Chapter 7. Mbah Sumanto

"Bah? Why hasn't it worked so far?" ask a woman to the shaman she goes to when night falls. The shaman was named Sumanto. People used to call it 'Mbah'.

Mbah Sumanto clucked slowly. "Wouldn't you look for another suitable prey? His care is very strict from the ancestors," he replied referring to the person whose fetus would move into the womb of a woman in front of him.

"Can't, Mbah. He's been nearly eight months. Wouldn't it be more mature to move?" The woman remained adamant with her initial purpose.

She was forced to commit an act of breaking the rules of God in order to become a woman completely, namely conceiving and giving birth. What else does he not have except those two things? Her husband is rich, a big house, a smooth business, and there are many more perfections of life that he has.

It all started when her mother-in-law did not hesitate to quip and always brought up about pregnancy.

"What the hell are you, Wo? Married for three years I have no children either. Checked with that doctor? Perhaps your wife is barren" said the mother-in-law to her son, Bowo, who is none other than the woman's husband.

That woman was none other than Sinta. His life is almost perfect. However, ever since her mother-in-law said so, that perfection seemed to be gone. Bowo, the Husband often urged that Sinta immediately pregnant. "I don't want to know. Anyway, you should get pregnant soon, Sin. Otherwise, I'll get married again" said Bowo at the time, which made Sinta lose her mind.

Because Bowo had a job on the island of Java, Sinta also joined her husband to move residence. There, Sinta met many people who Sinta had known. From one of the acquaintances there is a tell if Aruna is pregnant with the age of seven months.

Until the time we waited finally came. Mbah Sumanto began to carry out the ritual with a mouth that was chatty. He also burned incense and the hair that Sinta had brought, making the smoke puff out the smell of incense. A few minutes passed, Mbah Sumanto seemed finished.

He took something in a jug and handed it to Sinta. "Eat this. Lest there be any left," he and Sinta immediately received the small jug.

"This is what, Mbah?" ask Sinta to be confused. When looking at the contents of the jug, Sinta immediately closed her mouth because her stomach felt nauseous. "It stinks, Mbah," he lamented, ignored by Mbah Sumanto.

"That's ari-ari," replied Mbah Sumanto casually.

Sinta's eyes widened with her mouth open. "Bah? Was it not wrong that I was told to eat this?"

Mbah Sumanto returned. Her face looked annoyed because since then, Sinta asked too many questions. "You want to get pregnant, don't you? So, do it without asking too much."

"Have someone who has just given birth. Lucky you. I can get that without you bothering first. After this, then you have to look for it yourself," said Mbah Sumanto.

Sinta looked at ari-ari in front of her. His stomach churned up to require him to shut his mouth tightly. Inevitably, Sinta had to eat it. He took it from inside the jug by covering his nose.

He raised the meat high in front of his face. There was blood dripping on the clothes Sinta was wearing. Sinta took a breath and immediately bit the baby bit by bit.

However, in order to achieve his life goals, Sinta also agreed. Mbah Sumanto got up and went into a room that had no idea what. Not long after, he returned with something wrapped in dried corn skin and something else wrapped in banana leaves.

"This, seven-figure flower. Dissolve in a liter of water and give splashes to the house in question. Surround the house until the water runs out." Mbah Sumanto gave a banana leaf wrap followed by dry corn skin.
