LEGEND OF SINGARAJA ORIGIN

Once upon a time on the island of Bali, precisely in the Klungkung area lived a King who held the title of Sri Sagening. He has quite a wife. His last wife was Ni Luh Pasek. Ni Luh Pasek comes from Panji Village and is a descendant of Kyai Pasek Gobleg. But unfortunately the fate of Ni Luh Pasek, when she was pregnant, she was subtly banished from the palace, she was married to Kyai Jelantik Bogol by her husband.

His sadness is somewhat diminished thanks to the heartfelt affection of Kyai Jelantik Bogol. After the time came she gave birth to a son named I Gusti Gede Pasekan.

Baby named I Gusti Gede Pasekan increasingly bigger, after adulthood he has a great authority in the city of Gelgel. He is loved by the public and ordinary people.

He is also loved by Kyai Jelantik Bogol like his own biological son. One day, when he was twenty years old, Kyai Jelantik Bogol called him.

“My son,” said Kyai Jelantik Bogol, “Now go you to Den Hill in Panji area.”

“Why should I go there, Dad?”

“My son, that's your mother's birthplace.”

“Alright, Father. I'll go there.”

Before leaving, Kyai Jelantik Bogol said to his son, “I Gusti, bring these two lucky weapons, namely a kris named Ki Baru Semang and a spear named Ki Tunjung Tutur. Hopefully you will be safe.”

“Good, Dad!”

On the way to Den Hill, I Gusti Gede Pasekan accompanied by forty people under the leadership of Ki Dumpiung and Ki Kadosot.

After four days of walking, they came to a place called the Menyan Stone. There they spend the night. That night I Gusti Gede Pasekan and his mother were closely guarded by his attendants in turns.

At midnight, suddenly came the magical creatures of the forest inhabitants. I Gusti Gede Pasekan was easily lifted on the shoulders of the supernatural creature so that he could see the scenery off the sea and land that lay in front of him. As he looked to the east and northwest, he saw a faraway island. While when he looked towards the south, the view was blocked by the mountain. After the magical creature disappeared, he heard a whisper.

“I Gusti, actually the area you just saw will be your territory.”

I Gusti Gede Pasekan was very surprised to hear the supernatural voice. But he also felt happy, was not the voice a sign that at some point he would get a noble position, become the ruler of a large enough area.

Indeed, to achieve glory people have to go through various difficulties first.

He told his mother what he had heard to her.

Her mother encouraged her to continue traveling. The next day I Gusti Gede Pasekan continued the journey filled with obstacles. Although this journey was difficult and far away, they finally managed to reach their destination safely.

One day while he was in his mother's village, an event occurred. There's a Bugis boat stranded on Panimbangan beach. At first the Bugis asked the fishermen for help there, but they did not manage to free the boat that ran aground.

Nahkoda Bugis boat was desperate, but the elders of the fishing village came to approach him.

“Only one can help Mr.”

“A young man, yet a powerful and authoritative boat.” replied the village elder.

“What's the name?”

“I Gusti Gede Paste!”

The next day the Bugis came to I Gusti Gede Pasekan. He said, “We are expecting Master's help. If you manage to lift your boat, some of the contents of the boat will be handed over to the Master as a reward.”

“If it is indeed a promise Sir, I will try to lift the aground boat,” replied I Gusti Gede Pasekan. To release the big boat that ran aground, I Gusti Gede Pasekan issued two heirloom weapons Kyai Jelantik Bogol heritage.

He focused his mind. Soon two subtle creatures emerged from the two heirloom weapons.

“Master what should I do?”

“Help me drag that aground boat out to sea!”

“Good Sir!”

With the help of two subtle creatures, he managed to drag the boat easily.

Other people clearly unable to see the presence of the subtle creature, they only saw I Gusti Gede Pasekan moving his hands pointed towards the boat.

Because of his pleasure, the Bugis man also kept his promise. Among the gifts given were two large gongs. Because I Gusti is now a rich man, he is called I Gusti Panji Sakti.

Since that incident, the power of I Gusti Panji Sakti, began to expand and spread everywhere. He also began to establish a new Kingdom in the Den Hill area.

About the middle of the 17th century the capital of the Kingdom was called Sukasada.

The more the day the Kingdom was expanding and developing and then the new Kingdom was established. It is located slightly north of the city of Sukasada. Before being made a city, the area was overgrown with bulleng trees. Therefore, the center of the new kingdom was called Buleleng. Buleleng is the name of a tree whose fruit is favored by knee birds. At the center of the new kingdom was erected a magnificent palace, which was named Singaraja.

The name indicates that the occupant was a King who was like a mighty gallant lion. This is because I Gusti Panji Sakti is indeed known as a powerful and valiant figure. If there are hordes of pirates or robbers who messed up, the King also advanced to the battlefield with his soldiers, because it is appropriate if the palace is called Singaraja.

Some also say that Singaraja means “ stopover place raja”?. That said, when his palace was still in Sukasada, the king often stopped there. Thus, the word Singaraja comes from the word Singgah Raja.

The legend of the origin of the city of Buleleng and Singaraja city is believed to be the inhabitants of Bali really never happened.

Panji Sakti's mother came from the Sudra caste, which is a low-ranking member of the Hindu-Bali society. This is very interesting, because someone who comes from a low class can be a person who is high and noble because of the struggle and hard efforts to achieve goals.
