DAPHNE

"So you're Daphne?" this pointy-legged guy with a buzz cut haircut next to me is talking.

"Y-yes, and you..William?" I asked him back with nervousness.

William nodded his head while tilting the corner of his lips, smiling a grin at me. My feelings have turned awful.

I hate being in a situation like this. I shouldn't have come here. But it would hurt Hadley's feelings. She is the closest cousin to me. If I wasn't there, Hadley would have been nagging me all year.

It's been a long time since I've interacted with a man and it feels so awkward. The last time I dated was about 2 years ago. After that it was no longer because I chose to enjoy my own time. Long enough, right?

No wonder Harper's extended family members called me a spinster. What's wrong with being 25 years old and not married? He has not yet got his soul mate. Should it be forced if the candidate is not available?

"Would you dance with me?" tawar William's. "I heard from Grandpa, you're very good at dancing!"

Degh...

Gosh, what secrets have Grandpa leaked to this man. I just wanted to subtly refuse by saying that I can't dance. He already has his US card.

"Alright, come!" I had to agree.

Seen through the tail of my eyes that glanced at me, Grandfather was standing upright observing the movements of me and William from behind. The old man must have deliberately planned this all from the beginning. It's too bad my fate.

"You are so beautiful, Daphne." praise William whose hand is now perfectly round on my waist.

"**-thank you." I answered him stammeringly.

"I want to know, besides dancing. What else do you like to do in your spare time?" tanyanya on the sidelines of our dance.

"Painting!" sahutku fast. "I love to paint" I said again.

"That's great! You must be good at drawing, huh?"

"Not really. I still need to learn a lot. That's why I took the course." That's a fact. Painting is not a hobby I have loved for a long time. It was only about 3 years ago that I learned it.

"Wow..it looks like you're seriously following him! The sign is no longer a hobby. But just a suggestion from me, you should not continue your drawing course!"

"Why is that?" I raised my head up, looking at him dislike.

"Waste of time! Painting's a boring activity, Daph!" ridicule William.

I started not liking the direction of our conversation.

"That's for you, different from my perception!" sahutku.

William brought his face to me then whispered right in the ear, "Better, you focus on discussing our marriage only! Be my life partner and mother of my children. Sounds more interesting, right?"

Both of William's eyebrows moved up and down with the intention of my nod. Unfortunately I was completely untouchable. I am tickled myself to see his behavior.

"Just think, when you get married, where do you want to go on your honeymoon? What do you want to get dowry? I could have bought you a luxurious mansion with such advanced facilities. We made a lot of rooms because I want at least 5 kids!"

"M-married? Who wants to marry you?"

"Of course you are, Daph! Who else is it?" William pulled out my nose plan which I straightened out rough. This man had already exceeded his limits.

"And you think I'll take it, Will?" reply whistling.

"Why not? I'm handsome, handsome, rich, and my treasure is in the middle of it! You can't refuse an established man like me. The proof is that your grandfather begged to come to me to match us!" beat William in his haughty style.

God, what dream did I have last night so I have to meet a person who has a high level of confidence like him. His style is very arrogant. Who does he think he is?

"Sorry William, I'm leaving for a minute."

I immediately threw his hand from my waist and I waltzed away leaving him alone in the ballroom of the dance court.

"Hey, Daphne!! Where are you going?!!"

I ignored William's call calling my name from behind. Leave it! I don't care about a bad guy like him. He's a real bitch.

Is that kind of low-quality guy that Grandpa would match me with? Very rude Grandpa.

Suddenly as I walked, my steps came to a halt when I saw my cousin Ashlyn seeming to be in a fuss with someone.

Byurr....

Ashlyn splashed a glass of orange juice on the man wearing a white coat, allegedly a waiter, right in front of her face. Not only that, Ashlyn also spilled a plate of bolognese paste on her shirt.

Can't stand Ashlyn's reckless behavior, I was forced to approach and try to break up the commotion.

"Ashlyn...what are you doing?!"

"Of course I'll interfere, because you've made a scene at Hadley's reception! Stop this Ash.Don't embarrass our family! Hadley would be sad to see the party fall apart!" I'm advising him carefully, hoping Ashlyn will listen.

"Don't try to set me up! You don't know if this man-servant in front of me has miserably damaged my beautiful dress!" ashlyn.

"Destroyed how? Your dress looks fine, Ash!" from top to bottom, there was nothing wrong with the red dress.

"She stepped on the tail of my dress to the point of tearing, look at this!" Ashlyn pointed at the bottom of her dress.

It was ripped, but it was just a little. A glance will not be visible. But why should Ashlyn be as angry as a doormat?

"Just forget Ash, the tearing is pretty minor. Seen from afar will not be seen." it seems that Ashlyn showed a slight overreaction. He shouldn't have embarrassed the man.

Now I turned to look at the servant whose position was sitting down. I stretched out my hand to help him get up.

"Listen to the waiter.your apology will have no effect! My favorite dress is still broken. I want some compensation!" ashlyn did not give up.

Huft...

Just released from William, now I have to face Ashlyn who is on a rampage.

"Let me get the restitution, Ash! Just let it go. You can re-assemble with the others!" I said to Ashlyn.

Afterwards, I pulled the servant man towards the corner area. Keep him away from the attention of the invited guests.

"Hey, you're okay, right?" I took out my handkerchief from inside the clutch.

"No, I'm fine." she replied with a flat face. He must still be devastated by Ashlyn's humiliation earlier.

"Here, you just use my handkerchief to clean your face!" I handed her my handkerchief.

"It's okay?" tanyanya awkward. This man must be confused as to why I was suddenly nice to him.

"Hmm.take it. I don't matter. Still got a lot at home" I smiled back.

"Thank you."

"Together."

Silence hung between us for a moment because he was still busy cleaning his clothes from the red sauce and also his hair that was wet from the juice.

"Sorry yes.you must be subjected to the tantrums of my cousin," I deliberately opened my voice to break this silence.

"No need to apologize, it's not your fault. After all, a little guy like me is used to having such unpleasant things."

Ashlyn's doing it, but why am I feeling bad myself? It's so sorry for him.

"Did you bring a change of clothes?"

"No. I came here directly wearing these clothes" he said.

"Hmm..how about I lend you my brother's shirt?" offered her. "My brother always keeps a clean supply of clothes in the car. If you want, I can get it."

The man looked at me. His gaze was as intense as the eyes of an eagle. His jaw looked so firm and sharp. The thin hair on his face made this man look even more charming.

One thing I just realized, this guy is really handsome. His good looks exceeded the average.

He asked, "Why are you so good to me?"

"And why should I be evil to you?" I returned to reply.

Suddenly the corner of his lips lifted into a thin smile. "What's your name?" ask again.

"Daphne." I poked my hand forward to shake hands with her. "If you? What's name?"

"Decs. My name is Decs."

"Hi Deck!! It's good to meet you!" sapaku friendly.

"Not Deck.but D-E-C-S," he spelled the letters of his name one by one.

"Sorry, wrong call!" I scratched the nape of my neck that was not itchy.

"What's wrong. Nice to meet you too, Daphne..."
