Preparation is complete, some camping equipment such as tents, portable chairs and cooking utensils have been completed I pack and I put in a special backpack to climb the mountain. This time the place to go is an ancient site on a hill in the mountainous area of Cianjur.
The trip will be taken by jeep car owned by Erik who is also a friend during college who is now an official researcher from the government and some time ago he invited at once asked for help to participate in the research process for the publication of archaeological journals related to rocks from royal ruins in the place we will go.
There is still a debate among archaeologists about the site named Danger site, some mention coming from the kingdom in 8,000 years ago and some mention more than 10,000 years ago, to this day researchers are still aggressively trying to identify the truth.
“Shean, I'll pick you up now you're ready ya” a new message came in from Erik so I get ready because it will leave at 5 am.
At first only Erik and I were leaving, but Jenny a few days ago forced to come under the pretext of finding new inspiration for the designs she was developing at work, because he is experiencing a setback already this week there has been no original new design that he can make.
I could not refuse his request and Erik agreed, no matter if he wanted to bring 2 or 3 people, most importantly not to interfere during our research process.
“Je.. Come get ready”. My request for him to rush out of the bathroom and immediately prepare his luggage.
“Iya briefly” said from bali bathroom door because almost half an hour he took a shower and has not finished.
Exactly at 5 o'clock Erik came in a range rover in black, and honked the horn several times indicating he had arrived in front of my house.
“Shean.. Long time no see friends!” he asked pleasantries followed by his typical laughter. After talking for a while to release longing with old friends, we continued to leave mumpung still early in the morning.
“Come directly we leave”. As if impatient to get to the destination soon.
Throughout the journey, we chatted because long time did not meet even last year when there was a class reunion event from the Archaeology department and I came to the event while still working as an office-boy, many of my class mates booed me and only Erik cared nothing about it and stood up for me at the time.
This friend of mine is indeed very good at getting along and can quickly get along with anyone, his carefree nature can break the atmosphere. No doubt throughout the journey there is always a topic of conversation.
“As you know, Shean is very difficult to get along with, the habit of him being alone in the library and even having his own lunch in the cafeteria.. If it wasn't me who reprimanded him first it seemed like he wouldn't have any friends during college”. Her story told me about the time I was in college.
It's true, if I was more closed than I am today. Tend to avoid getting along because there is no other interest than reading books about the world Archaeological sites.
Jenny laughed when she heard Erik tell her about me in college, and she was drawn further by asking me things like whether I used to have a boyfriend or how I got along and other things.
Shortly after entering the toll area, we stopped for breakfast in a rest area that looks still very quiet. We buy instant foods like onigiri rice with a sheet of seaweed and warm tea, I choose coffee and bread packaging as my breakfast menu. The three of us sat in the food court area for breakfast and for a moment inhaled the fresh morning air that was not contaminated by the amount of vehicle pollution.
The weather is a little cloudy accompanied by drizzle and strong winds from the west. The coldness crept into the thick jacket I was wearing. I can't hide the cold and drowsiness, because I'm usually still covered and enjoying the beautiful dreams in my room.
We'd better get to the car and continue our journey.
...----------------...
The Danger site was opened in the 70s but was stopped and became an abandoned site until finally in 2004 the site was inaugurated by the government into a cultural reserve. Currently there is a lot of literature that discusses, both books and scientific journals. Even so, local and foreign researchers are still continuing their research and opening little by little the veil that covers the truth of the site.
Including me was curious. Starting from the shape and also the estimated era was far away, the estimated researchers of this site relic from 8000 years ago may be more, obviously I am increasingly interested in researching and finding other clues.
The steep streets of rocks began to feel difficult for the vehicles we use, several times made to bother with large rocks and also wet soil due to drizzle. This time Erik was completely silent without a word of focusing on the road ahead.
“Sial.!” he shouted, avoiding the rock cliffs that he almost dragged.
Jenny hooked her hand to my arm, she felt tense because she was afraid of the road conditions that began to be inhospitable. Several times he hit the window of the car glass because of a sudden blow when it hit the rocks are also slippery.
The car began to enter the ramp about 200 meters long with steep conditions without any side of the road divider, it takes great skill to be able to climb the climb with gravel and wet road conditions. But he did not indicate, Erik continued to gas, and meandered avoiding the hollow road.
The sound of the car engine roar increasingly sounds rough when almost entered at the top of the climb, with Erik carefully set the gas pedal so that the car does not topple because of the slope of 80 degrees of climbs are very dangerous, with the car being very dangerous, just a little wrong, we will fall into the abyss.
Arriving at the top, we stopped at a special area to park the vehicle. Erik was still silently holding the steering wheel, his face was deathly pale without wrinkles.
“Pak Erik okay?” Ask Mr. Yana who is our guide.
“Actually I'm so scared, I swear!” erik said with a frightened face.
Luckily we were able to survive thanks to his expertise driving a large Range rover vehicle that is specifically a vehicle from the office for this rugged terrain.
We went out and rested for a while at the guard post, there were middle-aged mothers peddling fried merchandise as well as coffee and other drinks ready to brew. Take a break to enjoy the cold air with a drizzle that still has no signs of ending.
I ordered a few pieces of fried tempe also tofu wrapped in flour is still warm because it was cooked by the seller, Coffee and also warm tea did not forget I ordered for the four of us.
“Lumayan make an incense stick” I hand over the fry pack to the table at the guard post where we rest.
Erik was constantly chattering about his first experience driving a car to a steep place like this, we listened and laughed with his funny behavior demonstrating the movement when he drove the car turning avoiding the puddle.
Although the road is large enough for one car to pass, but destroyed due to erosion from the cliffs that resulted in muddy soil covering part of the road and make the road slippery in the rain like now.
“It turns out you're good too huh Rik!” praise me for his driving skills that cannot be underestimated.
“Not a champion, Kepaksa's his name. A little mistake can die us all!” he said with laughter from the four of us.
We are here for 2 days for research. We will set up a tent in the research area close to the site, because it is only in that place that is close to the water source and the research site, he said, so there is still about a 30-minute walk down the path to the next hill from the guard post.
