Mercenary Systems: The Eternal Life

Mercenary Systems: The Eternal Life
Chapter 11 Somehow, Success

The one who became the head of this group of mercenaries did indeed use the legs as the main fighting force, while the others actually relied on their respective weapons.

I just put up the fighting horses, in survival mode. It seems that they do have a lot of fighting experience. Though I planned to counterattack by giving a shield when the opportunity came, but they did not give me even a chance.

Some attack from the front, while others attack from the other direction. The one who attacked from the front was deftly pulling himself out of the reach of my shield. When I tried to swing the noise horizontally, twisting the body, it gave them a big gap.

They, of course, did not let the gap slip.

Several times I received fatal attacks, but none of those attacks were even able to make my stance falter. As if I was an impregnable fortress, my horses in battle remained stable.

It is not due to my body's endurance that I can stand stably from various dangerous attacks, but rather the effects of Sacred Boots and Sacred Greaves, perhaps.

"What.. a-is he a monster?!"

A few minutes had passed since they attacked me. In this case, they are the ones who are exhausted from continuing to attack with all their might. Me? Not a single drop of sweat appeared on the pores of my skin.

It's totally beyond belief. Although I am in good shape so far, the Full Paladin Armory has had quite a number of scratches, though not deep. And, of course, I wasn't hurt at all. Several times there was an attack on the head that made me dizzy, but thanks to the natural regeneration power of my body that had been strengthened, I was able to regain stability quickly.

If it continues like this, I feel confident to be able to defeat them. The problem was that the time it would take should be quite a while, while the other mercenaries might soon arrive here.

How am I supposed to beat them besides exhausting them?

"Damn you! YO!!!"

Along with his shout, one mercenary swung his greatsword from top to bottom at me, from the front.

That's the opportunity I've been waiting for.

The right leg moves backwards two steps, making my body face to the right, while the shield remains forward-facing. As soon as the great sword struck the shield, I slightly allowed the energy of the impulse to push me backwards, slightly bending the knee of my right leg. Like water, I harness that energy to give the opponent a strong boost.

OH, BAAMM!!!

"Ughh! AWAAAH!!!"

[Defeat at least 5 mercenaries (40 Quest Points) - 20% completed]

The man who just attacked me was really pushed far away. He who was lying down after smearing old things in a dark alley, did not get back up. At least, maybe he's unconscious.

"Suckers. You're a coward, pretending you can't attack him!"

"Be careful, you guys!"

I want to laugh. Said coward? Aren't they cowards, gnawing at someone as inexperienced as me? Before I could respond, a voice sounded from the turn of the road not so far from here.

"You guys, hang in!" yell at one of them.

They're, maybe, about 20 people? Or maybe even more? I don't have time to pay attention to them, let alone count one by one. I might end up being held captive if I don't hurry to get out of here.

Damnit. What am I supposed to do?

I might be able to escape right away, but the people surrounding me would not let me off easily, let alone their morale seem to have increased due to the arrival of reinforcements.

There was indeed no way but to defeat them first, before escaping.

In an urgent situation, maybe because I did not feel panic, I still had time to open the Shop feature. I should have been able to defeat the people around just by using the shield in their exhausted state, but it would have taken quite a while. I must have offensive weapons.

[You bought a Light Metal Spear for 10 Quest Points. Goods have been sent to Inventory]

I sighed to find that my Quest Points only left 1 more. In fact, to get 12 Quest Points alone is quite difficult, but this is an urgent situation, nothing.

Quickly, I called out the spear that had just been bought. The Light Metal Spear just appeared in the air, which I immediately gripped tightly.

They were surprised, that's for sure. Utilizing their shock, I exerted a great amount of energy to swing the spear horizontally. One person was hit in the chest, three people managed to fend it off using their hands because they did not have time, and two people were hit in the neck. They're all crashing.

Nothing can stop me anymore. So, I hurried away from there.

"STOP THERE, OOY!"

I have entered a dark alley, while those who are mercenary reinforcements have just arrived at the seventh place of the fallen mercenaries.

[Lose at least 5 mercenaries (40 Quest Points) - done!]

***

Days have changed, ever since I managed to get the evidence of the crimes of a slave trader named D'Meatros, I have traveled to a place I do not know, because indeed I do not have a destination. As long as it arrives in a city, it's good.

Getting lost in the middle of nowhere, that's how it is.

Thanks to the System, I am not that difficult to survive, other than having to adapt in a wild environment, and the dangers that can come from anywhere and at any time.

Being in an extreme place for the first time, I did not panic and was depressed, instead there was a feeling of relief in my heart as if something that was restraining me had disappeared completely. It was also caused by the good news from the System. For over a month, I won't face any problems with food even if I keep getting lost in the woods. Perhaps, I will also slowly try to do the hunt to improve my skills.

[Quest Points]: 115

Until now, I released the Full Paladin Armory only when I found a source of water to clean up. Other than that, I continued to wear it, with reason to be on guard.

During this journey anyway, I tried to train myself in the use of spears. Just like how I was constantly wearing heavy armor, the percentage of Heavy Armor Mastery also increased. Although I did not have any skills related to the use of spears, I guessed that it was possible that related skills would form as I practiced.

Whether I had done the puncture or twisted the spear carelessly, what I expected did not materialize.

I have a guess about a skill that can be formed after I unexpectedly obtained the Shield Mastery. The skill should have been formed during the fight against the mercenaries, Although it only used it as a shield, which was sometimes also used offensively, in fact the skill was formed quickly.

Or, could it be that combat skills can be formed when I encounter real combat experience? So far, I have indeed no longer faced any real fight, other than the threat from beasts.

Just by relying on the shield, a black tiger-like savage beast would flee due to its instincts to feel the threat from me, to the point of not having the time to use a spear.

Maybe because I already had Shield Mastery, ideas started popping up in the use of the shield. I think the use of offensive shields does have a wide range, but it is no more deadly than sharp weapons or other weapons that do focus on the offensive. Shields are basically used to protect themselves from attack, so their main use is for defense.

Right now, the sun is soon on its head. Usually I will use this time to find a shady and comfortable place to be a resting place.

Travel alone, of course, there are negative and positive sides. On the negative side, I have to rely on myself in various ways, while the positive side is that I have complete freedom in my every action. When I will rest or continue the journey, it depends on me. No one will express an opinion about what needs to be done at certain times.

Small habits have been formed because of it, was intended to rest. But, my attention was immediately diverted to the sound of a roar not so far from here, there were also other sounds that made me think that maybe there was a fight or something like that.

"Hm. there's no harm in me going there," I murmured slowly, before starting to run through the bushes.

Meanwhile, the place that I was about to go to, was indeed a fight. It was not a fight between humans and humans, but rather a frail-looking woman against a large humanoid who was muscular in dark green and dull. The large figure was very aggressive as it swung its large stone axe, chasing after the woman who seemed to be struggling to cast a spell.
