The spiral tower that serves for the place calling for the Adhan is one of the characteristics of this mosque. The architecture of the mosque is relatively simple and there are not many details like those found in mosques in Egypt. The Ibn Tulun Mosque is the second oldest mosque in Egypt after the Amru bin Aas Mosque.

The room of Ibn Tulun Mosque is almost non-constrained and door-leaved, consisting of pillars with curved shapes. The pillar of the mosque has a variety of ornamental carvings and calligraphy. The pulpit for the sermon is on top, much like a stage.
