Mythology of Java (Balaupata)

Balaupata was the twin brother of Cingkarabala.[1] Balaupata and Cingkarabala are (in wayang stories) twin Giant Gods.[2]

(riyah)

Balaupata was the son of a giant named Gopatama who was the Andhini Ox, the vehicle of the Sang Hyang Guru.[1][2] When the Hyang Guru was crowned the ruler of the universe had received opposition from several circles including the jinn type, the jinn, dedemit and Duruwikan Including the work of Dahulagiri demit led by these twin giants Balaupata and Cingkarabala and the shaped [cow]] named Andini.[3] After Manikmaya had conquered them, Andhini's father from Balaupata became the vehicle for the Master Sang Hyang.[3] Therefore Balaupata and his twin brother were given the task of guarding the entrance of Jonggring Saloka or the door of Suralaya and were appointed as Gods.[3] Another source explained that Both of them got the position of maturity, because they were carried away by their brother: Nanda/Nandi/Nandini/Handini, which had preceded being the vehicle Batara Guru/Sang Hyang Manikmala as well, he lives in Suralaya.[4]

The Statue of Balaupata

In the life of the community usually statues of Cingkarabala and Balaupata can be interpreted as tulak bala (preventing danger) so as not to disturb or harm the occupants of the building in question.[8] Thus by understanding the young people in the art of ketoprak can be interpreted as a tulak bala against the influence of foreign cultures that increasingly aggressively enter Indonesia.[8] In the context of the former Javanese government, Balupata and Cingkarabala were made into statues of palace guards, which were placed to the left of the palace gate and thus it is believed that the palace was kept strong until it was safe.[9] Then also with the use of the symbol of the statue of these two twin gods, entering the palace was not easy because of the many obstacles that had to be passed.[6] Even those with good intentions can enter.[6]
