Mercenary Systems: The Eternal Life
Chapter 29 Letters To Me

After completing two missions, it only added a little to my savings which had indeed been as thin as paper. Here the money is still in the form of coins, so basically I have run out of money before taking the first mission because it was used to rent a room and eat.

With only 3 silver coins earned from the mission of collecting blue sparks and 5 silver coins from the hunt, it could only buy a pair of used clothes and pants.

About the currencies in this world, there are three levels in general: bronze, silver, gold. Each has a tenfold exchange rate comparison with bronze which has the lowest value, and gold is the highest. When I exchanged my clothes from the previous world at Anna's Store, I had 2 gold coins.

At first I did not really understand the size of the selling price of gold coins, which made me think my clothes were valued very cheaply or cheated. Given the time in this world is still far from modern civilization, so I think my clothes are worth selling.

There is not much to prepare for the mission later. My current outfit has only three pairs with his pants, it won't be a problem. About the food, I'll just take it out of the Inventory, as long as it's done in secret. At most I only bought some equipment, such as a knife, a practical tool to light a campfire, and a hamok-like item to make sleeping more comfortable when in the forest.

There's still about two hours left for the people who take on escort missions to gather at the client's place, maybe I'll just go there now. I'm still not sure if the place fits what I mean on the Map.

A large store that sells various types of goods, which on the Map reads Coinfield, there is the place. While waiting, I could look around the inside of the shop, who knows there are good items. Viewed through the Map, the Coinfield building is quite far from where I am today.

"Hm, if Miss Alma is getting a shift, I might say goodbye," I muttered softly as I continued walking towards my destination. I'm going through the Adventurers Union building to get there.

The Adventurers Guild was quite quiet when I entered, precisely on the first floor. At this time, it was natural to be quiet because most adventurers should be carrying out their respective missions. There were only a few who seemed to have just completed the mission, some were still having conversations between adventurers and clients. The United Building can indeed be used as a meeting place for mission purposes, as long as there is still an empty place.

"ah! Mr. Kaellan," Alma waved as soon as she saw my arrival. "It just so happens you're here. Is the Master done getting ready?"

I nodded with a smile. "For a few days, I will travel."

"Yes. I hope, the trip later no problem and survived to the destination. And thank goodness you came here. Just a moment ago, there was someone who handed over a letter addressed to Mr. Kaellan."

"Letter? From whom?"

"The person just handed him the letter," Alma shook her head slowly, before picking up something that was under the table.

In the wrapping section of the letter, my name is written. As the recipient of the letter, Alma certainly did not know the contents. To find out, I opened the wrapper, then read the contents of the letter. I could read it, of course, but the thing that made me frown was the ink used to write dark red.

A little fishy smell, no way, terror letter? But from whom?

In the letter, the sender's name is not written. The contents of the letter asked me about my condition, whether I felt cramped, had nightmares every night, and other things I was feeling recently.

"You have my destiny, then I have your life."

In the last line, I narrowed my eyes because the sender told me to look at the back of the letter. It says "The Soul Eater". Is that some kind of curse? I laughed wryly as I remembered that this world was no longer a reasonable world. Anything can happen when it comes to magic, including curses.

Not long ago, I had indeed made trouble with a bunch of delinquents. But, it happened yesterday afternoon. Things that made me feel uncomfortable have happened since the last day of Valentine's Day celebrations. After all, during that celebration, I was just focusing on dating Bianca.

Is that guy D'Maetros?

As I walked towards Coinfield, I tried to recall the possibility of someone being offended by me without me noticing. Anyway, I dated Bianca for almost a whole week. There could have been someone who felt jealous of me, then because of his cowardice, he cursed me.

There was no way that D'Maetros, who knew me completely, could curse me from afar. In the previous world though, there were things beyond reason that were similar to this. As far as I know, it should require the media of the person to be harmed, as well as curses.

Just when did I lose something? What stuff is missing?

Is it possible that it's something that comes from my body, like hair? Yeah, that guy took my hair out, didn't he? I don't even remember feeling a stalker. The one who is most likely to get hair or something that belongs to me to be the medium of curse is none other than Bianca, but she cannot be the culprit.

"No! That's very unlikely!" I shake my head hard.

Without feeling, I had reached the fork in the road that formed the letter "T", where there was a large building right in the middle. There were a lot of people waiting for departure. They should have been some group of adventurers who would become bodyguards.

All the pairs of eyes of those adventurers who entered into the view area immediately pointed at me. It made my steps slow down unconsciously.

Come to think of it, the adventurers who took on this escort mission were none of them working individually, except for me who was still not an official adventurer. Of course, my solitary appearance was no wonder to be the center of their attention.

"Are you Kaellan?"

The voice came from behind. A tall man with bulging muscles in his body had just stopped walking when it was two steps away from me.

"From your looks, it seems right. You are indeed the Silver Passion Beginner."

He raised his chin and looked at me coldly. "With your greatness as a beginner, try to hinder the journey later, huh?" she whispered softly while pressing one of my shoulders as she continued walking, past me.

"Hm" I stared at the wide back that was getting away in silence. Looks like something will bother me on the way later, I thought.

Compared to me who before being sent to this world, I would probably tremble in fear just from getting a bit of such intimidation. In fact, I will give up immediately, because my reflection on the possibility that will happen to something always makes me stop stepping. But this time it just made me smile.

I shrugged, before going inside the Coinfield building.
