Heartbroken Melody
Chapter 5 - Confrontation with Evi

On returning home from school, Verlin and Evi (the step-sister of Verlin) just finished shopping to buy food items ordered by stepmother.

“Wait, let me help one, it must be heavy, right?” exclaimed Evi, could not bear to see her brother carrying both pockets of frisk that is quite large.

“Not necessary. I will get angry by mom if you make you take her, Evi,” said Verlin, still keeping a distance with his stepbrother.

In his mind, Verlin wondered why he had asked Ellia to speak. Why would he do something unusual for her?

“Unlike myself alone,” thought Verlin, pondering his decision.

Then, Ellia suddenly appeared before him as Verlin was thinking about that. He walks busy with his cell phone and carries groceries.

“Uwaah, the reliability runs,” said Evi, giving a cynical comment.

“The smile is weird, wait? Isn't that our school uniform?” evi said with astonishment when he saw Ellia who was also a student at their school.

As Verlin and Ellia passed each other, Ellia narrowed her eyes slightly. Verlin thought, “Should he squint his eyes, is it possible that he is nearsighted?”

Verlin is accidentally caught up in the thought, trying to find an excuse or explanation for Ellia's small act. He was curious as to what was behind the action. Was it just a coincidence or was there some other reason he didn't know about?

“She is a delinquent girl with a creepy look that everyone in school talks about.”, Evi said in a derogatory tone after they passed each other.

“In addition, being a delinquent in this day and age is very bad. No one is cool or admires such a person,” Evi continued with a cynical look.

Hearing her sister's words, Verlin felt angry and wanted to express sharp words in response. However, the memories of his past immediately flashed through his mind, reminding him of the bitter experiences that made him wiser in dealing with situations like this. Verlin chose to hold back his anger and not scold his sister.

“Eh? Whahuh? Brother said something?” evi asked, surprised by Verlin's silent attitude.

Verlin pretended not to hear his words, as if unaffected by his comments. Instead, she sped up her footsteps, leaving Evi increasingly astonished by her brother's suddenly changing demeanor.

“Hey, Brother, why do you think we're both so close?” evi asked with a puzzled look.

“Hah?” Verlin was surprised to hear the question. He stopped from his steps and looked at his sister with mixed feelings.

“Then, you always played with Kayla and never played with me. Hence, as a child, I always bullied you," Evi said honestly, trying to express her feelings that had been hidden.

Hearing that, Verlin said inwardly, “Difference of consciousness in good and bad things. You believed in the rumors, and lied to mom who got me scolded.”

“Did you never think that the actions you did hurt others?” Verlin asked inwardly, compelled to express his resentment and disappointment to his sister.

“All this is wrong sister because of lack of attention to me, you know? But, well..” said Evi in a disappointed tone.

“I understand now! Bad rumors about the big brother are simply not true!” evi said with complete confidence.

“There may be my cool brother would do such a thing!” evi said as he raised both his hands up, revealing his sense of relief.

Hearing that, Verlin tried to maintain composure and committed to not repeating the same mistakes. He spoke inwardly, “Relax, I will not make any more mistakes.”

“I'm the only one who still believes in you!" evi said with a bright smile, showing her unwavering confidence in Verlin.

“Please, don't call me kaka. Things that happened in the past cannot be written off,” Verlin said firmly, affirming that their past cannot be changed.

“Eh?” evi said with surprise at her brother's words.

“Hmm? Mean what? You want me to call you Verlin?” evi said in confusion.

“Sorry, the cold food I brought will melt, so I have to go home first,” Verlin said while giving an excuse to leave.

“Kaka?” evi said, standing frozen when she saw her brother leave her.

At night, as usual, Verlin shut himself in his room. He sat down at his desk, looking at the blank monitor screen in front of him. However, his mind felt chaotic and lacking focus. He kept thinking about his conversation with Ellia earlier, which was so disturbing to him and stopped his thought flow.

“The conversation with Ellia earlier really bothered me more than I imagined,” muttered Verlin with a puzzled look on his face. He felt stalled in continuing his writing, as his mind continued to be sidetracked at the interaction with Ellia.

“And I want to continue my writing..” Verlin pondered in the silence of his room.

“Hm?” verlin said in astonishment when he saw one notification message appear on his computer screen. His eyes focused on the message he had just entered, and curiosity began to tickle his mind.

Verlin opened the email with a thumping heart. The message was sent by someone named Elara Elise, and the subject read “I Support You”. After reading the contents, Verlin felt moved.

The message read, "Your novel has been my savior lately. I'm a very gloomy girl, but I did my best thanks to you. I've always supported you, Author!"

“OH, Elara Elise, who always gives me messages about her impact on my recent novels,”, Verlin said with a sense of wonder when he found out the origin of the message.

“Messages from him always make me feel better because I rarely get messages from readers,” continued Verlin, expressing his gratitude and happiness.

Verlin found it invaluable that readers like Elara Elise were sincerely supportive and had a positive influence on her works. He realized how important interaction with readers was and how it could motivate him to keep writing with passion.

“Thank you, Elara Elise,” reply Verlin with appreciation and hope that his works can continue to provide inspiration and happiness for his readers.

“Alright,” Verlin said as he stretched his body, feeling a new spirit radiating within him. The message from Elara Elise gave her much-needed impetus to continue writing.
