Hendrik sat staring at the photographs taken by officers in the hotel room where the victim was found. The condition of the room was a mess. Plates broke, food was scattered on the floor, as there had been an exciting struggle there. Something's not right.
He then turned back the CCTV footage. Everything Vania said was evidenced by the tape. Vania was seen in the lobby and met someone, Barli. The conversation between the two did not seem to go smoothly. Several times Barli was seen pointing at Vania. Before long, Barli leaves the hotel and Vania gets back into the elevator. Love triangle? Hendrik guessed in his heart.
“Arman, is this true all the CCTV footage on that night?” Hendrik's forehead creased, his eyes fixed on the screen, as his hands moved the cursor.
“Yes, Mr. Hendrik. That's it all.”
“Why is there no recording in the front hallway of the room that the victim rented?”
Arman, Hendrik's co-worker pulled up a chair, closing in on Hendrik's side. His face turned serious. He said "the CCTV camera at the place was damaged moments after the victim checked in.”
Hendrik swept his face with both of his big hands. This case is not as simple as it seems. “It was definitely no coincidence,” murmured.
“That's it and strangely they don't even bother to fix it right away" Arman said.
“I have to speak to the security guard myself there.” Hendrik stood up and grabbed the key.
Arriving at the hotel, Hendrik's suspicions grew when the receptionist there said that the security guard on duty on the night of the incident suddenly resigned from work within a day.
Hendrik then tried to contact the phone and the security guard's last address, in vain! The person he was looking for disappeared without a trace. Hendrik berated himself who was a step late.
Meanwhile, Vania spends her first night in the Police Headquarters prison. The cell he occupied alone was very small, its size did not even reach half of the bathroom in his own home. He slept with a thin foam mattress on the floor that smelled no longer. The air in the room felt stuffy and hot. There is no window at all. The sound of mosquitoes buzzing in his ears all night and savagely attacked the skin of Vania. He could not close his eyes the slightest thing.
“You should eat. Your examination is still very long. Your case is no joke. The killing! Murder of one of the richest men in the country anyway.”
A policewoman stuck a tray full of food on him. Vania just doesn't like the officer. He talks too much about unimportant things.
Vania was exhausted and starving, but let alone swallowing food, touched her she was powerless. Once you see, the food will not be able to arouse anyone's taste. The rice was hard and cold, the side dish was only a piece of tempeh, served with a bowl of turbid water with a shred of vegetables floating on it. Vania put her food into the corner, choosing to enjoy the sound of rumbling in her stomach.
How long will he be in this place? Vania looked at the dull, yellow-stained prison ceiling of water seepage. He expects to remain in the prison at least until the trial is held and after that I don't know what will happen later. He did not understand why he ended up behind these cold bars.
Vania feels her life has been cursed. Whenever he thought happiness was finally coming, there was always misfortune, ambushing him suddenly, without warning. Julian, now Johan. And now it's much worse than before. One life has been lost, forcibly stirred. Vania doesn't know how she's going to get on with her life.
Lived on? A life? Vania no longer felt herself alive. Being cooped up in a cramped room like this, made him even worse. Will death be worse than this?
Daddy, tell me what is death? Daddy, come back to me and tell me that this is all a hoax, just a prank! Daddy, you're gonna come out from behind that iron door, smile as you normally would, and hug me, take me away, and explain to all of them there that this is all a mistake. That you didn't die. You're still alive! Vania screamed in her heart.
The next day, his mother came and brought him her favorite meal. Vania felt overwhelmed and at the same time felt amused with herself because she unceasingly devoured all the food provided for her. His stomach is too honest. His heart may be screaming to die, but his body has its own instincts.
Vania turned sadly to her mother who now looked frail and tired, as if only overnight she had grown a dozen years old. "Ma, how is Aileen?” ask Vania. He was worried about his daughter's condition.
“He is fine. You don't worry, even if the body is weak, the child's mentality is strong. Same as you.” His mother tried to smile while holding Vania's hand. “I deliberately stole the time to come here while she was busy to school."
“Mama don't come here anymore. Back and forth from home to here, it was exhausting. Mama must be strong enough to take care of Aileen. If anything, call Avan immediately. Anyway he is his father.”
“Good, Honey. You too, strengthen your heart. I'm sure they'll find the killer soon and you'll be free. Has Avan arrived yet? I hope he helps you too. At least you need a good lawyer.”
Vania bit her lip. The avan! He growled, the man must have known himself to be a suspect but even if he never showed his face here. What could he expect from Avan? He was always like this. There was never a time when it was needed.
“Mama's right, I need a lawyer. Let me think first, who can help me? He must be someone who can sincerely trust me.”
“Did not one of your friends become a lawyer? I'm sorry, honey. I'm totally stupid about this. I don't know how to help you.”
Her mother began to cry sadly. Vania squeezed her mother's hand gently. He regretted having to make the woman he loved suffer.
Buddies. Vania thinks of the names of friends she once knew and is soon struck by harsh reality. During this lifetime, was there someone she could call a friend? Those at his side were only people with their own interests. How else would you like? He himself never believed in a true friend. They only come closer when they are successful or when they want something. Who would want to help him now? Let alone helping, once they all knew he was a murder suspect, they would definitely run as far as possible.
“Take it easy, Ma. Everything's gonna be okay. I will definitely be able to find a good lawyer.”
After her mother's visit ends, Vania feels she has found new strength to survive. She had to be free for Aileen, Mama, and herself. Sadness over Johan's sudden death should not drag on.
