The Black Scorpion

The Black Scorpion
Ch. 14

Adrienne's heart immediately throbbed pain at the insulting question of her cousin while Aaric's emotions bubbled but only a flat face was displayed.

"He.." said Adrienne floating in the air while bowed.

"I'm her future husband" said Aaric firmly.

Adrienne looked up at Aaric while Bellatrix was a little intimidated but not Bellatrix by name if she could not turn things around.

"I don't see a ring on both of you're fingers. Are you sure you want to play this show?" bellatrix asked with a laugh winning.

"I'm going to propose tonight but you've messed up the surprise I'm going to make" Aaric said.

"Ups sorry then" Bellatrix said without guilt.

"Then excuse us, there is business" Aaric said briefly.

"If you want to know everything about your future wife, you can contact me at any time" Bellatrix said, stressing the word "wife-to-be" while inserting her business card into Aaric's suit pocket.

"I believe in my future wife. Excuse me, we have to go" said Aaric and Bellatrix.

"Don't forget the engagement and wedding invitations" Bellatrix said with a grin.

Aaric and Adrienne passed with Aaric's hands still on Adrienne's waist. As he drove to his car and passed the trash can, Aaric took out Bellatrix's business card and threw it into the trash. Along the way, Adrienne just kept quiet and Aaric also gave the woman time to calm down.

"thank you. Forgive Trix for that kind of behavior" Adrienne said as they stopped as the traffic lights turned red.

"It's okay" said Aaric briefly.

There was no sound in the car anymore. Only silence is disturbed. Arriving home, Aaric asks Adrienne to clean up and prepare to tell the school that the twins will be allowed in the next few days. Thirty minutes later they were ready with a neat casual appearance. Adrienne returns the black card Aaric gave her yesterday while taking the twins to the mall and the two of them re-split the road to the twins.

Arriving at school, many pairs of eyes were looking at the two of them as they got out of the car. Some looked amazed by their compatibility, some also looked envious of their closeness, but unfortunately it was ignored by both of them. Aaric holding Adrienne's hand entered the school environment accompanied by Beatrix's sad gaze from a distance.

As classes were going on, Aaric and Adrienne chose to wait where socialite mothers were waiting. The place is also starting to get crowded because soon their children will go home from school. Aaric realized that the eyes of one of the socialite mothers kept looking flirtatiously at him and Adrienne knew the woman who turned out to be Sabrina. Aaric could feel the fierce gaze of the two women and tried to make the woman who looked at him give up.

He grabs Adrienne's waist affectionately and draws the body closer to her and kisses the woman's temple from the side. All of that did not escape the sight of Sabrina and the woman immediately threw away an annoyed face. Shortly after, the bell rang the lesson mark was over. The children were scattering out in the company of their class teacher. At the sight of Beatrix, Aaric and Adrienne walk up to the twins' classroom teacher.

"Good day, Miss Bebe" said Adrienne politely.

"Jiang, Mrs. Laurent. Can I help you?" beatrix asked with a forced smile and eyes that silently kept glancing towards Aaric.

"I want to tell you for the next few days Abellard and Damien are not going to school because they're sick."

"Oh. Are they okay?" ask Beatrix worried.

"Well if so. Thanks for telling me."

"Then we'll excuse Miss Bebe. Good day."

"Good day."

Beatrix looked at the pair of men and women who were leaving with a sad look.

"If I were by your side, Aaric," Beatrix murmured inwardly.

After finishing with the twins' permission, Aaric's black sports car again split the road. Adrienne had no idea where Aaric was going to take her, but she kept quiet and looked at the traffic through the car window.

An hour later, after breaking through the city's jammed streets, Aaric's car stopped at a famous jewelry store. Adrienne was confused as to what they were going to do there. Aaric clasped Adrienne's hand still dumbstruck in front of the store. Upon entering, they were greeted kindly by the shopkeepers.

"Select the ring you like" Aaric said.

Adrienne looked confused at Aaric's orders without moving a single bit. His mind was still unable to digest the purpose the man had brought him to the store. Seeing the woman's confusion, Aaric held the shoulder of the woman who was looking up at him.

"So you heard that I said I was going to propose to you tonight in front of your cousin right?" ask Aaric.

Adrienne simply nodded without answering.

"In order for your cousin to believe, you must have a ring that proves that you're engaged to me, okay?"

Adrienne was flabbergasted after her brain finished processing what had happened.

"Ta..but does it not trouble you? And this is just a show, right?" ask Adrienne fretting.

"I don't feel bothered and you don't have to be afraid of being tied down. You just have to wear that ring every time you get out of the house, the rest is free whether you want to wear that ring at home or not. I just don't want people to think that I'm playing you after saying I'm going to propose to you, especially that brash-mouthed cousin of yours" Aaric said.

After hearing Aaric's words, Adrienne nodded and began to go to the storefront featuring various types of rings. After fifteen minutes of looking around, Adrienne did not choose anything and from the woman's expression, she said, Aaric knew nothing had caught his attention until he saw a happy twinkle in the woman's eyes when he saw a very simple ring in the corner of the display case. At first glance, the ring is indeed not interesting and is in a corner that is certainly rarely anyone else's lyrics, but Adrienne can capture the beauty of the ring.

Aaric immediately asked the shopkeeper to get the ring that caught Adrienne's attention. Adrienne looked at the ring with a happy twinkle and put the ring on her ring finger. It turned out that the size of the ring was very fitting on his finger. Without saying anything more, Aaric took out the black card that the woman had returned last afternoon and handed it to the cashier. Adrienne took off the ring and asked the guard to wrap it.

After the payment was completed, Aaric stepped over to where Adrienne was waiting for the ring to be wrapped. The shopkeeper handed the ring that had been neatly wrapped to Adrienne and they both walked out of the store.

"You're not wearing the ring?" aaric asked after they were in the car.
