from their chat, making him laugh a little though a little held back.
"Done." whispered Nando as he closed his laptop and moved to stretch his muscles.
"as fast as that?” ask Sofia wonder. He had glanced at it earlier. Alex even sent Nando a pretty big file. But why did it finish so soon?
" It's kind of giving your patients flu medicine. It's easy."
"hmm."
" All things would look difficult if done by people who are not in the field of doctors." whispered Nando, then back to enjoy his hearty coffee.
"I know that." continued Sofia.
" Do you love your job?" Sofia turned towards Nando.
"why?"
"you want to know?"
"if you don't mind." Sofia let out a long breath.
"Because I'm just a farmer's kid who's going to graduate high school. When other children enjoyed their teenage years, I was busy working so as not to bother father and mother."
"Continue." Nando said.
"For what? just a sad story, let me remember it." Sofia replied with a discordant laugh. He does not want to be branded seeking sympathy by making up dramatized false stories.
"But I also deserve to know because I'm your husband Sofia. Don't forget that."
"mmmmm"
"continue!"
" I worked in a dining hall to help wash dishes and clean up there after school. Thankfully, the owner was kind. In addition to giving me a fee, he also fed me every day until I graduated High School. I was determined to follow the selection of medical students and accepted in Surabaya. My father and mother were confused by my tuition fees at the time, but I was desperate to work part-time whatever was sometimes not enough. God is very good, HE brought me with a good friend, and so the reason I went to Jakarta. I want to attend her wedding." Sofia said with eyes glaring. All the most difficult moments he had ever gone through were like a replayed movie recording in his mind. A medical student who never even felt the beauty of campus and dating because it was too busy surviving.
"And God is good to me too. HE also brought us together in order to make Elle happy even for a moment." said Nando. The man was putting on his rough hair.
"Have you got an eye donor for Elle?" this time Nando shook his head weakly. It is not that easy to get a suitable donor even though he has unlimited power and money. All the men and connections have been deployed, but not yet fruitful. Unimaginable how trenchant in his heart when he saw his daughter just silent at home when all children his age laugh happily and play with his friends at school.
"Do you have an eye donor connection?"
"i'll try to contact my friends." Sofia replied. Although it had only been a few days of being a connecting mother for Elle, her maternal soul could not be denied. She loves the sweet, smart and obedient Elle.
"Doctor..if Elle could see you and accept you as Sofia, would you promise me to be with her?"
"if not?" Sofia looked at the blue ocean bead beside her questioningly.
"Please promise me you'll try to get him to accept you."
"why so?"
"Because there is no divorce in my life, except death that separates." Nando stared back at the brown netra Sofia with an illegible look.
"Then you promised me?" questions are almost like complaints.
"If you want to go please, but I'll never divorce you.until anytime!" both were silent in their minds.
"You're keeping this marriage just for Elle's sake, aren't you?"
"yes." There's a throbbing pain in Sofia's chest cavity.
"But that was." continued Nando while leaning his head on the sofa.
"then now?"
"I did it for myself. Although I have no reason to keep you, marriage is still a sacred thing that we must fight for Sofia. Now it's not just me, you're Elle's parents, right?"
"that's right."
"would you survive until death do us part?”
