Chapter 28 The Escort Mission

On the same day, I successfully completed the hunting mission. At least I have experience in hunting since traveling to this town with Bianca. Moreover, the hunted animals that are asked for beginners are much easier to do.

"Mr Kaellan was a surprise. You can complete two missions at once in a day. It proves your ability as an adventurer. It's just that, you still have to complete an escort mission or a different type of mission than before to serve as an experience to become an official adventurer. Although I personally admit it, I cannot give preferential treatment for various reasons. I'm sorry for that, sir."

"It's okay. After all, I did intend to take on different missions when I became an official adventurer later."

At the reception desk, incidentally, Alma still gets a shift in working hours. From his face, he looked exhausted. But, he still maintained his sweet smile to provide comfort to the adventurers, or perhaps that was how he was. So far, I haven't seen him show an unsightly look.

After receiving the reward and obtaining confirmation of completion of the hunting mission, I did not immediately take on an escort mission. No need to rush. That night, I went to the store. There, my main goal is to find information. It is very necessary to face various things. To date, I have been severely ill-informed, as was general news. "Hey hey, I heard that the Hailbergs are going to hold a competition."

"Is that right?"

As I walked towards the empty table, I glanced towards the three men who were chatting. After sitting down, I called the waiter to order a drink.

"Do you guys want to follow?"

"I thought, it wouldn't hurt to try. Who knows, I'm lucky, right? Just imagining it makes me excited to marry Miss Margaret soon."

Laughter was heard, not just from the group of people who were beside the table where I ordered drinks, but from various sides throughout this room. Of course, what they laugh about is different.

From what I heard, this Hailberg family belongs to one of the merchant families that have the most wealth in this city. Joan Hailberg, head of the Hailberg Family, wanted a husband who was skilled in fighting for his daughter, Margaret Hailberg. For this reason, a competition will be held next month during the red month.

A few coins were placed on the table after I finished finishing my drink. There is enough information that I have heard, if too much, then I will even forget it. So, I went back to the inn.

Before actually coming out, I found a group of people wearing hooded robes in the corner of the room. From his robe, I felt like I recognized them.

"Hm, maybe they're wearing similar robes" I murmured softly.

The previous store was located not so far from the inn. It only took me half an hour to get there.

"Oh, Mr. Kaellan. Welcome back. What about your first day at work?"

"It went well, I guess. Just to complete one more mission, I can become an official adventurer."

"So fast?"

I chuckled at the surprise of the innkeeper. He was a middle-aged man wearing black and white clothes. Without needing to be asked, he immediately handed over the room key I rented as if it was something that was done every day.

As soon as I got into the room, I dropped my body on the slightly rough mattress. Physically, I don't feel tired, but my mentality needs to be rested.

The sunlight came through the window slit, shining down on my face, lucky that no intruder had stolen the items. Without realizing it, I fell into a deep sleep. I forgot to close the window first. The window does not use glass, so if it is closed, it will cover the entire view because it only uses wood.

"Morning air is refreshing, yes," I said as I propped up my shoulders using both hands at the bottom of the window frame to breathe in the air from outside and see the cloudless blue sky scene.

Flocks of birds are visible, they have it early to live the day.

"Well, for now, I'll have breakfast first."

In the Adventurers Union building, even from the morning it is always filled with people who wear various clothes. Of course, the faces that were seen were new faces. That shows that the profession as an adventurer becomes a popular job.

"Good morning, Mr. Kaellan," Alma smiled sweetly as soon as she saw me who was still walking to the reception desk.

"Yes, good morning. Does Miss Alma have any mission recommendations for escorts?"

"One-way. Incidentally, there are escort missions that are good enough to add a lot of experience in one go. There will be several groups of senior adventurers who will also take the mission as the main bodyguard. Mr. Kaellan actually only needs to follow the escort and help trivial matters, there is no need to fight or risk life."

On the table was a piece of paper containing the details of the escort mission recommended by Alma. The client who submitted the mission was the head of the Hailberg Family, Joan. The rewards are high because they come from the families of the top wealthy merchants. It seems that the Port City of Vorlte will be a travel destination.

It was actually luck for an unofficial adventurer like me.

"Hm, so, the mission's gonna start this afternoon, huh?" I stroked my chin. For most people, a mission that takes a long time requires preparation that cannot be done for a day. But that doesn't apply to me who has the System. Of course I will not rely on the System in ordinary times, it will only play a role when I face an emergency situation. Quest Points are quite difficult to obtain, more valuable than money to me.

That much preparation was basically applicable to the main bodyguards, the senior adventurers who took on this mission. All I needed was to prepare the mentality, food resources, change of clothes, and a few other small things besides weaponry.

As Alma said, I acted as an observer or a maid rather than as a bodyguard.

On the mission paper, there were five groups of adventurers who would escort the trip. The number of adventurers per group was still unknown, but I thought it was a considerable amount. When the journey begins, it is less likely to encounter problems.

After all, I who broke through the forest with Bianca managed to arrive at Lopentine City even though during the journey had to fight against the ferocious beasts. Every now and then, if not lucky, there would be demonic beasts as well. But, for senior adventurers it should not be a big deal. Especially with a large number, this trip is relatively safe.

From Lopentine City to Vorlte Port City would take about two weeks, not so far away from the time it would take me and Bianca to arrive from the opposite direction.

"But, the destination is the Port City of Vorlte, I have a bad premonition."
