Throughout that day, Alifa's mind could not focus. He kept thinking about Nindi's attitude, which he thought was too attentive to Hamzah.
The voice of the lecturer who was speaking in front felt like the sound of a bee humming. Alifa could not digest all the explanations from her lecturer.
He even looked blankly at the sheet of paper on the table. Then Alifa threw a glance out the window where her mind became more agitated when she realized that right now, maybe, Hamzah was alone with Nindi.
Alifa did not want to continue to be dominated by that unsettled mind. As soon as her college eyes were finished, Alifa planned to go to Steve's company office, her father.
By ordering a taxi, Alifa had arrived in front of the father's skyscraper within twenty minutes.
The security guard at the main door was already very familiar with Alifa, so he was allowed to enter without much requirement. So did the receptionist who had long worked at Steve corp's company.
Alifa climbed onto the elevator with an impatient feeling. He hadn't visited his father's office in a long time. Because his father always forbade him to come.
But this time Alifa wants to make a surprise and he wants to ask permission for Hamzah to work in the company of his father.
Ting.
The elevator door opened, Alifa walked towards her father's office at the end of the hall. Steve's office door opened slightly and Alifa also heard the sound of conversation between two people.
"Why do you doubt Alifa, Honey? He is your son. Aye right?" ask a woman to Steve.
Upon hearing the word 'Honey', made Alifa suddenly stop her steps. He abandoned any intention of entering the father's study.
Alifa was silent behind the door. Curiosity made him glance slightly into the room. Alifa was seen by a woman with curly hair and also wearing a skimpy shirt sitting at Steve's desk.
Steve sat with his eyes focused on the computer screen. Although the attitude shown to the woman was very cold, but the woman continued to act spoiled in front of Alifa's father.
Made Alifa's chest tight at the time. I want to feel like Alifa jumped in and grabbed the woman's hair.
However, Alifa's mind was more domineering. He kept quiet and waited for Steve's answer.
"Alifa's mother was a bad woman. He was always happy if there was another man who teased him, that's what made me doubt a little bit that Alfie and Joseph were my biological children or not" Steve replied with a flat expressionless look.
In that instant, Alifa was like being hit by a huge rock on his head. He would not have thought if all this time Steve doubted himself and also Joseph as a biological child or not.
Alifa smothered her gawking mouth in disbelief. It did not feel both beads his eyes had glazed over and like there was a fattening heart of Alifa from the inside.
"But why don't you just do a DNA test, so you don't live in doubt?" the curly-haired woman asked back.
Steve took a breath. His fingers paused for a moment from typing the document. Then Steve massaged the base of his nose, a sign that he was experiencing frustration.
"I've always wanted to do a DNA test, but Mrs Haida, Alifa's grandmother, never allowed me to do that" said Steve, massaging his nose.
While the woman who was sitting at the table now moved to the back of Steve's chair. He put his hands on Steve's shoulders and massaged them slowly.
"You must be stressed with this problem" the woman murmured without stopping her massage. "But you're sure that Alifa's mother really cheated on you?"
"I saw it for myself, Meg," said Steve confidently. "I caught him being alone with another man."
Suddenly the cry of Alifa made Steve and his woman jumped in shock and turned to the door. Where there was Alifa standing with both watery eyes and strong clenched hands.
Instantly Steve jumped to his feet from his seat. Sedng women who were with Steve rounded wide eyes so surprised at the presence of Alifa.
"Alifa, why are you here?" Steve asked as he walked closer to Alifa.
Instead of answering Steve's question, Alifa shook her head along with the fall of one clear circle from the eye patch.
"No way. You can't do something like that, Pa," Alifa said sobbing.
Steve snorted while looking away. He shook his waist and was silent for a moment.
Very clear if Steve is weighing the attitude he must take.
And that very second Steve decided to tell Alifa the truth.
"You're an adult, Alifa. It's time you knew the reason Papa and Mama got divorced," Steve said, taking a serious look at Alifa.
"And that's why Papa kept the distance between me and Joseph?" alifa Terka.
Steve nodded his head. "Yes, Alfah."
"No way," cried Alifa shaking her head tightly.
It was as if Alifa could not accept the reality. The sobs of Alifa were becoming. But there was no attitude Steve wanted to encourage Alifa.
"I know you can't accept this. But this is the truth, Alifa. Your mother cheated on me from the very beginning we were married."
At once Alifa held her chest that felt tight and sick. Tears never stopped and flowed from the end of his eyes.
Then Alifa turned her body and immediately ran towards the elevator. Impatiently, Alifa pressed the elevator button to get down to the first floor.
In the elevator, Alfie continued to cry. No matter the gaze of all the eyes that filled her with astonishment.
After the elevator door opened, Alifa again ran through the crowd of people passing by. He stopped the taxi as soon as he got to the side of the road.
While still in the workspace, Steve was pensive about the actions he had taken. All this time he did not care about the fate of Alifa and Joseph.
But for some reason, this time little heart Steve felt pain when he saw Alifa crying in front of him.
"Honey, what you're doing is right. There's no need to feel guilty" Megan said, embracing Steve.
The woman smiled spoiledly and hoped to get a warm response from Steve. However, Steve actually brushed Megan's hand off her shoulder.
"Don't bother me, Meg! I'm stressed out today."
