MY VERY BRAVE WIFE

MY VERY BRAVE WIFE
Chapter 8

"Grandfather, sorry for my delay. Did I make you wait too long?" Zhao Lifei gently asked while sitting down.

Zhao Moyao hummed in response. "No, I just got here" He blatantly lied, showing a smile.

Li Xuan, his personal secretary, pursed his lips due to the lies of his Great Boss.

Zhao Moyao had been waiting here as soon as he called her. He seemed to greatly appreciate the time spent with his granddaughter. He had so much yet he just seemed to like this one here.

"Are you sure? Li Xuan's lips twitched now." Zhao Lifei teased, glad he came thirty minutes earlier than planned. He knew he was the type of person who was always waiting for him, so he sped up his routine and taxis.

Zhao Moyao chuckled, sipping his tea. "It looks like I should make him wait outside." He pondered.

"That's not good, grandpa. He has been your right hand for the last ten years." Zhao Lifei teased back, giggling to herself as she sipped hot tea.

Li Xuan sighed in despair. The two always teased him as if he was not present in the same room as them. Fortunately, he was already used to their bullying. Whatever makes them happy, he will be happy to obey.

"In addition, why are you still standing, Li Xuan? Let's sit down." Zhao Lifei gestured towards the empty seats surrounding their table.

No thank you. I gotta go right away." He said, politely declining the offer. A few seconds later, the phone died. Excuse me, he stepped out.

"Xiao Fei, how are you doing these few days? I still haven't visited your condo since returning last week." Zhao Moyao was a busy person.

He was the King of the Hotel Kingdom and the Head of the Zhao Corporation Kingdom. He did not inherit his position like most corporate legacies. Zhao Moyao was the youngest in her family, but after working hard, she was able to achieve an outstanding position as CEO of Zhao Company.

"It's the same routine; nothing out of the ordinary." Zhao Lifei said as he picked up the menu and skimmed through the traffic.

"My source told me that Yang Ruqin had trapped you on another blind date yesterday," Zhao Moyao said listlessly, but her eagle-like eyes monitored Zhao Lifei's expression.

Zhao Lifei stiffened hearing the news and sighed. "Grandfather, please don't tell me you've hired another team of bodyguards to watch me from a distance." He put down the menu and childishly crossed his arms.

Zhao Moyao chuckled. "You are Zhao and my favorite granddaughter - that title is enough to make your head hit. You need to be well protected. Moreover, the extra layer of security never harmed anyone."

"That would jeopardize my privacy." He's gotta.

"Yes, but it'll keep you safe. Especially with that brat Zheng and his mischievous son hanging around the city." Zhao Moyao's voice was indifferent as he casually flashed that comment. But deep down, he was burning with anger and a desire for revenge.

He used to be close friends with Elder Zheng, but after the terrible humiliation that Zhao Lifei had to endure, Zhao Moyao severed all ties with the elder. He would never let it be trampled on, regardless of the things he might have done!

The Zhao Corporation had taken a hard hit on their shares, but the Yang Enterprise came as their help.

"It's okay. I'm not afraid of him, grandpa ..." Zhao Lifei's voice became soft and gentle, but it trembled and trembled with uncertainty.

"You sure you didn't want to accept my offer earlier? We can try to get rid of that woman—"

"No, grandpa. One blow at him, and it'll send Zheng's entire army after us."

Zheng Tianyi was in charge of the private military that Zheng had and he would never hesitate to use it, especially when Xia Mengxi was in the picture.

Had this been the previous Zhao Lifei, naive, and vindictive, she would have instantly agreed with her grandfather.

The chance to dispose of Xia Mengxi? With pleasure. But she is not that woman anymore. He had learned his lesson the hard way and was determined not to experience it again. Moreover, she did not want to forever be a stereotypical ex-fiancee who refused to let go of the big thighs [1] she was constantly holding.

"What that bastard did to you is so despicable." Zhao Moyao put down the menu.

How dare they try to attack his grandson when he is overseas on an important business trip?

Zheng Tianyi waited for the perfect opportunity where all of Zhao Lifei's comrades and allies were outside of the city or country to attack him. And indeed, they hit him hard. Within a matter of three days, he was humiliated, cast aside, disowned, banned, blacklisted, beaten, and destroyed.

Zhao Lifei might have done some terrible things to Xia Mengxi, but Zheng Tianyi's actions had crossed the line.

"You've changed a lot in two years." Zhao Moyao said, recalling the memory of Zhao Lifei's spoiled and mischievous ways.

Zhao Lifei laughed lightly. "I don't want to be a hateful, vindictive fiancee. Positive change isn't that bad." He put his cheek on his propped up hand.

"You've done too much for that useless man." Zhao Moyao muttered, clearly not wanting to let Zheng Tianyi go unpunished.

His granddaughter bore all the heavy responsibilities of being Zheng Tianyi's public fiancee. Xia Mengxi was hidden from the limelight, and thus, never received the harder end of the stick.

Zhao Lifei had to endure death threats, constant assassination attempts, stay up all night working on his report, and sign documents. Those were all responsibilities that Xia Mengxi should have done, but instead of doing so, she ran away from him.

"I want to let go of the past, Grandpa. It was not good to think about it any further." Zhao Lifei whispered, hugging her stomach protectively.

The past is the past, it must remain in the past and not the present or the future.

Zhao Moyao's face softened. The woman in front of him had become a shell that suffered tremendous damage. The cracks were clear, and the high walls he had made were even more visible.

He was badly damaged, and there was nothing he could do or say that could restore time.

"It's been a long time since we last talked over lunch. Let's not talk about this anymore." Zhao Lifei silently said, his voice almost whispering.

Zhao Moyao sighed. "Alright, I think we should go back to ordering our food."
