About a week after the party ended, Shane Casson received a call from Blake. Lee Auction House has successfully promoted Spring Auction, their main event of the year, which is scheduled to take place on April 18.
Spring and Autumn Auctions are the most important auctions at auction houses, including Sotheby's, Christie's, and Hong Kong's Hanging, among others. This is a good time for collectors.
Each auction had one full lot; this time, the entire lot of the Lee Auction House was a bronze statue of Shane Casson's Perseus and Medusa.
The appearance of this statue caused an uproar in the world of European collections. Cherini, the craft mogul, did not produce much work. After nearly 500 years of natural and human disasters, only a few of its huge bronze statues remain to be created.
Cherini's work is no less significant in the field of sculpture than the Mona Lisa in painting. Especially in the late 19th century, the statue was lost, and its legendary status increased when it was rediscovered.
The Blake family certainly invited Shane Casson to attend the auction, which was held at a five-star hotel in Ottawa. The local government uses a special police unit to help with security, making everything look grand and formal.
Before the auction began, all the auction items were on display in the exhibition hall, and Shane Casson took a look with Blake.
Forty-eight works of art were auctioned, including calligraphy, woodcarving, bronze sculpture, ceramics, porcelain, furniture, gold and silver jewelry, and other antiques, making the collection even more complete.
Among the items, the greatest attention was of course on the bronze statue of "Perseus with the Head of Medusa". A group of old men with thick glasses surrounded him, each holding a magnifying glass and staring at the statue as if trying to put it into their eyes.
When Shane Casson took a look, he saw another painting by Picasso called "The Head of a Woman". She studied it closely and felt it resembled a graffiti she once made in kindergarten and was much uglier than her "The Tambourine Woman.
This gave him a little confidence. He felt that as long as he had "The Head of a Woman", the price of "The Tambourine Woman" would not be low.
As the saying goes, not because people do not recognize the value of goods, but because they do not compare them. Comparing his paintings to others is still a good idea.
If Picasso's painting was something Shane Casson couldn't appreciate, the next painting he saw drove him crazy - called "Hydrogenated Calcium". The painting consists of colorful circular patterns arranged neatly on canvas.
"Is this item also a work of art to be auctioned off?" Shane Casson asked Blake a skeptic.
Blake shrugged his shoulders gracefully and replied, "You're right, yes, it's an auctioned piece of art."
Shane Casson didn't want to show his ignorance in public, but couldn't bear to not shake his head and say, "If it's not a crazy God, then the collectors are crazy!"
Shane Casson doesn't want to say much. If contemporary art is drawing circles on canvas, it prefers to appreciate Chinese natural landscape painting, which is true art!
After taking a glance, Shane Casson was ready to leave but suddenly felt a tremor in his heart as he passed by a statue.
This was a feeling he had never experienced before; if it were to be described, it was a trembling excitement within his soul. Under this feeling, Shane Casson stopped and looked at the statue next to him.
The statue was shaped like an apple, the size of an adult fist. The same material needs to be explained, resembling a block of wax but more murky, with a dull grayish yellow color and not too pleasing to the eye.
Blake, a shrewd businessman, saw Shane Casson stop to look at the apple sculpture and asked, "Is there anything that interests you? This is a nice little thing. According to carbon-14 analysis, the statue dates back to the 18th century and is an original antique."
For some reason, this thing has a strong attraction for Shane Casson. It captivated the heart of his sea god.
However, Shane Casson did not want to express his thoughts, so he made fun of it and said, "This is also an antique? Oh my God, I feel too much today - no, I should say, I learned too much today."
Blake smiled cheerfully and said, "Come on, Shane, your eyes have already told me about your true thoughts. You want to have it. You have good eyes. Do not judge this small item by its appearance alone. Its value lies in its identity. Do you know what this was made of? Ambre!"
The true origin of the ambre remains a mystery to this day. Modern Western scientists have analyzed it and concluded that it is only the remains of a whale's intestinal blockage. However, this spice was considered a treasure in ancient times in the East and West.
After glancing a few more times at the apple statue, Shane prepared to enter the auction. After sitting down, Blake introduced him to a middle-aged man with gold-framed glasses named Allen Brendon, who introduced himself as a finansier.
The first auction began at exactly 10 a.m., and the first item to be auctioned was a modern work of art "Calcium Hydride," that did not interest Shane Casson.
However, to Shane Casson's surprise, the painting he considered worthless sold for a high price of 2.4 million Canadian dollars!
"Is my art appreciation ability so bad?" Shane Casson was feeling a little down.
On the other hand, Allen Brendon who was next to him was emotionless not a bitch. He clenched his teeth and said, "A blank tooth! Are these people crazy? It's just a piece of trash! A piece of cloth that was supposed to be sent to hell! They are willing to spend 2.4 million to buy it! Everything is bullshit!"
Shane Casson looked at Allen Brendon in awe. Does this man hold a grudge against the rich?
