Mercenary Systems: The Eternal Life

Mercenary Systems: The Eternal Life
Chapter 2 The Sad One

This is the 5th day since I experienced such an absurd phenomenon, the sun had set a few hours ago. Granules of water fell from the sky, making the air feel bone-freezing.

I do not yet know why I was on the ship, or why I suddenly fell from the sky until I was saved by the pirates. Now I am with the miserable people, becoming slaves to be sold by them to slave traders, nobles, or other customers.

The pirates, each of them wearing rough and unkempt clothes. Of course, these pitiful people in confinement with me were also wearing worse clothes.

The most interesting thing is that the pirates carry various types of sharp and blunt weapons, as well as long-range weapons such as crossbows. Not once have I seen anyone carry a rifle or any other modern weapon. In addition, the ship's design is still fairly primitive, where the ship relies heavily on the strength of the wind drive by using sails. Also, as far as I heard from the conversations of the pirates, some things made my imagination run wild.

Like the existence of demonic beasts, one of the topics that was quite often talked about by them. On this voyage, they turned out to have known the waters in the path that was being passed. That way, they could avoid the places of the demonic beasts that were residing under the surface of the sea water.

I don't know where I fell, but I suspect that I'm no longer on Earth.

Have I been sent to another world? I don't have enough hard evidence yet to convince my guess. Even if I was sent to another world, what was the reason? Was I summoned by some kind of magic that the witches released to fight the Demon King like in the popular stories I have read enough?

It's hard to think of this incident I've experienced to be considered a hero summoning. I am so weak, it would be strange if I was needed to fight a Demon King or similar evil entity. Or, people might expect this existence of mine to protect the world from the threat capable of destroying entire civilizations.

I don't feel any change in me significantly, such as a decent force to fight the Demon King or anything like that. One thing that gives me hope and calms me down.

System of.

Yep. The sudden appearance of the system screen in front of my sight somehow allowed me to act more calmly. It's not that the system integrated with me provides some sort of calm or whatever, but I have hopes of getting stronger.

Strength, in this case it feels like I will need strength to be able to live properly. The situation I was in was supposed to be easier if I had the strength to fight against the pirates, or escape, even to the point of saving these miserable people. The system integrated with me indirectly is able to make me stronger.

One of the features presented by the System is the Shop. I looked around a few times at the items available inside. The goods provided are not only in the form of materials, skills and things that are not tangible also exist. It was not money to be able to purchase items there, but rather Quest Points.

When I looked at the Character Status section screen, my Quest Points were 0. After all, I haven't done anything to earn Quest Points.

About the Status of the Character, the summaries are as follows:

[CHARACTER STATUS]

[Name]: Kaellan (LVL.1)

[Species]: Man

[Talent]: None

[Attribute]: STR(5) INT(1) AGI(3) VIT(10) [Attribute Points]: 0

[Quest Points]: 0

Actually, my name is not Kaellan. When I first saw the Character Status screen, the Name field was still empty, as well as under Attributes that each had a value of 1. I filled out the Name section with a new name, while I had also distributed Attribute Points into each Attribute section with some superficial considerations.

I, who understood the condition of my body, without thinking any further, immediately put more Attribute Points on the VIT aiming to increase the vitality of the body. Unlike the Quest Points, Attribute Points have an initial value of 15, which is labeled as a bonus.

How miserable it is when the vitality of the body is very low because I spend more time in the nest. Even though I knew it wasn't good, it still felt difficult just to step out. For that, as a first step, I think it's good to have a high vitality value. After I distributed the Attribute Points, there was a kind of foreign sensation due to the occurrence of drastic changes in the body. Visually, it didn't change, perhaps, but I became noticeably more energized.

Rained by water droplets, being in a humid place, bone-piercing air, a stuffy smell. It all became noticeably lighter to deal with compared to before the components in Attributes were upgraded. If only my vitality were still very low, I would have been jovial by now.

I don't know what's going on, I think the ship will be anchored soon.

"ANCHOR, PREPARE!"

This is the time I've been waiting for. I mean, the time where I'm going to start acting is finally here. Of course I have a bit of confidence since Attributes increased. Moreover, there is considerable motivation to do this action. During the cruise, I had thought of some plans that I might be able to make.

Quest Points, I really can't wait to get it right away in order to buy the items in the Shop. In any case, the Quest Points were obtained after I successfully completed the currently available Quest.

[QUEST]

[Conquer pirates (40 Quest Points)]

[Lose at least 5 pirates (25 Quest Points)]

[Save at least 1 victim (5 Quest Points per victim)]

[Free yourself (5 Quest Points)]

I'm not sure I can conquer these pirates. After all, the top two Quests required high fighting abilities to fight against around 20-something pirates. To fight just one I wasn't sure if I would still be alive after that. Other than using the battle method, the bottom two Quests still had the possibility of being successfully completed.

It was a pity indeed to leave the top two Quests unresolved. Moreover, I found in the Shop on the Talent section, the lowest price was 20 Quest Points.

I still didn't have Talent when I saw it in Character Status. Of course, discussing Talent included something that excited me to get it. Especially for a talent that is quite affordable if I have sufficient Quest Points, which is a Swordsman that costs 25 Quest Points.

How would it be if I had a talent in Swordsman? Just imagining it makes my blood boil. Moreover, it was said that after I bought the Swordsman, I would get one random move.

I took a long breath.

Just imagining what I'm going to do in a moment makes my heart beat fast. Although I had been a little more confident, it was too much to directly deal with a life-threatening situation.

The ship began making adjustments in order to dock at the dock.

The view next to the ship is a harbor that has little lighting. Because of the night, I couldn't see the harbor any more clearly. But judging from the lighting alone, I can immediately guess that the port is not a big port. Lighting still relies on torches or something.

It didn't take long for the ship to finish docking. I could see some people starting to board the ship as if welcoming the arrival of someone I thought was a captain of the pirates.

"Hm. it is true, there is someone who looks quite good quality," a bloated man, who stroked his beard, arrived in front of the cage where the slaves were, beside him was the Pirate Captain. "In that case, just do a little follow-up examination. After that, I will determine the exact price."

"Good to hear. I hope the good news comes when we're partying. Haha..."

I just sat quietly while observing the bloated man who was wearing more luxurious clothes than the Pirate Captain. Although more luxurious, it is not modern clothing made of fine fabrics, it is still rough, especially since most of the material comes from animal skin that is not very well processed. Most likely the bloated man was a merchant.

The confinement where the slaves were transported using carts, was encouraged by the slave merchant's men.

We were escorted by several people wearing body armor. They looked even scarier than the pirates, especially since the way they moved was so resolute. They also have much better weapons. Could they be soldiers? Does that mean the bloated man wasn't a slave trader? It would be even more complicated if it turned out that the Pirate Captain sold us to a noble, who clearly had tighter security.
