MY VERY BRAVE WIFE

MY VERY BRAVE WIFE
Chapter 9

Zhao Lifei knew that it was no longer wise to interfere in Zheng Tianyi's affairs. It was very unwise to try to attack Zheng Tianyi's eye seeds, Xia Mengxi.

Xia Mengxi was heavily guarded and protected. If someone dared to hurt their lover, they would suffer more than they could afford.

Since Zheng was the third most powerful family in the country, no one dared to antagonize them.

The previous Zhao Lifei from two years ago was not afraid of those warning signs. He constantly placed the target on Xia Mengxi's innocent back. He slandered and oppressed Xia Mengxi who had never resisted.

Despite this, Zhao Lifei had dug deep into Xia Mengxi's background, then found something she shouldn't have.

As he tried to uncover his discovery, Xia Mengxi quickly approached Zheng Tianyi first. And since this was the first time he had asked for his help, Zheng Tianyi was very willing to help him. This led to Zhao Lifei's greatest downfall and the loss of something extremely valuable and irreplaceable.

Zhao Lifei would never be able to forget the mocking and horrifying memory of Zheng Tianyi's disgusted gaze when he asked her to stay with him. He knelt down, clung and grasped it. And what did he do to the woman who made him the man he is today? He called security to brutally strip her of her in the streets.

He curled up in front of Zheng Main House and had to hail a taxi to go home. Fortunately, it was night time and there were no paparazzi around to see the embarrassing scene. The news of what happened to him spread like wildfire. Within the span of a few hours, Zhao Lifei had lost everything.

"Xiao Fei, you daydream again." Zhao Moyao reprimanded as she looked at Zhao Lifei's blank gaze.

"I'm sorry, grandpa, I just have a lot of thoughts." Zhao Lifei said timidly as she sipped her tea.

After ordering their food some time ago, the two of them were almost done eating.

"I can tell." He hummed, wiping his mouth with a cloth.

Zhao Lifei smiled at his straightforwardness. He was not the type to comfort people or give them good words. He showed his affection and kindness towards her in small, deliberate acts that were hard to catch without noticing her.

He doesn't mind his behavior.

"You're wearing pretty professional clothes today." Zhao Moyao pointed, staring at his white blouse and black pants.

"Yes, I've guessed you'll match me as usual when you invite me to a restaurant near the company." Zhao Moyao laughed, his voice warm and warm. "It seems you already know my plan. But not today, my dear. It's nothing more than a casual lunch." He smiled, putting down his tea cup.

Zhao Lifei slowly nodded and in the next thirty minutes, they had a brief conversation on the last few days Zhao Moyao was outside the city.

After lunch, Zhao Lifei returned home to repeat the same mundane routine. There is nothing interesting in his life.

Two years ago, his life revolved around Zheng Tianyi and nothing else. His schedule is usually filled with working on his paperwork, applying for contracts, making his business plans, and wasting his entire day helping him run his company.

Zhao Lifei stepped out of the taxi and quickened her pace when she realized the sky was getting dark. As soon as he stepped into the large lobby of the Sky Arc Complex, it rained heavily.

From small droplets to storms as thunder rumbled in the distance, the rain became a torrential rain.

Stepping into the elevator, Zhao Lifei was surprised to see the same elevator hostess.

"Good day, Miss Zhao!" The woman greeted, bowing before him.

How are you today? I hope this job isn't too tiring." Zhao Lifei made small talk with the hostess who immediately replied.

"It's okay, nothing extraordinary! Other than standing for a while, it's not as bad as my previous job." The hostess of the elevator house happily explained.

Of all the rich people who entered and exited his elevator, none of them would be willing to smile and talk to him like Zhao Lifei.

He was very happy to have someone to talk to in such a boring and tiring job. Having to stand for most of the day was exhausting, but talking to Zhao Lifei made him very energetic.

When he heard the rumors about Zhao Lifei and his attitude first, he was slightly affected by the opinions of the other workers. But now that he spoke to her often, it seemed like those rumors were just simple gossip.

"Hopefully have a good day, Miss Zhao!" The hostess quickly said as the elevator door closed.

"Thank you, you too!" Zhao Lifei replied with a nod.

After entering an elaborate twenty-letter passcode, scanning the thumb, and then swiping the card key, Zhao Lifei walked into his spacious condo. Because her living room window was so tall and wide, she could see the rain perfectly. The heavy rain created a very sad and melancholic atmosphere.

Zhao Lifei took off her coat and put down her bag, then sat by the window to listen to the rain.

The sound of the rain was so soothing, Zhao Lifei felt like playing a melody to accompany her. He stared at the shiny black piano sitting in the corner of the room, right beside the window.

It has been a few weeks since the last time he played, but the rain created such a perfect atmosphere, he knew he had to play it.

Zhao Lifei got up from her position and sat down in front of the piano. Breathing in a deep and calm air, he closed his eyes. Following the tempo of the rain, he let his slender fingers steer himself above the piano.

In a trance, he allowed himself to play all sorts of sad songs, starting with Mozart and then ending with Beethoven. In his frenzy of playing the piano, his mind began to wander.

Once upon a time, he was a piano prodigy.

Before Zhao Linhua's birth and the abandonment of his mother, Zhao Lifei was an award-winning pianist whose performance made people cry. He used to be surrounded by endless rows of trophies, banners, and awards dedicated to him. Any competition he participated in would be an easy win.

When Zhao Linhua was discovered as a child prodigy, Zhao Lifei was overjoyed. Since she loved her little sister so much once she picked her up as a baby, she wanted to teach Zhao Linhua the art of piano.

It was all fun and games until Zhao Linhua was compared to his older sister. After that, Linhua stopped playing the piano and locked himself in his room.

Zhao Lifei was heartbroken to hear the news and decided it was best not to surpass her younger sister. Therefore, at the young age of fourteen, he stopped his thriving career.

Stepping into the shadows, he let his little sister be the center of attention.

And how did Zhao Linhua reply to him? Deliberately showing off the affection of his parents in front of Zhao Lifei who did not get it. Not only that, Zhao Linhua also chose Xia Mengxi over her older sister.

"Never again ..." Zhao Lifei muttered to herself as she felt the pain of betrayal.

As the seconds turned into minutes and minutes into hours, Zhao Lifei practiced from sunset to midnight. He played nonstop until his fingers were sore, barely able to move.

He was so concentrated on the piano, he did not notice his trembling hands and the cold sweat on his forehead. Immediately, he fell onto the piano, his eyes staring at the window. With the moonlight shining on her translucent skin, she fell into a deep sleep plagued by nightmares.
