Heartbroken Melody
Chapter 3 - The Unexpected Meeting
Until now bad events continue to haunt Verlin. Even so, he continued to try to live life with great fortitude.
Right now, Verlin was walking on the cold sidewalk. The atmosphere made him regret not wearing gloves to protect his hands from the piercing cold. He shook his head while thinking that such a trivial thing could have quite a noticeable impact.
Suddenly, a girl with long hair and tied up, greeted him kindly, “For Verlin! It was cold today, huh?”
Verlin nodded slowly, trying to remember the girl's name. She was sure her name was Nana, but she forgot her family. Despite that, Verlin did not feel the need to answer the girl's greeting and continued his steps.
In the classroom, Nana keeps trying to get close to Verlin. Every time the break came, he always took Verlin to talk. Verlin felt astonished, “Why is he always looking for an opportunity to talk to me at rest?”
At that time Nana's friends called her with worry. They gave a warning to Nana, “Be careful, Nana. Don't get too close to him. Don't you know the bad rumors about him?”
“That's right you might be tricked or attacked by him!”
Nana tried to calm her friends by saying, “Take it easy. Verlin isn't that kind of person, really! I'm sure he's a good man.”
At night, Verlin's phone rang indicating an incoming message. The message came from Nana. The message is as follows:
“Hey, this weekend come karaokean!”
“Can I invite my friend too?” ask Nana.
Verlin read the message and thought about it for a moment. Karaoke, an activity in a closed room. Verlin felt doubtful, but then thought, “But if any of his friends come along, it might not matter?”
Upon arriving at her destination, Verlin discovers that there are only two men there. They snide and scorn him.
“So, you're the one Nana approached? Nolep, huh? How disgusting!” say one of them.
“Nana? Do you seriously think he's coming?” cut the others in a mocking tone.
“Hahaha, now take out all the items in your bag. You want to have fun” said one of them firmly.
“Hahaha, so silly!” The two of them then laughed in a condescending tone.
Verlin felt cornered and desperate. He felt that there was no way out of this situation. Feeling helpless, Verlin obeyed their request and took all the items out of his bag. The two men seemed happy with what they were doing.
Verlin felt humiliated and devastated. He ponders about his life all along, where he continues to experience betrayal and hardship. In his heart, Verlin began to hate himself for feeling that he had always made the same mistake.
After the incident, Verlin felt increasingly isolated and lonely. His Junior High ended with sadness and emptiness.
As Verlin prepares to go home and retrieve his shoes from the school locker, suddenly a girl greets him.
“Hai Verlin!” greet the girl cheerfully.
Verlin recognized his voice. It was Kayla Melly, the girl who had ruined her life and made her suffer.
“During the meeting!” kayla cried enthusiastically. “Hey, let's go home together!”
Verlin was confused by Kayla's attitude. “When he never wanted to talk to me while we were still in Junior High, but why now suddenly he..”.
But for some reason, Verlin notes that all the girls who have betrayed him in the past, including Kayla, are now into the same High School as him. This made Verlin feel suspicious and wary of them.
“Somehow is the cause, but it seems I better not get involved with them,” thought Verlin. “They have no business with my life and my future.”
“Ah...” Kayla said as Verlin passed by without saying a sentence to her.
Verlin decides to keep his distance from them and focus on his own life journey. He did not want to repeat the bitter experience he had in the past.
Verlin felt squeezed into an uncomfortable situation as Kayla kept following him home and continued to babble. Although Verlin tries to keep his distance, Kayla keeps talking and tries to be his friend.
“By the way, you're now getting grim, huh?” kayla said as she continued her chatter. “Oh yes, you don't have any friends, so I guess what can make.”
Hearing Kayla's rant, Verlin felt increasingly eager to rush into her home. She was offended by Kayla's words that seemed to insult and disparage her.
“Then, I don't mind being your friend,” Kayla said in a relaxed tone. However, his words made Verlin even more offended. He felt Kayla was just using him because Verlin had no friends.
“I feel like a lot has happened, but you better not think about it!” kayla said with a little trenchant.
“That same time I thought you were pushing me,” Kayla said without covering up her suspicions.
Verlin inwardly thought, “Different perceptions huh? Is the school life I saw different from the school life Kayla saw?”
“There are many bad rumors about you circulating, but I don't believe it!” kayla said firmly.
"Because I believe in you" Kayla added.
Verlin felt confused, “Why new now?” thought in the heart.
“Don't just be quiet, let's do something silly like before!” kayla said with passion.
“Napa..” Verlin said, still swaying between his trust and doubt.
“Hm?” kayla asked, curious about Verlin's reaction.
Verlin finally expressed his confusion, “Why new now?”
Kayla looked at Verlin seriously, then smiled gently. “Ahh, are you angry that I have never spoken to you before?” kayla said in a clear tone.
Kayla looked at Verlin empathetically, “And also, I apologize for the incident back then. Back then.. I felt scared and didn't know how to face you.”.
“But now, I was thinking of changing upon entering SMA! I want to take out all my courage and open a new page.”.
“So so... it is also the same as that,” thought Verlin in heart, remembering the previous events.
“For me..” Kayla was about to continue her words, but Verlin immediately cut her off with a stern expression, “Sorry, please don't get in touch with me anymore.”
Verlin's words made the atmosphere tense. Kayla's face looked confused and surprised.
“Eh? Don't you have any more contact with you? Wh why? Don't you like me, Verlin?” kayla said in confusion, holding Verlin's wrist.
Verlin looked at Kayla with a regretful expression, “Sorry, I was wrong.”
Kayla asserts, “Hey, don't say anything strange.”
Verlin again repeated the request to stop connecting with him while bowing, “Please, stop connecting with me.”
“For whatever reason, I'm really sorry,” Verlin said in a tone of regret.
Kayla looks at Verlin sadly, Verlin says “When now you say trust me, it's too late.”
“Eh? Verlin wait,” Kayla said in a soft voice, hoping that Verlin would hear it. However, Verlin paid him no heed and quickly walked into the house, leaving Kayla alone outside with a wounded heart.
