Rain again and rain again. Most of the day Varo stared dumbly at the outside of Grandma Aisah's yard without being able to do anything. Scuffed everywhere but the equivalent of cold air that comes whispering singing sleep to anyone to pull back the blanket and fall asleep soundly.
If now Varo is in his own boarding house, it is certain that from the first second the raindrops fell until three this afternoon he would still curl up from under a thick blanket. But unfortunately Varo can not, other than because it is not good with Grandma Aisah, since dawn Olivia has forced him to wake up to help Mbah Hadi repair the chicken coop.
“You are an accounting child, you can fix the chicken coop in little-”, said Olivia to make Varo dumb.
Idih what's the connection? lamented Varo when forcing yourself to wake up.
“Temen I son of engineering machine can fix the printer kok” continued Olivia again make Varo hastily lift foot help Mbah Hadi in the backyard. That's better than listening to Olivia's weird words.
And after his work was done, Varo could only stand still waiting for the rain to subside. Actually he planned to take Grandma Aisah and Olivia out, but heavy rain made Varo choose to undo his intentions.
“Where are you?” varo asked when Ahmad appeared with two umbrellas in his left hand.
“Fetch Mbak Ayu at the home of Mr. RT, continue to give umbrella to Mbah Hadi”
“Mbah Hadi where?” ask Varo wonder. The feeling since then he had sat quite a long time on the front porch and had not seen the old man pass through the front gate of the house at all.
“Main chess in post ronda” replied Ahmad, his hands raised looking up measuring rainfall. Still heavy, but not as great as earlier which was occasionally accompanied by rumbling and lightning sounds.
“Mas Varo hungry no?”
“Little, why?”
“It just so happened to rain” replied Ahmad did not connect then ran in between the raindrops.
“Ahmad kok umbrella is not used?” yelled Olivia suddenly. Ahmad just laughed amusedly and disappeared from behind the fence. Olivia's head shook her head putting warm tea on the long chair where Varo was sitting.
“Nguap mulu kayak kukusan” scolded Olivia and sat next to Varo, enjoying the cold that hit their skin.
“Grandma has slept?”
“No, again embroider. Grandma told me to come forward to nemenin kamu”
“Understanding grandma if I am lonely here” reply Varo pleasantries.
“Rain-rain gini so inget movie Your Name”
“Japanese anime is yes?”
Olivia peeling. “You ever watch?”
“Entertainment. Forced by Bima” replied Varo. “Bima wibu” he continued to clarify with a serious expression. “But don't tell Bima if I'm the one who told you. Fears fitting tomorrow my neck has been broken slashed with him”
“Weird aja kamu” said Olivia giggling. “From that movie, which scene do you like the most?”
Varo thought for a moment, actually there is nothing that interests him when watching a fantasy romantic genre film, or maybe even all types of films that tell about lovers struggling for love. Varo prefers action or horror films that he thinks are much more realistic than scenes of someone crying to let his love go.
But looking at Olivia's curious expression, Varo finally replied, even though the answer was only the origin of her memory in the movie called Your Name.
“Scene when the girl wakes up in the morning continues to hold this” replied Varo touching his chest. Olivia gawked and laughed and pinched the man's arm until he grimaced in pain.
“That's the scene I like. Yes I like it.”
Olivia shook her head still laughing amusedly. “You yourself like which scene?” ask Varo though he is sure he will not remember the scene that Olivia meant.
“When the characters can feel the presence of each other through the sound of bel” replied Olvia. “I sometimes think when yes I can like me”
“So anime?”
“Bukan” geleng Olivia. “I mean I want to meet your soul mate there is the sound of the bell. Let's like a sign ‘oh this is my soul mate,’ so I don't have to bother finding my soul mate again”
“Kalo so...kring kring” reply Varo pede.
Olivia giggles amusedly. “Kayak school bell.”
Varo laughed then turned to look at the rain, it seemed like the rain would not stop until later tonight.
“The rain is durable nih” murmured Varo slowly.
“Mandi raining yuk?” take Olivia out of the blue.
“Hah?” Varo stared in bewilderment as Oliva stood up and unhesitatingly ran in the rain. “Entar you are sick”
“Ngak papa's. When else can it rain?” olivia shouted from among the rain spots.
Varo stared doubtfully, he did not like the rain too much because the cold felt bone-chilling and Varo hated if his body had to shiver after being exposed to rain water. Actually let alone the rain, go to the bath he was very lazy.
But as soon as he saw Olivia's laughter, Varo became interested in standing with the girl in the rain. Varo then rose to his feet and followed Olivia, they ran around here and there while occasionally stepping on scuffles to dirty each other's clothes.
“Kalo I hurt you who have to take responsibility” shouted Varo.
Olivia nodded then pushed Varo and ran over with a loud laugh as the guy tried to chase after her. The sound of laughter made them look like a child playing in the rain. Free without burden and running to enjoy time together, as if tomorrow could not create a situation like this. They continued to chase around the yard and just stopped near the back garden of Grandma Aisah.
“I'm so tired, take a break” said Olivia with a gasp of breath.
Without a doubt Olivia sat on the wet grass making Varo stunned but then without saying much she went to lie next to Olivia.
Varo always felt his life was so free, he could do anything without anyone daring to interrupt. And this second under the rain Varo also felt free, but freedom this time was much different from what he had felt before. There was no feeling of emptiness or questions arising over what he had just done, his body just moved to follow where the footsteps took him away and the most important thing was that Varo felt very happy. A strange happiness created by feeling tired from running around under heavy rain.
“You like it so much same rain?” varo asked, looking away at Olivia. She seemed to be smiling with her eyes closed, trying to enjoy every drop of rain that fell on her face.
“Rain is like a friend” replied Olivia. “Kalo you cry under the rain, your tears will not look like because it closes the same rain”
“You often cry dong?”
“Kadap”
“Why?”
Olivia took a deep breath. His eyes opened staring at the dark-colored sky. “Because of heartbreak” story calm.
“I used to love someone but I was rejected, I was heartbroken, kept crying in the rain. Very mellow right?”
Varo's memory goes back to Ayu's story the other day. Olivia was rejected even though her letter was never read. Is that the same story Olivia told today? Varo wants to know, really wants to know. But his mouth could not move to ask that.
“When SMA you ever liked someone?” ask Varo a little lead to the question he really wants to ask.
Who was the recipient of Olivia's letter? Varo hopes his question will continue to develop into a clear answer, at least until Varo finds out the boy's name. Varo doesn't like to talk about someone's past, but specifically for Olivia, her dislike slowly turned into an obsession that made her want to know more details about everything related to Olivia.
“Pernah”
“Who?”
Olivia's face turned towards Varo. His eyes looked serious while his lips were smiling small.
“Secret” replied Olivia short.
Varo sighed but still did not give up. “Cowok that you like is what makes you cry?”
Varo dared to swear he was currently not himself in ordinary days, and Dimas will definitely be the one who laughs as wide as possible when he finds out in just a few days that Varo has turned into someone who wants to know a lot about other people.
“He who rejected you?”
“Kalo Yes why?” olivia asked back. His tone sounded a little challenging, making Varo throw an anxious gaze realizing that Olivia was someone who liked to play with the curiosity of his interlocutor.
“I just want to know” reply Varo get up and sit down.
“He never said he refused me” Olivia said.
Varo's face turned confused. “And do you know where she rejected you?”
One of Olivia's shoulders lifted up while her expression looked twice as calm. “Sometimes you can know someone's answer to your question just from his gestures. I do not need to hear the word rejection from him, but I am quite aware that my existence does not mean anything in his life. Because it is sometimes for some cases, body language it is the most honest answer”
“But it could be in your case this body language of the guy you like is precisely inversely proportional to what he really wants to talk about. What if he likes you? Do you not feel the loss of wrong thinking about something that is not exactly the answer?”
Olivia laughed bitterly as she fixed her sitting position facing towards Varo.
“That suggestion is good, but being realistic is much better. I don't want to waste time just to assume something that I actually know for sure emang answer that there is at that time is ‘not want’ or ‘not like.’ Different typesetting but with the same meaning; rejection.”
Silent. Because Varo himself could not find a gap to fight Olivia's argument. Sometimes in a debate, realistically always comes out as a winner. Dream-studded supposition sentences only have a chance to win about zero point zero five percent.
Dreams in a supposition are always wrapped with the word miracle.
Indeed the miracle exists, but it does not continue to work every day, because it must be fair to turn to others. And on his way back to the first person, those days can only be filled with being a realistic person.
“Yes. Lately I've been thinking a lot about her,” nods Olivia honestly. “At first I thought I was mengelupain him. But I was wrong. At that time I accidentally met him in Jakarta and there I just knew my heart was still beating fast when I saw him”
“You....like?”
Olivia shrugs off the unsure sign. “Could be because I like..but, could also be because I hate.”.
Varo was silent, his face turned to look the other way. Johan may be the only guy who's always been around Olivia, but the fact that there's a mysterious guy who's been grabbing the girl's attention for years makes Varo feel defeated.
Right, losing was the right word to describe Varo's current feelings.
From the beginning Varo did not seriously want to approach Olivia, he was just curious, especially after their meeting at the club and Olivia disappeared like swallowed by the earth. But strangely at their second meeting, as time passed by Olivia's attention to her, the curiosity then slowly began to turn into an elusive feeling.
“You never thought to forget him?” ask Varo slowly.
“Entertainment. But failed. And that's probably because I don't have someone who can make me get sidetracked from him.”
Varo cast a doubtful look even though his heart was certain of his words this time. “Kalo me..gimana?”
“Hmm?”
“Kalo I took the role so ‘someone’ how?”
“You sure?” reply Olivia with a trembling voice as it held back the cold. Nodding Varo made his lips smile thinly.
“I'm a bad girl. Later you are heartbroken” said Olivia sounded joking, her lips smile wider looking at the serious expression of Varo.
If a girl as good as you falls into the category of evil, it means I belong to the devil, the inner Varo is shrinking to himself.
Varo's eyes looked straight at Olivia who also cast a questionable look at him. Because it was felt that no one wanted to break Olivia's silence and then wanted to rise to his feet, but suddenly Varo pulled his hand and without permission put his lips on the girl's lips.
1..2.3, the inner Varo counts.
And furthermore Varo could not hide his smile when he felt Olivia's lips move back to kiss him. Varo's hand then pulled Olivia's body slowly into his arms. This was definitely not a rejection, making Varo's heart suddenly excited for no reason.
The kiss makes Varo suddenly want Olivia to always be by his side, to be his, to be someone where Varo can tell his days, and listen to each other's stories.
They kissed for a long time until then Varo distanced his lips when Olivia's hand pressed her chest softly, the girl's face then looked down avoiding the gaze of Varo made Varo laugh amusedly. Olivia buried her head in Varo's chest, not wanting to reveal her reddish-coloured face.
“Your Heart Rate..” whispered Olivia slowly.
“Iya I know, that's why I hug you now. Let you not squirm my face” reply Varo kissed the top of Olivia's head and both smiled small.
...*****...
At four o'clock in the afternoon on the last day of holiday time, Varo is seen carrying two bags of his and Olivia's in the car. He then leaned against the car door while playing his phone, letting Olivia talk longer with Grandma Aisah. Varo's face looked up when he heard the sound of Ahmad's footsteps that appeared complete with a rancid smile.
“Mas Varo want to go home?”
“Iya”
“Back again no?”
“Kalo there is time, why? Afraid of kangen?” goda Varo held an amused smile to see the sad look of Ahmad.
“I actually plan to ngajak Mas Varo watch”
“What watch? In cinema?”
“Bukan” geleng Ahmad seriously. “Sunday tomorrow there is a cockfighting event near the house of Pakde Idris, which is near the rice field. I want to invite Mas Varo to watch it” explained Ahmad kalem then stepped into the house.
Varo bengong for a moment then grumbled softly. “You come see grandma instead invited to watch gambling, in the open area again”
“Mas Varo here to eat at inn.” Ayu appeared carrying a pile of bushels containing meat and chicken opor.
“Aduh mbak, thanks yes. Sorry ngerepotin”
“No papa, not often too right. This is just a regular snack.”
Varo. Since when did lontong become a snack? But carefully he then put the pile of bushels in the car. Varo turned back when he saw Olivia appearing with a reddish face and puffy eyes, a sign that she had just cried.
“Home back be careful, don't race. If there is time again, play here” said Ayu hugged Olivia tightly. The girl nodded but was unable to say anything as she was still trying to hold back her sobs. It took them about twenty minutes until they both got into the car and drove away from Grandma Aisah's house.
“Udah cry?” ask Varo when they're at the red light. Olivia nodded but occasionally still wiped the rest of her tears with a tissue. Varo smiled slightly, his left hand moved to gently pat the top of Olivia's head and then clasped the girl's hand, trying to give the calm that he had never given to anyone other than himself.
“We stopped by to buy flowers” whispered Olivia watered when her crying had completely stopped.
Varo turned his face for a while, he wanted to ask but then only answered with a brief nod. Their car drove along a crowded street, then into a shortcut that crossed the ripening fields, and stopped in front of a large flower shop that read Adinda Florist.
“You wait here” said Olivia as their car parked across the street. Varo did not answer but he instead came down when Olivia had crossed first, let the girl talk to a female employee while she looked at the ranks of flowers placed in a watering bucket.
“This how many sprigs?” varo asked pointing a tiger lily flower to a middle-aged father.
“Ten thousand” replied the father straightforwardly.
“One stalk pak” pinta Varo then handed over the money when the flowers were wrapped in plastic, after which he stepped closer to Olivia. “Buy what flowers?” the whisper slowly made Olivia turn away.
“Lily orens same white lily for Kak Nabila. He was just proposed by Kak Rangga loh yesterday in Semarang” Olivia's story while showing a photo of Rangga's application sent by Johan while in Semarang.
“Dimas what the hell?” varo's forehead is wrinkled when he sees a photo of Dimas wearing Tom's costume from the famous Tom and Jerry cartoon series with Tom's head in his hand while his mouth is open a sign that he is singing loudly.
“Oh it….Kak Nabila likes Tom and Jerry so Dimas is on duty so Tom, all of you make bring the ring” explained Olivia and then take the flower bouquet order that has been completed. When he finished he then took Varo away.
“Why did you buy white lily?” ask Varo to open the conversation. Carefully Olivia put her flowers behind her.
“Kak Nabila likes white lily”
“Kalo lily orensnya?”
“Make you” reply Olivia thrust lily orens flower on Varo. “Romantis right me?”
Varo smiled, took the flower and put it on the dashboard of the car.
“Still”
“Sama-sama” reply Olivia lightly stuck her hand out when the car started speeding. For about ten minutes he lifted the windshield and turned the radio.
“Tau if the white lily means anything?” ask Varo to open the conversation. Olivia shook her head with a naive look.
“Emang any?”
“Graduation and friendship”
“Tau from where? Not exactly you?” reply Olivia kidding. Varo.
“There was a friend of mine who used to work in a flower shop, and I was often told the meaning of every flower he sold. Even the word temen me every birth date it has a flower with its own meaning” explained Varo a little lie. Not exactly a friend, but Varo's ex-girlfriend who works at a flower shop.
“There is a link, try to open the website birth flower by day. Later will appear the same date list of birth flowers.”
Olivia took her phone from the bag and typed the name of the website as Varo had told her. His lips murmured slowly in search of his birth date
“Four April. Red anemone, I love you”
“I love you too” joked Varo makes Olivia laugh.
“Keep your date of birth?”
“One september. Tiger lily”'s
“Kayak this flower huh?” point Olivia at the tiger lily that Varo put next to the flower.
Varo's head nodded then thrust his tiger lily at Olivia.
“I bought this for you”
“Still one september” kekeh Olivia back scrolling her phone screen.
“One september, one september” murmured Olivia. His gaze suddenly froze staring at the birth flower website on September one.
“Please love me.” Olivia's face immediately looked up at Varo seriously, the guy seemed to be smiling thinly but his gaze was not shifted from the highway.
“Should I?” olivia muttered softly and sounded like it was aimed at herself. His eyes stared fixedly at the tiger lily in his arms then glanced at the lily orens above the dashboard of Varo's front car.
Lily orens: hatred and lies.
