Abhimanyu stared at the back of Infiera who started to disappear after turning from the entrance of his room. He felt riled up after seeing the change in expression on the woman's face when he saw her closeness to Almira.
Didn't they talk about this?
Brak!
“Do you want to be like this directly in front of singles?”
Suddenly, Gerald throws the book previously given by Infiera onto Abhimanyu's desk. Not only was Abhimanyu shocked, but also Almira.
Almira laughed as she closed her mouth. “Pak Gerald, stop! Look, Mr. Abi's face is flushed with embarrassment.” Almira teased, she glanced at Abhimanyu. He intends to joke because of all the lecturers who work there, he is one of—maybe the only person who knows if Abhimanyu is married.
“It's okay. Soon I will not be single if my beautiful student wants to marry me.”
Suddenly the sound of laughter bubbled from the west side of the room, Bu Rita could not stand the clumsiness of his lecturer. “Pak Gerald seems serious, huh? Then, come on, fight, sir. I'm the first person who will prepare a gift if you get married.”
Gerald brandished his two thumbs towards Bu Rita. “Mother is the best! I will fight for it, before it is taken by others.” Gerald said, while glancing at Abhimanyu who was still staring riled in any direction.
Bu Rita laughed again, now followed by Almira who was still sitting in Abhimanyu's chair. The woman chimed in occasionally because she felt that her lecturer was very funny and very honest with her feelings.
While Abhimanyu suddenly stood up and grabbed his bag.
“Where to go, Bi?” gerald asked, he knew that Abhimanyu had no schedule today, but he had forgotten to ask why.
“There are affairs in the office.”
Gerald just nodded. He understood very well the office that Abhimanyu meant was the editor of his publication. In addition to actively teaching, his best friend was indeed quite competent to run other businesses. That is why, he did not hesitate to invite the man to work together to build a cafe business together.
Abhimanyu ran out of his room. Gerald just pulled the corner of his lips smiling meaningfully while shaking his head and Almira just stared at the man without daring to ask anything more out of awareness, they no longer have anything special after that day—day where Abhimanyu said that he had to get married because of his parents betrothed.
Until the parking lot, Abhimanyu tried to contact Infiera, he intended to invite the woman to go home together and explain what happened between him and Almira, but unfortunately the woman's number was not active.
“Thank God, Fiera.” The three calls he made were still fruitless, Abhimanyu was increasingly uncomfortable with the situation.
What's up with him? Didn't they agree to be friends yesterday? They both know that the marriage is due to an unwanted match.
Almost five minutes Abhimanyu sat in his car and did not drive it, but still his wife did not pick up the call.
Eventually, Abhimanyu decided to return to his home. After all, he had to explain his relationship with Almira.
Arriving at his house, Abhimanyu got out of the car in a hurry. Quiet, there was no one in the house. In fact, there was no one in his room. The room was still the same as the last time he left it, this morning, still tidy.
Abhimanyu also did not see his parents. Apparently, they were still at the seminar, his father also said that they would go home again in the afternoon.
Abhimanyu rubbed his face rough, why did he feel that good just because he knew that Fiera saw the closeness of himself and also Almira?
Shouldn't everything be fine considering how their relationship has been? However, the thought still did not make him feel calm.
In the afternoon, Gunawan's black car is seen entering the courtyard.
Abhimanyu immediately ran out to see if his wife had also come home or not. Apparently, they were just the two of them. Abhimanyu was getting more anxious and tense as well. At this hour, Infiera has not returned yet, while her parents have returned. What if they ask his daughter-in-law?
“You just got home, Bi?” ask the mother to approach her son.
Abhimanyu first kissed the back of his parents' hands, then replied, “No, Mom, I came home again.”
Mother nodded, the middle-aged woman apparently did not ask anything about Infiera.
“Daddy take a shower first, mom wants to cook this.” Mom showed me the groceries she had bought on the street. So we can have dinner together later tonight.”
Dad immediately agreed, while Abhimanyu continued to look outside the fence of his house, to see if Infiera came home or not. Normally, the woman would return around four in the afternoon. It's five o'clock in the afternoon, but the trunk of his nose is nowhere to be seen.
Until dinner time arrives, Infiera is still not seen as well, making Abhimanyu increasingly worried, what else are his parents in their home. He kept contacting the woman, but didn't get an answer either, his message was also just a checklist of one.
17.00
[Fiera, where are you? Mom and Dad are home.]
17.30
[Fiera, if you're angry, I really won't help you.]
18.00
[Fiera, I asked you.]
Abhimanyu had wanted to throw his phone away since then, but he was still in custody.
19.30
[Fiera, this is really funny. Do you want to make me angry and embarrass me?]
The message was lined up Abhimanyu sent to Infiera, but still has not changed checklis two. After dinner, his parents even invited Abhimanyu to speak, but they still did not ask where his wife was.
Do her parents know that she and Fiera are in trouble? Lau, they as parents do not want to interfere? Yeah, it must be like that.
Until finally, around nine o'clock in the evening, a motorbike stopped in front of Abhimanyu's house. Fiera got off the online motorcycle and entered the house in a hurry. The expression on his face did not indicate that he was afraid. He stepped up with a casual expression and said his regards.
“New home, Fier?” Mother asked first.
“Have you had dinner?” ask mom again.
“Already, Mom, Fiera had dinner on the road.”
Hearing Fiera's reply, Abhimanyu clenched his hands in annoyance. The woman completely ignored her mother who had already cooked for them. Fiera even dared to eat outside while her parents were at home.
“Yes already, you go up there. Rest up. Must be very cape.”
Fiera smiled with her in-laws understanding. He immediately bailed to go to his room. After a while Abhimanyu also said goodbye, he followed Fiera to his room.
“You from anywhere?” abhimanyu asked, his voice slightly raised, but he still held him back so that his parents could not hear. “Do you deliberately want to embarrass me in front of mom and dad?”
Infiera who had just picked up a towel to take a bath immediately stopped her steps. He turned to Abhimanyu who was looking at him fiercely. Infiera frowned. “Making embarrassed? What have I done?” Infiera asked because she felt Abhimanyu's question was as if he was accusing her of doing something that was against the rules.
Abhimanyu was unmoved, he was still staring fiercely at his wife. “Do you know what time it is?”
“Of course I know. I can still see it on my phone.”
“Continue? Why are you coming home this early?”
Infiera was increasingly clueless with Abhimanyu's suddenly angry attitude.
“What's really why? Isn't Mas Abi also often coming home at this hour? It may even be more late than this.”
“Of course it's different. I have to finish a lot of work. Besides, now mom and dad are home. You should have understood to be home early.”
Hearing that, Fiera fell silent. Actually, she had already told her mother-in-law where she was going. In fact, this afternoon his father and mother-in-law invited him to have lunch together because it turned out that the event took place faster than they thought.
Fiera is late because she has to do her group work which must be completed next week. After that, he also had to meet with Gio, his editor, and the other team to discuss his book which was rejected by one of the publishers, who asked him to revise the ending of the story that had been written.
Fiera refuses to change the whole thing, eventually asking her editor for her opinion. All of his activities were known to his parents-in-law.
“Indeed, only Mas Abi has to work? Then what about me?” fiera asked in a low voice, her gaze so flat. “I have to meet my own personal needs. If it does not work, who wants to fulfill it?”
Abhimanyu gasped with Infiera's reply. It really slaps him as a husband who has to meet his wife's needs. So, Fiera's been working all this time? How could Abhimanyu not know?
“You're working?” ask Abhimanyu.
Fiera was silent, she was reluctant to answer him.
Yeah, of course you are. All because Abhimanyu never cared about the woman before him. He only met the basic needs in his house and paid the woman's tuition fees. The rest, he completely ignored his obligations.
Fiera again explained, “Quiet. I also told my mom and dad that I was going home late for work!”
In fact, Fiera not only told her in-laws that she had to do chores, but she also said that she liked to write and fill her free time by creating a book for her to publish on digital platforms.
So, he asked for permission as well to see his editor. Fiera kept her husband's marwah in front of her parents. Fiera even praised the man who supported her hobby, even though Abhimanyu knew nothing.
“You've already told mom and dad?”
“Ya.”
Abi was shocked and felt guilty. No wonder they weren't looking for his wife. Maybe also his parents thought that Abhimanyu already knew about it. “Ma-sorry, I'm right—“
“Take it easy. No need to worry about me embarrassing you, like I just traveled with another man.” He cut his words.
Again Fiera slapped her face very hard. “Fiera,” he said softly. “Actually, me and also Almira are..”
“Volver couple?” Fiera cut off her husband's words.
“You already know?” Abhimanyu surprised. “But, actually we it's already—“
Fiera smiled very widely. “Just relax, I get it, really. Anything else you want to talk about? I'm going to take a shower.”
“Ah, wait a minute.” Abhimanyu could not explain more. He stepped towards the nightstand, near the bed and took something from inside his wallet, then brought it back before Infiera.
“Use this for your needs. Forgive me for being so negligent.”
Fiera slightly lowered her head, looking at the card that Abhimanyu had thrust out.
“Why suddenly?” Fiera laughed blandly. “Really, I said that I also work not for this. I just wanted to let you know that I came home late because I had a job. So, you don't have to worry for me to embarrass you.”
Abhimanyu felt guilty about the charges. “I'm sorry about that. Please accept, don't make me feel more guilty.”
Fiera snorted thinly. “Good. I'll take it.” He took the card from Abhimanyu. “Thank you, yes. Then, I take a shower first.”
Fiera moved forward from before Abhimanyu. He simply placed his card on the nightstand, next to Abhimanyu's purse, then took the pre-prepared clothes before entering the bathroom.
Abhimanyu stared at his wife's missing back behind the bathroom door.
Although the woman said it was okay and thanked him, Abhimanyu was overwhelmed with overwhelming guilt.
What's more, he really didn't see the wrong radiance of sadness in the woman's eyes when she mentioned Almira's name. Despite smiling, Fiera was unable to cover up her anxiety. Abhimanyu ruffled his hair in frustration.
Why is it that these days, he cares more and more about their relationship? Hasn't everything been going well for a year?
Inside the bathroom, Fiera sat on the floor with her head bowed. His face was covered with a towel to muffle the sound that came out of his mouth. The shocks on her shoulders clearly showed that the woman was crying sobbing to relieve the tightness in her chest. Abhimanyu was very cruel to say such harsh words, without asking first.
