Wang Yao needed all afternoon to make a formula. By the time he left the hill, it was already dark and this formula was easiest to make among all the other formulas.
The next day, Wang Yao woke up when it was still dark and went to the hill. As usual, he worked in the field of herbs for a while before starting the manufacturing of his herbs again. He's going to make a different formula today. He needed more herbs and the process was more complicated. He needed all day to make it and he almost finished all the potions he bought.
Well, if it continues like this, I won't be able to complete the task of making five formulas within five days. I have to stay over tonight, Wang Yao thought.
He told his family by phone that he would not be coming home tonight, instead, he would be living on the hill. Zhang Xiuying was a bit worried but he could not convince his son to go home. He asked Wang Yao to take care of himself while he was on top of the hill. In fact, this was not the first time Wang Yao had spent the night on a hill.
Wang Yao did not sleep most of the night, but he was too sleepy to stay awake past 4am. After two hours of sleep he woke up, had breakfast and started working in the herbal fields again.
“Any, why didn't anything happen?” Wang Yao was looking at the area where he planted the moonlight seeds.
After observing for a while, Wang Yao was sure everything was fine in the area. Wang Yao drank the water from the ancient spring and felt completely awake. Then, he rode his bike into the city to buy more herbs as there were not many left. He decided to buy more herbs because he still had three more formulas to make.
“Hey, young man, why are you here again?” the shop assistant was surprised to see Wang Yao just after one day.
“Of course, I'm here to buy herbs,” Wang Yao said with a smile.
“Buy jamu again? Have you used all the potions you bought the day before yesterday? ” ask shop assistant with surprise.
“Yes, almost, so I need to buy more today,” said Wang Yao.
“Yes God, how fast! I hope you didn't just burn it? ” cananda shop assistant.
“Cannot be! I'm not so rich. I'm practicing making potions.” He was telling the truth but the shop assistant didn't seem to believe him.
“Well, how much do you want this time?” Although the shop assistant was skeptical of what Wang Yao said, he did not mind if this herb was not used to harm people. Worst case scenario, Wang Yao sold this potion to someone else to make a profit.
“I need twice as much as the amount I bought last time. Here's the list.” Wang Yao gave the list to the shop assistant.
“That's a lot?!” Although the shop assistant was shocked, he weighed the potion according to Wang Yao's list and put it in a large bag.
“Thank you,” said Wang Yao as he picked up his bag.
“Do you eat any herbs?” ask the shop assistant.
“Ah?” Wang Yao stopped, but he immediately understood the intent of the shop assistant, “No, I did not eat any herbs.”
“Oh, good. Good luck to you!" said the shop assistant.
“Thank you,” said Wang Yao.
Wang Yao returned to the village on his bicycle. He carried the entire herbal bag to the hill and then sorted through the herbs before resting. Then, he started brewing the decoction according to the formula. He was very careful because he knew he could not make any more mistakes. Even with such effort, he only managed to concoct the potion when it was already dark.
It's the third day! thought Wang Yao.
After a day of running around and making potions, Wang Yao was exhausted even though he was quite fit.
“Yao?”
When Wang Yao was ready to make the fourth potion, his mother came looking for him. He smelled the spices as soon as he approached the hut where Wang Yao was making the potions. He even saw the dregs piling up next to the hut. He found his son brewing in a clay pot when he entered the small wooden house.
“What are you doing here?” ask Zhang Xiuying.
“Kok can be here, Bu?” Wang Yao was surprised to see his mother.
“Because you have rarely been home lately and have been acting quietly. I want to see if you're okay. What are you doing?”
“I was brewing a potion,” Wang Yao told the truth after thinking for a while; she was unable to find a reasonable reason.
“Creating potions? Who did you learn that from?” ask Zhang Xiuying.
“Yesterday afternoon, old man Zexiao came to our house with a big gift. They said they wanted to thank you for saving Zexiao's life. So, did you really cure Zexiao?” ask Zhang Xiuying.
“Not me, it is an ancient Chinese Medicine practitioner. He prescribed the formula and made potions from it. ” Wang Yao just concocted some old Chinese Medical practitioners and hoped to fool her mother.
“What is the practical name? How old? Where does he live?" Zhang Xiuying was not easily fooled. He immediately asked a number of questions to Wang Yao, as if he was checking the status of one's residence.
“Bu, I promised her not to reveal it to anyone, even you and father,” Wang Yao said.
“Only the two of us are here. You can't tell me calmly? ” Zhang Xiuying looked around and said with a smile.
“Hey, Mom — I have to keep my promise!” said Wang Yao.
“Silence, you can't even tell me?” Zhang Xiuying was annoyed.
“No. Ii'm Sorry. You just need to know that I didn't do anything bad. Please come in and sit down!” said Wang Yao.
As he spoke, he smelled something burning.
“No! The boil is too ripe!”
He went to retrieve the clay pot from the fire in haste; he knew he was failing again.
“You didn't lie to me?” Zhang Xiuying did not seem to believe what Wang Yao said.
“Of course not. Why would I lie to you? I grow my own herbs. I should know the effect of my potion, ” said Wang Yao. He could not let his mother know about the mysterious system that had caused something extraordinary.
“Do you need my help?” Zhang Xiuying asked.
“No, you can just rest here,” said Wang Yao.
Inside the hut, Zhang Xiuying chatted with Wang Yao for quite some time. After making sure there were no problems with his son, Zhang Xiuying left the hill. Wang Yao started working again as soon as his mother left and continued brewing the stew. After several successful experiments, he found that the ratio of different herbs and brewing time was very important. Furthermore, if he added some ancient springs during the process, his success rate would increase dramatically. So, after he had watered the herb fields, he deliberately left the ancient spring to make a stew.
“What does he do on the hill?” Wang Fenghua was smoking when Zhang Xiuying returned home. He asked her as soon as he saw her walking into the house.
“Why don't you check yourself?” Zhang Xiuying glanced at her husband, "Your son is making potions."
“Making potions?”
“Yes, he said that he had learned herbs from an ancient Chinese Medicine practitioner. He tried to brew the potion himself. The formula that saved Zexiao's life came from that practitioner,” Zhang Xiuying said.
“Which practice?” w.a.n.g Fenghua asked with a frown.
“I asked him but he didn't tell me. He said practitioners did not allow him to reveal it to anyone. Why don't I have any knowledge of the outstanding practitioners living nearby?” zhang Xiuying.
“Lian Shan is a big city; you can't possibly go to every corner of the city, just leave him alone,” Wang Fenghua said.
“Good,” Zhang Xiuying approve.
The couple decided not to bother their son for now. At the same time, Wang Yao continued to work on the hill at night.
