Counter Kill

Chapter 38: Counter Kill

The sword light shone as bright as the stars in the darkness and approached at a blinding speed. From Lorist's point of view, the blade of light made in haste seemed to form a huge net that sealed all of his surroundings.

The figure that rushed towards Lorist was an annoyed junior attacker. His attack was deadly and aimed to take his life, although what the senior assailant said only took his arm.

Lorist gave a cold snort and unsheathed his sword without retreating. The moment Lorist's sword attacked, the countless light sword attacks that flew towards Lorist disappeared without a trace.

"Wha ..." The opponent was caught off guard by Lorist's successful attempt to deflect the blade of light. Not only that, Lorist immediately took the initiative and attacked the attacker without wasting any time. In an instant, the attacker took a defensive stance as he struggled to block Lorist's flurry of attacks.

The opponent tried to use brute force and took advantage of the difference in power between the Gold rank and the Iron rank to break Lorist's stance. However, Lorist's swordsmanship was too unfathomable and managed to suppress the enemy's movements before it could even be unleashed and followed up with unrelenting attacks like waves of floodwater forcing its way through a crack, however small. The constant stream of attacks forced the opponent into a situation where he could only defend without being able to counterattack. Lorist's swing also frequently changed trajectories before landing and led to the attacker's gap, forcing the attacker to gradually move back.

The enemy was sweating everywhere. Had it not been for Lorist's constant pressure not allowing him to catch his breath, he would have already asked for help from his senior apprentice brother long ago. Even while dreaming he could not imagine fighting against someone with swordsmanship was as terrifying as this which made the raw power difference between a Gold rank and an Iron rank non-existent. At this moment, Lorist's performance was nothing like Iron rank at all. The attacker only felt pressured like this when he fought against the other Blademaster senior apprentice brothers.

Behind Lorist, a loud and constant sword sound rang out and stopped. Only Potterfang's disheveled breath and the other attackers' cries of despair could be heard.

"Ugh .. Agh! It hurts .. You're crazy! Ugh ... Very sick ... Junior, how are you? Quickly finish that and come help me! This Silver Rank is really crazy I told you! Ugh .. "The senior attacker was completely injured and groaned in pain.

Potterfang laughed softly before saying, “Come. This is how I keep the Gold rank on the battlefield. I'm taking two of your attacks to avenge one. Three for one if I have to. Let's see who can receive more attacks before fainting .. ”

The senior attacker no longer dared to attack Potterfang's head and only gritted his teeth as he circled around Potterfang while unleashing a light sword attack as he called his junior to help. He even scolded his juniors endlessly as it took him a long time to kill a mere iron rank.

Little did the senior attacker know about the junior tribulation. Hearing that Potterfang was injured, Lorist increased the ferocity of his attack and paid little attention to the technique and forcibly charged towards the opponent's chest. The junior attacker hurriedly retreated a few steps while deflecting a few waves of attacks with a lot of fear in his eyes. Originally, he was happy for Lorist to make an attack on him and thought that he would be able to break Lorist's long sword with his higher ranked Battle Force. Even if the sword did not break, he would still manage to make Lorist suffer a huge loss based on the difference in pure strength.

Previously, the attacker found it difficult to fend off Lorist's swift and careful attacks. Right now, Lorist no longer paid attention to his finesse and techniques and attacked violently. The junior attacker happily brought his sword to meet Lorist only to find that what he expected did not happen and vice versa, he felt a strong surge of power pass through his own sword which caused him to loosen his grip on his weapon. The longsword was knocked out of the hands of the junior invader and he immediately rushed back in fear and somehow still managed to escape death.

Lorist was extremely frustrated. Previously, he had thought his opponent would try hard enough to defeat him given how much he boasted before. But now, what the attacker did was to defend and dodge all over the place with no intention of counterattacking. No matter how great Lorist's swordsmanship was, it wouldn't be of much use against an opponent who didn't dare to take a single one of his attacks.

This will not work, Lorist thought as the junior invader swarmed around the place after picking up his sword like a frightened little bird. I have to find another way to take care of him.

Slowly advancing towards his enemy, Lorist swung his sword in an elegant manner like a peacock dancing under the lights of the surrounding lights to attract the attention of the opponent. Without giving up, he slowly raised his left arm. The twang! The soft sound of spring decompression could be heard as a thin projectile shot out from Lorist's left arm silently towards his target.

The junior attacker let out a cold sweat as Lorist's attack increased. The cries and curses of his senior apprentice brother from afar only added to his anxiety. As he prepared to face the attack from the approaching Lorist, he felt the urge to shout out loud in frustration. It was like the roles of Gold rank and Iron rank had been reversed among them!

Lorist directly leaped towards the junior invader with his sword letting out a loud whizzing sound as the light of the lamp bounced off his cold metal tip. Preparing to avoid the flurry of attacks without any intention of fending off anything, the junior attacker suddenly felt a blinding pain coming from his left leg. He quickly lowered his head to look at his feet only to find that the long thin black arrow had immersed itself into his feet and nailed it to the ground.

Frightened beyond his wits when he saw Lorist's approaching figure, the junior attacker quickly begged for mercy with no results. Lorist's longsword struck his target and broke through the Golden-ranked Battle Force's aura defense with little or no resistance and with the sound of flesh being cut, the longsword dug deeply into the attacker's body.

"You ... Ugh .. shameless ..." eroded the junior attacker with all the energy left in his body while rolling his two eyes.

Not at all ashamed of using the hidden arrow, Lorist said sincerely, “Thank you for the compliment. ”

As Lorist took out his long sword, his dying opponent's body slumped to the ground like a sandbag leaking sand. Lorist turned back and moved towards the grumbling senior assailant and shouted as fresh blood slowly dripped onto the floor from the tip of his sword, creating a red trail behind Lorist's trajectory.

The senior attacker had cut off the inner thigh slash. Although it was not a deadly attack in itself, it sent a wave of pain to the senior attacker and effectively lowered his mobility. The strike caused the senior assailant to stop taking Potterfang's head and the circle around him instead as he waited for his junior-apprentice brother to come back to him. This only worsened the wound because every step he took sent pain to his nerves. It was no wonder that he would grumble and curse from all that suffering.

However, Potterfang did not look to hold well because the blade of his left shoulder and his right lower abdomen looked rather bloody. However, the scar is not as bad as it looks because the wound is not too deep. It was a different story for his right lower abdomen but because the injury was created from a stabbing attack rather than a wound. It would be bad if the strike had broken through one of his internal organs. The senior assailants also sent one light sword attack after another which caused Potterfang to fend off each of them; an action that further intensified the bleeding from his right abdomen.

The senior attacker stopped moving and launched several long-range strikes before looking down at the injury on his thigh. He had already wrapped her in a makeshift bandage made from the fabric of her clothes. But the blood still came out of the bandage. The attacker pulls the bandage lightly and grimaces in pain.

As Lorist slowly approached him, the senior assailant had the impression that his apprentice brother had come. With his head lowered, he complained, “What's wrong with you for taking too long to take care of a mere iron rank? Holy hooch! This shit hurts! That Silver rating is really crazy. Be careful when you attack him because he will take your attack with his body to land a punch on you! Don't fall in love– Ah! Uh! AHHH !!!! "

After raising his head, the senior attacker discovered that the figure approaching him was Lorist and his face paled in an instant. After stammering incomprehensibly for a while, he finally exclaimed, “Why! Why are you ?! W-where is my junior-apprentice sister ?! ”

Lorist pointed back with his sword and said, “He lay on the ground there. He actually paid for his life trying to take my arm. Well, he failed too. Now it's your turn . ”

The footsteps continued nonstop.

"You ... Don't approach ..." said the senior attacker as he pointed his sword towards Lorist and rushed backwards in fear. After hearing of his junior's death, his mind was already in a state of chaos. Lorist's form slowly turned into a demon king in his vision.

A sharp sound echoed throughout the plaza as a long sword floated in the air like a javelin and pierced through the senior assailant's back and reappeared from the front chest. The assailant let out a deafening scream as he smashed into the flowerbed mid-jump before struggling to get up and finally exhaling his last breath. The longsword actually belonged to Potterfang. When he saw that the senior assailant was intending to escape, he threw his long sword thoughtlessly and fell on the ground afterward.

Lorist tapped on the senior assailant's aerial sword and thought that the attacker had managed to escape. He was surprised to find that Potterfang had thrown his own sword and took the senior assailant's life.

"The sword was launched very well. It was really impressive, ”praise Lorist while walking quickly towards Potterfang.

Potterfang let out an unreasonable laugh as he said, “That's nothing special. I was studying again when I was in the military. Even so, I still can't match you. Although we both fought against the Gold rank, You actually appeared unscathed and helped me fend off my enemies while I myself got some injuries and only got killed when the enemy was afraid of escaping by you. ”

Lorist helped Potterfang and carefully placed him on the bench before examining his wound. The slash on the left shoulder blade was not so detrimental, but the seriousness of the puncture on his lower right abdomen could not really be determined under the poor lighting of the street lamp.

Seeing Lorist deeply worried about his injuries, Potterfang felt moved and said weakly, “Nothing. I had already considered that when the sword came to me. There should be no wound on my inside and it will recover after resting for a month or two. I have been injured worse when I was in the military and still manage to survive to this day. ”

Lorist took off his linen t-shirt and used it to wrap around Potterfang's wounds before going to inspect the corpses of the assailants. He returned with two bags of money, two swords and two Gold-ranked War Force badges.

"Surprisingly, these swords are rather common but the badges have different designs compared to those issued by the unions.

Potterfang also nodded his head helplessly, unable to recognize where the badge came from.

The two money bags contained more than 20 gold Ford and 30 plus large silver. Lorist stuffed the gold coins and large silver coins into two different pockets and handed the one containing the gold Ford to Potterfang. "Brother Potterfang, let's split the two bags of coins between us. I will not hold back and will take one with more coins in it. ”

When Lorist stuffed the bag with a gold Ford into the pocket of Potterfang's shirt, Potterfang was completely stunned as he wore an expression of incredible gratitude. "Mr Norton .. You …"

Lorist interrupted and said, “Call me Locke. When you fought with me as a friend, you were already my friend. And friends don't talk formally to each other. ”

"OK .." Potterfang's face showed a smile. "Alright, Locke. You can call me Pog. That's what my fellow soldiers used to call me. ”

"Alright, Pog," Lorist replied.

The sound of horses galloping down the road could be heard. It turned out that Reidy was driving the carriage with many people in it as well as several others holding luggage racks on the roof and back. Seven or eight people violently ran over with Els and Charade running in front. They all exhaled a sigh of relief when they saw Lorist was unharmed.

"Where is the enemy? Did they escape? ”Ask Charade when she breathes rough.

"No, they don't. Look, they are lying dead inside the plaza, ” Lorist said as he pointed towards the corpse. "Do you have any medicine?"

"Yes, yes .." said Charade as he hurriedly took the medicines from his pocket. Els waved to Terman and the others to go check on the corpses.

"Dad, dad!" A boy and a girl rushed over and held Potterfang's hand tightly while letting out streams of tears from their faces. This is Howard and Alisa, Potterfang's beloved children. They are jolted awake during the train ride and see that their father is no more. If it wasn't for Charade telling them that they were on their way to save their father, who knew how hard they were to cry? Nevertheless, they still cried when they saw the condition of their father who was injured.

"Don't cry, Howard. You're males. You must learn to be strong and protect your sisters in the future. Boys can't just shed tears like that. Dad's fine. Just a few cuts of meat that are nothing to worry about, ” Potterfang said as he stroked the two heads of his children.

Charlando limped with the stick in his hand and said, “I know both. Only tonight, they were the first to arrive at the inn and sit in a corner alone and drunk without talking to each other. I have been observing them for quite a while but I stopped thinking too much about them because they did not bother the other guests. They started leaving as soon as Lorist returned after checking the carriage and even paid the money to Louise! ”

Charade said, “Did they leave the inn early to ambush Lorist on the street? Lorist, do you have any clues from their corpses? "

“In addition to the money bags they carry, there are these two badges and nothing else. Oh, the swords they use are also very common, ” Lorist said as he threw two Battle Force badges at Charade.

Flipping through the badge, Charade said, "The design is indeed different from the normal one, but I don't remember where this badge came from …"

When he gave the badge to Els, Charade grumbled, “Hey, this is your territory, you know. Thank God Locke is fine. Otherwise, let's see how you can make it up to all of us. Hurry up, get these two bodies and see if we have any clue where they're coming from. ”

Els took the badge and said, “Wow, they are indeed One Star Gold rank. I was somewhat skeptical when Reidy said that two Gold rankers attacked Lorist .. What was more surprising was that both of them ended up dead! Insoles, Locke. You really are a monster! ”

“Hey, Brother Pog here is injured, you know. Were it not for his help, I would not have been this lucky. Help me take her to the train first and send her kids and she back to my house. By the way, where is Instructor Marlin? ”Tanya Lorist.

Charade replied, "He still sleeps very well in the carriage …"
