Heartbroken Melody
Chapter 2 - An Encounter that Brings Sadness

While in Junior High, Verlin has a daily routine that is never missed: reading in the library. This place became a haven for Verlin, a place where he could escape from the unjust reality he faced every day. There, he felt calm and focused on the world that existed within the books.

Not only did Verlin frequently visit the library, but there was also a classmate named Rena. Rena is an innocent girl and always wears glasses. They often meet in the library, find their pleasure in reading and explore the world of literature together.

Just as Verlin was about to sit at the table to read, suddenly his eyes were fixed on a mobile phone located on the table. Curiosity approached him, and he took the phone carefully.

“Eh? This phone...” said Verlin with astonishment. He twisted his brain, trying to remember who the owner of the phone was. Suddenly, she recalled that Rena, her classmate, often used a cell phone similar to that.

Without thinking, Verlin walked towards Rena's class which was not far from the library. After finding Rena, he approached her with a cheerful face.

“Um.. This is your phone right, Rena?” verlin asked while showing her the phone she had just found.

“Eh?” Rena was shocked and held the glasses on her face. Then, he looked towards Verlin with a sense of surprise and pleasure mixed in.

“You spared it in the library, so I think it's better I give it back to you,” Verlin explained with a smile.

Rena picked up her phone quickly, looking relieved. “Thank you for returning it,” Rena said with a sincere smile on her face. Gratitude and relief radiated from the look in his eyes.

With the invention of the phone, Verlin and Rena's relationship is getting closer. The smallness of these events suggests that there is kindness and mutual care between them, although the surrounding environment may see them with negative prejudices.

“Verlin, you always read books in the library right? Is there a book you recommend to me?” rena said enthusiastically.

“Recommendation book ya” said Verlin thought for a moment.

Verlin was both delighted and relieved when he realized how close he was to Rena. There was a warm and comfortable feeling that surfaced in his heart every time they interacted.

In their togetherness, Verlin feels able to forget his past full of misunderstandings and slander. Rena gives a kind of escape, a place where Verlin can find tranquility and sincerity.

However, ironically, due to some unexpected events, Verlin was instead re-branded as a criminal figure who wanted to attack Rena.

Of course, it was a sad misunderstanding. In the end, he was back in exile. Sometimes, life is unfair, and Verlin has to face the truth.

On a sunny day, Verlin gets a call from an unknown woman. In her heart, Verlin pondered, “What does she really need with me? Is there something he wants to say?”

The woman had short, sweetly unraveling hair around her face. Verlin tries to remember, and finally Sofie's name comes to his mind. Without hesitation, Verlin decides to face a meeting with Sofie.

“Ah... I've liked you for a long time. Ja-be my girlfriend.. I beg” said the girl with a blushing face and flushed cheeks.

Verlin was shocked to hear the confession. In his heart there was a battle between doubt and hope. He feels swayed between the desire to believe in the girl's feelings and the fear of repeating a misunderstanding that never happened before

“Eh, A-me? I'm hated because of my rumors, you know..” Verlin replied in a doubtful voice, but in his heart was a sincere desire to be trusted

The girl looked at Verlin with understanding, her eyes radiating warmth and confidence. “I trust you. Please from friends also no problem,” he said sincerely.

The girl's words left Verlin speechless for a moment. The statement evoked his desire to have true trust and relationships. Verlin began to think of the possibility that someone might see some good in him, though many others blamed him for rumors and negative perceptions.

“If from a friend I don't think it's a problem... Yes, right, let's start from the friendship first,” Verlin replied in a somewhat trembling voice, but with his newfound courage.

Verlin saw the excitement on the girl's face and felt a relief in his heart. He accepts the invitation with pleasure, realizing that this could be the start of a much better relationship than his past filled with misunderstandings.

After the weekend arrives, Verlin comes to the promised place in neat clothes, full of hope for the trip they plan. However, once she gets there, Verlin is shocked to see Sofie with two men who seem to be familiar with her.

Verlin watched them carefully, listening to what they said about Sofie. The two men seem very impressed with Sofie, praising her talent and showing awe at everything she does.

“Sofie is very talented,” said one of them.

“She really did her,” says another.

Verlin felt confusion and anxiety creeping within him. She looked at Sofie with a gaze that was looking for answers. Was this just a planned surprise or was something wrong?

However, before Verlin could reveal his confusion, the two men laughed out loud. There were jokes and ridicule about something that made Verlin even more confused.

“Hahaha. He said 'I'm waiting for you tomorrow'. Disgusting,” said one of them in a mocking tone.

Verlin felt his heart being torn apart. What the hell is going on? Is all this just a game to embarrass him?

Sofie finally tries to give an explanation, though Verlin is still hurt and upset by the situation. “U-um, Verlin forgive me,” he said in a regretful voice.

“Well, it turns out I was toyed with,” thought Verlin with disappointment. His heart was broken and his trust in others was scratched again.

“I declare love to you because of the punishment of the game... But I actually-” Sofie tried to explain in a stammered voice.

However, Verlin felt unable to accept any explanation at that moment. His confidence had been shaken and he felt devastated by this incident. In silence, Verlin took a deep breath, trying to calm down.

Verlin's heart that had been shattered when falling in love with Rena still left a bit of pain in it. However, right now his heart was completely crushed due to the recent experience.

Verlin shakily deletes Sofie's contact number from her phone, erasing any traces associated with that disappointment and betrayal. He felt that the best thing he could do was to stay away from this painful situation.

As Verlin left the place, the snide laughter of the two men followed in his steps. Their laughter sounded painful in his ears, reminding him of the vulnerability and betrayal he was experiencing.
