The Sloph Slavers

Chapter 51: The Sloph Slavers

After four days of sea travel, Armatrin Harbor was within sight.

“Meh, this place looks rather small. The size of the port itself was at least ten times smaller than the size of the Golden Gulf. ”

Lorist laughed and said, “How can you compare a place like this with Morante City? Originally, this place started as a group of fishing villages. Had it not been for the establishment of the Duchy of Lormo, no one would have bothered to come here after six years of war. Rumor has it that the smuggling operations run by the Forde Trade Union in the empire were mostly carried out here. For it to be developed into a small town right after the war was already a rather remarkable achievement. I bet that in a few years this will develop into a fairly congested port city. ”

“No matter how densely populated, it has nothing to do with us. Sir, you're saying that fat is waiting for us there? ”Tanya Lorist.

“He told me in the letter that he would set up camp outside the city. We will get to know more when we wonder after we get off at the port, ” Lorist replied with uncertainty.

While the port is already within sight at noon, the, they only managed to close their ship at about three in the afternoon due to the curved waterways that made it difficult for anyone to reach the port safely without being stranded in the shallow seas if they had no guidance.

Lorist, Els, Alisa, Howard, Reidy and Patt all got off the ship and noticed that there was no one in the harbor to accept them and felt something was amiss. Strange, Charade said that he would send someone to the port in a letter, but why haven't I seen any of our people?

Els nodded towards Lorist without saying anything and headed to a nearby tavern with a sign depicting a beer cup and a fish to gather some information.

Lorist waited for a while and the taxman got off the ship with Shadekampf following behind. Lorist waved at him and the tax official came over respectfully. "Sir, how can I help you?"

“I believe about 3000 people descended on this port about ten days ago. Do you know where they have set up camp? ”Ask Lorist while putting a gold Forde in the officer's pocket.

The officer's face instantly gleamed as he said, “Of course I know. They were inside a small pine forest to the south of the city. They should be your subordinates, right? The symbol of the raging bears on their flag is identical to yours. ”

Lorist nodded at that statement.

The officer continued, “My master, I'm afraid your people are having problems. The place where they set up camp was near the Sloph Slavers camp. I heard that some kind of conflict has sparked between the two sides and your people have been stranded around their camp for four days now. ”

"Oh? And who is this Slof guy? ”Tanya Lorist.

"This ...." Tax collectors began to hesitate.

Lorist threw another gold coin at him and his expression changed. In a low voice, he said, “Master, Sloph is the famous leader of the mercenary group. He was really tough and he was closely affiliated with the people in Port Nupite. If possible, I suggest you send someone to visit him with a gift and apologize for your subordinate's actions to resolve the issue. ”

"Oh so . Thank you for your kind suggestion, ”said Lorist, not moving.

The clerk bowed and replied, “Sama-sama. Then, I'll take my leave here. ”

……

“Everything, back to the ship. Reidy, ask Terman and Yuriy to come, ”command Lorist.

……

Els quickly returned to the ship and told everyone about the news she got from the people in the tavern. According to him, the leader of a mercenary group named Sloph was in fact the head of a slave trade syndicate and currently was a local hegemon whose power and influence rivaled even that of a local ruler. The king had no choice but to come to a concession with Sloph stating that as long as his slave group did not obstruct the business in the area so that he could collect taxes from the business owner, he was able to collect taxes from the business owner, he will leave the group alone.

Els said that Charade had arrived 11 days ago at the port and had set up camp inside the pine forest south to the city, which was around the syndicate camp itself. For some reason, they had attracted the attention of the slaves and a battle was going on between them. Not having enough weapons and armor for his troops, Charade could only quickly have someone cut down a few trees to block the entrance of their camp. It also appears that some people have been arrested with some people killed.

The Sloph Syndicate also had the formidable combat power they possessed, including three Gold rankers, over forty Silver rank as well as at least two hundred Iron and Bronze rank. It was no wonder that the ruler of the kingdom did not dare to find trouble with them. There were even rumors that Sloph's brother was a Blademaster, yet he rarely spent time with them.

Everyone was pouting at the news. None of them will encounter any obstacles at the beginning of the journey.

"Patt, Reidy and Shadekampf, you stay on the ship and look after Howard and Alisa. Yuriy, make sure you have at least twelve other guards with you and protect our items. Even though the boat is flying the flag of the Peterson Merchant Guild and not many people dare to get on their bad side, we must prepare for the worst. Arrange the carroballistas and make sure they are well protected. If anyone attacks, kill them. ”

Right now, Lorist was filled with bloodlust. "While for all of you, match your armors. Terman, prepare five carriages and load a large number of arrow bolts onto it and follow me to the camp. We will kill anyone who dares to stand in our way. ”

There were 38 senior students from the academy who were willing to accompany Lorist on this trip, of whom 12 departed early with Charade, who was willing to accompany him, the other 12 stayed with Yuriy and 5 of the remaining 14 wore full body armor like Terman. 7 of them and Els were equipped with light cavalry armor purchased from Dawn Academy, each was armed with arrows and five javelins. Lorist chose a scale armor that only protected his upper body and tried to move within it. Satisfied that it did not hinder his movement and agility, Lorist rode his horse with 12 javelins in shocks hanging from the side of the saddle.

Rent five transport cars from the port at high prices each one big silver, Terman had the coaches follow them to the Charade camp and promised that they would not be held responsible if they lost their load in the event of an attack.

With the six fully armored knights as the vanguard and Terman rode at the very front, they set off south and quickly exited the city and headed for the highway leading to the pine forest.

After traveling for a while, they could see a simple roadblock up ahead formed by several trees stacked into one. Several other people were seen standing around the area and one of them signaled for Lorist's group to stop.

Without a word, Terman lowered his spear and pointed it forward. The other knights behind him immediately followed him with the exception of the one in the middle holding the battle standard of Norton high up in the air.

The five spears of the knights emitted blades of light as they advanced forward. “Gah! They were all Silver-ranked knights! ”The roadblock did not dare to stand in front of them and hurriedly moved aside and started running to their grazing mounts as they cursed loudly.

The first one to hit the tree that blocked the path was Terman. Bang out! A loud noise erupted as the luggage crashed into pieces, clearing the path ahead. The five carriages and the rest of the group rushed forward without delay.

Pointing at the carriage while swearing with a loud voice, some enemies climbed on their mounts and chased after, while others shot at Lorist's group with their bows in anger. In the midst of all that chaos, a cold and cold voice could suddenly be heard. “Men, prepare your javelin! Kill them all!"

Screams of pain were heard all over the place. The group of Els ran around the battlefield and the ones closer to the enemy fired their bows with a few further ones launching javelins towards the enemy, killing ten or more overwhelmed fighters in just an instant. Some enemy archers were the first to fall, followed by two warriors with their horses nailed to the ground from javelins pointed at them. The screams of the fallen horses were very unpleasant to hear.

Holding his horse on the harness, Lorist picked up the javelin with his left hand, focused on his target and let the javelin fly. Within moments, 12 road blockers died under the javelin like bolts. Upon seeing Lorist run out of javelins, a Silver Sword Swordsman who was playing dead ran towards him with a loud cry and leaped high in the air with both of his hands raised as he prepared to release his slash downwards, that aimed to knock Lorist off his horse and escape with it himself.

A blade of light began to radiate from the attacker's sword. When the assailant saw Lorist draw his sword and prepared to fend off his sword, he paid him no heed as Lorist's sword had no light on it. Hmph! An Iron rank like him wants to block the attack from me, a rank Three Silver Star? He will die instantly after I break his sword in two and the horse will be mine.

Beyond the attackers' expectations, Lorist's sword did not break and instead, a powerful force could be felt through his own sword into his hand. His weapon was sent flying deep in the air as he helplessly stared at Lorist's nimble sword attack creeping like a snake through the space between them and went for his throat before everything went pitch black …….

Bodies could be seen scattered all over the street. Of all the people who dared to block their way, more than 30 of them were lying on the ground dead with four or five others fleeing in panic while Lorist's nine-man group was completely unharmed. The result of the battle had completely satisfied Lorist. He did not expect to kill 13 people just at the start of the battle, as well as 10-odd out of 20 plus people who followed later. Els and the rest of the group did not even have to face one person from each of the remaining enemies.

A senior student came up to Lorist and saluted him with an expression full of admiration.

These items refer to enemy mounts, weapons, clothing, as well as other equipment and resources. Lorist believed that he was already generous enough for not taking their underwear. Had Charade managed this, he would have left a naked body on the ground after stripping them all they had.

"Yes, sir," replied the senior student.

“Els, when we arrive at the camp later, give them the mounts, weapons and armor you have collected. As for money, you can share it among yourself. Don't forget to leave some to Terman, " Lorist said to Els.

"My master, the way loot is divided is already established by Charade. You can't just decide for yourself to change the rules like that, ”remembered Els.

"Oh, sorry. I have forgotten. Then let's divide it according to the regulations, ” Lorist said.

———————————————————

After turning the street, a Raging Bear flag could be seen inside the camp. There is another campground two hundred plus meters from the one mentioned above, fortified by a fort made of mud and stone, and, it made it seem much safer and neater than the Charade camp built with simple wooden rods. It must be the slave camp.

When the main gate of the camp finally opened, a cheer erupted as the people inside looked at Lorist. The slaves in the other camps gathered to see what was going on with some of them going up to where they were building their road block, clearly curious how the small convoy of five carriages made it to the pine forest.

Getting off his horse, Lorist told Terman, “Get the area and share the spear and arrow. ”

A senior student from the academy with a bandage on his head rushed over to salute them. Lorist recognized this person: he was one of the 12 students of the academy who left with Charade's group.

“Ah, you must be Dulles. How can you get hurt? Is this serious? ”Ask Lorist anxiously.

Dulles replied gratefully, "It's just a bruise, nothing big. Mr. Locke, you're finally here. Charade was inside the tent there and he was injured while Knight Potterfang was resting because he was patrolling last night. I sent someone to tell him. ”

"Good . Take me to Knight Charade, ” Lorist said.

……

Pushing open the entrance of the tent, Lorist saw Charade sitting all wrapped up like dumplings.

"Hey, fatty. Somehow, you don't look fat when you're all wrapped up! ”Canda Els's.

Staring at Els, Charade pouted before saying, “I knew you would come along. Honey I don't bet with someone, otherwise I'll win a lot of money. ”

"Sol ...." Els was completely speechless.

“How are you hurt? Are they serious? ”Tanya Lorist.

“It's okay, I just slashed a few times and lost some blood. Lundmorde told me that I will fully recover in 20 days. God, I really don't expect us to falter right at the beginning of our journey, ” Charade said.

Lundmorde was one of the 12 senior students of the academy who went to Port Nupite with Charade and he was a novice ranked herbalist.

Els sat down beside Charade and patted her thigh because it was the only part that was not wrapped in bandages. Els said, "Fatty, who did this to you? Your sister will definitely make him pay. ”

“People like you? Drop that idea. That man is the Gold Swordsman! I've gotten seven wounds from fighting against him just for a while. If you are there, you will be stained red with your own blood in no time, ” Charade replied.

“Sol, don't forget that I'm stronger than you. I'll show you how I take care of that person, ” Els said, dissatisfied at being looked down upon.

“Alright, cut it. Charade, tell me more about the situation, ” Lorist said.

Basically, after Charade and Potterfang arrived at Port Nupite, the latter was in touch with some of his old friends. One of them worked as a bodyguard for a slave merchant and Potterfang managed to easily buy over 700 young people and get slaves from him without a hitch. It was worth mentioning that they had all awakened their Battle Strength and most of them were Iron rank with the rest being Bronze rank. Many of them used to be troops of the former Krissen Empire or troops of forces from various cities that had been taken captive during the conflict and sold to slave traders. They were mainly detained for fleeing because of their family members being arrested.

Charade said that he managed to obtain slaves for a total cost of 16,000 gold coins and also spent quite a lot on clothes and food. However, after paying the down payment for the food he ordered, he, he noticed that he only had about 4000 gold coins and he still needed to pay about 3,000 gold coins to settle the entire bill as well as transport food. That was why he was hesitant to buy weapons and armor to equip the slaves he had just obtained, because he expected Lorist to bring them when the time came to meet. It ended with the Sloph Slavers directing their eyes to prey on them because the slaves were unarmed.

The slaves had been watching Charade's group for two whole days after they set up camp and believed that they were another rival slave trading group because of the slaves they bought. That being said, the Sloph group would not let them off the hook and send someone to tell Charade about their condition. First, they had to pay 5,000 toll gold coins. Second, they had to leave at least half of the slaves they had.

Of course, Charade rejected those conditions and explained that they were not slaves, but rather soldiers of the Norton Family. However, the other party was completely unaware of Norton's whereabouts and even said that even if Norton was a noble, they would also have to pay attention to their demands.

Originally, Charade would still try to negotiate peacefully with them if it was an option. However, when the Norton Family was humiliated like that, Charade instantly killed one of them and beat up the rest before driving them away. It was after that when Charade saw that something was wrong when the people in the city looked at them with a hostile light and refused to sell any weapons, even to the smallest kitchen knives.

Unable to do anything about that fact, Charade quickly returned to the camp and assigned the soldiers to fortify them with ad hoc walls made of tree trunks. With less than a hundred sets of equipment and more than 3000 people, they were almost destroyed under the power of the slaves. Luckily Potterfang and his two former colleagues managed to hold off the enemy's gold-ranked fighters. Coupled with the rampage of the 12 students of the academy, they managed to cause a slave group of around 30 casualties and force their troops to retreat.

Over the past three days, 17 slaves have been killed with 50 others injured and 40 others captured. 7 of the 12 students of the academy were also injured from the fighting and are currently recovering from their injuries. The slaves had also changed their tactics and began to encircle the Charade camp and wait for them to run out of food and other resources before finishing them off. Thankfully, Lorist's group arrived just as the supplies were about to run out.

At that moment, the lid of the tent was pushed open and Potterfang entered along with the other two men.

After seeing Lorist, Potterfang said, “My master, you are finally here. ”

After which, he introduced the two men beside him to Lorist. "My lord, these two men are my former friends in the army. This one here is Lode Wales and he's a Two Star Gold Swordsman and this is Mons Malek and he's top of the Three Silver Star rankings. Both of them wanted to follow us to the Northlands to check out the place. ”

What Potterfang meant was simple: both wanted to find a family to serve, but they did not understand Lorist's attitude well enough. That was why they decided to join the journey to see if Lorist would fit in with their principles before deciding whether to join the Norton Family army. Potterfang hoped that Lorist would allow them to come along.

Standing up and saluting the two of them, Lorist said, “I thank you both for helping us. Were it not for you, the camp might have long been violated. The Norton family will definitely not forget this favor. If there is something that the Norton Family can help you both, we will try our best. ”

The shorter man, Lode Wales, smiled and said honestly, “Yes, you are too polite. There is no question that we will help our colleague Pog here when he is in trouble. No need to go out of your way to thank us. ”

Mons Malek put on a serious expression without saying anything and simply nodded.

Just as Lorist was about to continue speaking, Dulles rushed into the tent from outside with a nervous expression on his face. "Lord Locke, the enemy is preparing to attack us again!"
