Heartbroken Melody
Chapter 4 - Connecting in Distances

As Verlin entered the house and closed the door, he was greeted by his half-brother standing before him in a white hoodie and short skirt.

“Eh, you came home late,” said his half-sister.

“Do you go home with Kayla?” he added.

After hearing that remark, Verlin thought to himself, “He watched me with a surveillance camera, yes.”

“He just got home. Sorry, can I come in?” verlin said softly.

Her half-sister looked at Verlin with a warm smile. “Stop being formal so. I want us to be familiar,” said his half-sister sincerely.

Her half-sister added seriously, “In addition, Big brother is also looking for a friend there. Though in the past Brother was very jolly.”

Verlin nodded slowly, trying to understand his half-sister's words. “I'm sorry, Evi,” Verlin said while maintaining his formal stance. He stepped forward, without caring for Evi who was still standing in front of the door.

“Oh, welcome back.”

Verlin turned towards the voice heard in the next room, and saw his stepmother standing there in neat clothes. Looks like her stepmother is going to go out.

“You're home late. Get ready quickly there,” said the stepmother with a warm smile on her face.

“This may be late due to my work affairs, but today we will go out to eat to celebrate you guys getting into High School, you know?” verlin's stepmother continued in a tone full of excitement.

Verlin felt somewhat surprised at the plan. “I didn't hear that plan at all,” thought Verlin inwardly.

“No, I'm not coming. You are the only ones who leave,” Verlin said firmly, making the two people look sad and disappointed.

After the incident with Kayla, the atmosphere of the Verlin family would deteriorate if Verlin went out with them. Therefore, Verlin decided not to come along. For Verlin, reading books and self-study was much more fun and provided greater satisfaction.

“Do not keep lashing. Dad was also not there because he was transferred to work out of town. We are a family, so we need to get even closer.” Verlin's stepmother said in her hopeful voice, trying to rebuild the warmth in their family.

“Ngambek? I don't feel that way at all,” thought Verlin after hearing her stepmother's remark.

“Sorry, next I will be more careful again," said Verlin while maintaining his formal attitude. After that, he left the two of them, went up to the second floor, and remained silent in the room.

While in the room, Verlin finds peace in his hobby of writing novels. With a calm heart and mind, he immersed himself into the story that was being written. With every word formed on the blank page, Verlin felt a sense of freedom and creativity flowing within him. Through his writing, he can express his feelings, thoughts, and imagination in an infinite way. It provides an opportunity for him to explore new worlds and present the characters that live in his story. In the process of writing it, Verlin feels that he can forget for a moment all the problems and conflicts that occur around him, and he really enjoys this moment as an escape that takes him into the world of his own imagination.

There was no better hobby for him than writing, as it became a path for Verlin who did not have much in his life.

As Verlin opened his tablet to continue writing the novel, he noticed two incoming message notifications.

The first message was a warm response to the novel Wall Magical (Read also my novel this ya😁) that Verlin wrote, “Thank you,” Verlin said with gratitude.

“Next message... hmm, management?” Verlin wondered.

It says that there are publishers interested in adapting the book, and ask to contact them. Verlin read it with mixed feelings. Although he actually felt happy about the opportunity, but it seems that it will bring more busyness and responsibility.

“Let's pretend not to see it,” Verlin said with a slight nervousness, then he turned off his tablet for a while.

In class, when the break arrived, Verlin felt very sleepy because he could not sleep because he kept thinking about the issue of publishing his book. He thought that after lunch, he would immediately take a short nap to rest his mind.

Verlin could not help but be curious. He saw the girl seem so focused on her book, it seemed to be reading something interesting. Maybe it was a novel or a textbook, he thought. He was attracted to the attitude of the girl who seemed so calm and constantly involved with her own world.

“Looks like he also ate alone, like me,” thought Verlin with sympathy.

The girl was named Ellia Eleonora, and she was also famous for the bad rumors in this school. However, Verlin chose not to heed the rumors. For him, it was not important, because he himself also faced similar things.

“Verlin, can I come eat with you?” the voice was heard from a short-haired blonde girl who approached him.

“Who is this girl? I don't seem to remember her name,” thought Verlin.

“Efforts to approach, then drop at the end..The mode is the same as Nana,” thought Verlin, referring to the bad experience she had.

“There is a book I want to read” said Verlin canceled his intention to eat and re-opened the book.

“Eeeh, you closed it, right? Hey let's have a chat!” the girl said with a smile, trying to get Verlin to interact.

Verlin thought about finding the right reason to chase away the short-haired girl. However, after seeing Ellia, he came up with an idea.

“Ellia, I have finished reading this book, so please lend me your book,” Verlin said in a flat voice.

Ellia looked at Verlin with a stern expression as she felt that it was a tool to drive away the short-haired girl.

“Cih, this,” Ellia said while giving her book to Verlin.

“Thank you,” said Verlin while taking the book from Ellia's hand.

Verlin thought that maybe not a single person would be willing to get involved with Ellia Eleonora. Because he was hated because of bad rumors about him. They all judge someone from rumors without knowing the truth or not of the rumors. In his mind, Verlin said, “I don't want to get involved with people like that.” She feels that avoiding relationships with them is the best way to take care of herself.

"Ehh... Haha, this is the first time I've seen Verlin talk to someone... Ahahaha," said the short-haired girl as she immediately went away leaving Verlin. Verlin felt a little awkward with the girl's comment, yet he remained focused on the book he had borrowed from Ellia.

“First time saw me talking to someone yes.” thought Verlin, unknowingly looking at Ellia's face. At that moment, Ellia looked in the opposite direction because she was looking at Verlin.

“If you think about it, it is true. Why did I take action not to get involved with others?” verlin thought about what the short-haired girl said earlier.

“I'm the one who knows the reason the most,” thought Verlin, pondering deeply. He realized that he always kept his distance from others and was reluctant to engage in social relationships.
