Xian Fa relaxed his shoulders, trying to be indifferent to their attitude. He then began to busy himself by pretending to choose merchandise from the merchant. Some simple sewn grass shoes and sandals. But it contains a pretty good art element.
Xian Fa held up one sandal, one pair. He lifted it in both hands and held it.
"Farmers' slippers and villagers are not like this. You're really from Jeiji, right?" ask her in a normal voice. Either classified as friendly or cynical because the tone is so flat without intonation. "You're Jeiji's merchant?"
The merchant was still young, no more than forty years old. Faced quite handsome but a little awkward it feels like he pinched his hair in the style of people around. It was as if the hairstyle was not suitable for the shape of his head. Or maybe this guy hasn't been using that hairstyle for long.
This guy is smiling. "I don't deny it" he said. "Maybe you're interested?"
Xian Fa shook his head. "My shoes are good enough" he raised his right leg. "Rain is still warm."
The merchant nodded. He took another pair of sandals. This model is better and the material is different. It is thicker and looks strong. The merchant presented him to Xian Fa.
"You're interested in this one? Lighter than your shoes. However, sandals remained sandals, no better than shoes," he placed them on the front desk, so that Xian Fa could see more clearly. "You can run faster."
Xian Fa's eyes squinted, he put the two slippers down violently and observed the thicker slippers. "What do you mean run?"
This merchant laughed crisply. "Run with science" he patted the two sandals, polishing them. "This is also what the samurai used."
Xian Fa glanced at the feet of the bodyguards standing behind the merchant. The one on his waist was tucked into a samurai trunk. His eyes narrowed and his gaze was sharp. Then he looked at the merchant again. "You killed yourself."
Silent for a long time.
Several different people of the nation looked at each other intensely. The seven bodyguards continued to stand upright, but their eyes flashed as if they were about to pierce through Xian Fa's body which was also looking coldly at their entourage.
The merchant was still sitting quietly, but only for a short while because he had already risen to his feet. "Let's finish it. Just a minute."
He packed his wares, put the sandals in his bundle. While the table he used to sell was only placed on the side of the road. It didn't seem to belong to him because from inside the building not far from the table was placed, a man appeared who received a thank you from the Jeiji merchant.
Without saying anything, they left led by the merchant. While Xian Fa just followed from behind quietly, not making the slightest sound as well.
Some time passed until they reached far out of the village and arrived in a small, desolate forest. The seven bodyguards then stood in a standby posture behind the merchant who could still smile casually.
"There is nothing to hide anymore" Xian Fa said. "Don't you think I belong to the class of cruel people who only play with murder blindly. If only you were just merchants, from wherever it is, I would have no right to harass."
The eyes of the trader who had narrowed due to the wide smile now opened a little. "Oh, then now you're going to say that you have the right to harass us?"
Xian Fa glanced at their feet. "The sandals were used by the samurai, right?" he said with great emphasis. "Do you think we're that stupid?"
The merchant looked at Xian Fa from top to bottom. Watching the clothes was attentive. "Weird clothes. Hm, is this what is called a swordsman?"
"Your eyes are quite sharp."
They were trapped in a long silence. Just look at each other with caution and suspicion.
"Who are you?" along with the words of this merchant, Xian Fu said. "Who are you?"
The two flinched, as did the guards armed with katanas. Then the merchant's voice sounded first. "We're samurai. Our honor doesn't allow us to act lowly by lying."
"Good," Xian Fa said. "If you think I'm a swordsman, then think of it as such."
"It seems like there's no reason for us to talk to each other. You already know us as samurai then you must also know what purpose we are trading here," this merchant raised his right arm. And seven guards drew swords.
At that time, Xian Fa did not become nervous because he was about to be mobbed with the notoriously tough samurai. Instead he stared at the swords in their hands attentively. Instantly, his teacher's words remembered in his mind.
Given this, Xian Fa did not want to waste the opportunity. They could have lied. It could be those bandits who deliberately use the name of the samurai to raise the name. Then he needs certainty.
Once stepped, his body had moved quickly turned into a black prowess that was difficult to follow looking at the eyes. Then suddenly there was a stifled shriek and somehow one katana sword between them had changed hands.
"Good sword."
"Fuck up!" the man who had been taken by the sword earlier. "Return!"
The man's face turned red even to his eyes, indicating that his anger was not just pretending. Xian Fa looked attentively and he nodded.
"If you do not lie" he threw the sword back at its owner. "You are really samurai."
"You underestimate us!" yell at one of the others. "How dare he insult us by robbing us of the sword. Go ahead if you have the guts."
"Hmmm!" there was a snort from Xian Fa's nose that was invisible from the outside. "You talk like you have the guts. Go one-on-one if you have the gallantry!"
The faces of the eight people turned red, feeling utterly humiliated by a young man whom they had estimated to be no more than twenty-five years old. Such a clear and deep voice somehow sounded annoying cynical amar.
"Then, keep the attack!" squealed to the man who had challenged Xian Fa's guts. He has come forward with regular and steady steps.
Moving right and left, trying to confuse Xian Fa's gaze. Secretly this young man became amazed because if it was less alert, surely that person would not be aware once the enemy had been right in sight.
He shrieked loudly, and knew that he was already at the right side of Xian Fa. His sword slashed horizontally from right to left with a semicircular path.
But alas, before the slash rate perfectly formed a semicircle, Xian Fa's hand had already moved to do the stalk first. When the new slash reached a quarter of a circle, the arch sword had already bounced upside down and the holder staggered.
"Cring!!"
Thus a loud voice was issued along with sparks when the katana collided with Xian Fa's wrist. How shocked everyone was when they saw that the hand was still intact without any blemish. May this young man wear an iron armour.
"Hm.." - Xian Fa. But he did not carry out any further attacks. Instead, he pulled his arm back into the robe and awaited his next attack.
This action was a great humiliation for all the gallant people. If the enemy does not respond to attack, it only indicates if he believes in his own abilities and underestimates the ability of the opponent.
The samurai became angry and advanced again. Two consecutive slashes in the form of a stab followed by a slash to the side with a full rotation.
The two slashes easily avoided Xian Fa by stepping back and bowing his head. Then he jumped to the right when it came to the third attack and cheated upwards when it came to the fourth attack.
"You're losing!" yank of Xian Fa from up there. At that time, the young man's right hand had been stretched out down and was pattered by the samurai, a wind struck. Heavy and sharp, painful.
"Mysk..."
It sounded like a pig being slaughtered when the wind hit the body of the samurai. The body was squeezed down with the breastbone and the spine crushed. The body fell to the ground in a confused state. The body was as if it had been crushed by a rock as big as a buffalo and its entire body was squeezed down. Horrifically.
Xian Fa landed and picked up the katana. He threw it at the merchant who looked pale.
"You are together."
