After dinner, Koen van Allent drove his sons and daughters into the living room.
Noah turned on the sound system in the corner of the room, playing folk music, which was then pushed aside by Keith, replaced with a new song from the Indonesian band.
Elijah did not want to lose, he slipped in the middle of his two brothers, then seized control and played metal music.
Norah smothered her ears with a pouting face.
Their father approached the corner of the room, joined by Elijah and his two brothers, while leaving his waist. "Sit down!" their father orders with a growling voice.
The three brothers split up and huddled again on the sofa.
Their father replaced his music with old songs belonging to legendary Indonesian musicians, Iwan Fals. The song she played was titled: Awareness.
Goody! gerutu Elijah in heart. It was a very subtle satire.
"For this one week, every night, you must be here for a chain prayer!" Koen van Allent announced, greeted by the moans of his sons and daughters. "Come, start!"
The four brothers sighed from the sofa, and joined their father, clustered in front of the fireplace, forming a circle with hands holding each other with the person on his left-right.
"Lord, thank you for the grace and forgiveness, as well as the work of salvation," their father began to lead the prayer. "Thank you for giving me these kids."
"Thank you for giving me. Daddy!" Keith chimed.
"Thank you for giving me such an amazing talent" Elijah added.
"Thank you for giving me a great family" Noah said.
"Thank you for all this mess" Norah said with a frown.
His brothers almost burst into laughter.
"Now, we invite you into our lives and accept You as king over our lives." Their father continued. "Come into our lives, take over all our souls, bodies and spirits, and our struggles and fortunes, all of them, we hand them over only into Your hands. We believe that in Your hand everything will be different. Since our lives have been severely damaged, turn us into persons according to Your image."
Elijah inhaled a lot of air to fill his lungs, his chest suddenly felt tight.
One more, from Koen van Allent—another subtle allusions.
Mental flick!
"Lord, you said that we might come to ask for what we need." Keith added. "I need a replacement for Mommy…"
"Keith!" His father and sisters interrupted in unison.
Silent.
Keith did not continue his prayer.
Noah took over, "I want friends who want me for who I am, not friends who want me based on their wishes."
"I want to be a racer" Elijah prayed. I want that rider, he hopes in his heart.
All eyes glanced at him.
"Want to be a musician?" His father spontaneously nodded.
"Yes" Elijah replied. "It was."
"Continue?" His father asked again, next to his eyebrows raised high.
"Main music makes me often punished!" reply Elijah, feel get enlightenment—launching mental flick of reply.
His father immediately fell silent.
"That's not a prayer!" norah protest interrupts.
"Okay, please, Young Miss!" His father said a little.
"Lord, I hope, I'm big fast so I can understand the adult world, amen!" Norah.
"Amen!" The whole room chimed.
His brothers clenched their mouths with laughter, while their father clenched his mouth in annoyance.
Then everyone let go of each other.
Koen van Allent immediately crossed his arms and looked at Elijah.
Elijah turned his body quickly, turned his back on everyone, then rushed towards his room.
But Elijah could feel their gazes burning on his back.
Elijah went into his room and locked the door. He replaced his shorts with taut, ripped jeans, put on a leather jacket and draped a guitar hardcase on his back, then turned off the lights and slipped out through the window, creeping down through the railing and pillar buffer balcony.
He had already used to do it whenever he had to come out at over ten o'clock in the night, so used to it that he was an expert at climbing pillars.
Within seconds, the girl had already landed in the courtyard beside her house. He patted his hands together to get rid of the dust, then turned around and gasped.
"Lea.." Keith knew that he was standing before him, growling and glaring at him while shaking his waist.
Elijah groaned while twirling his eyeballs.
"We're all punished for you, we can't go out for a week" Keith recalled.
"Sorry," whispered Elijah putting on a sorry face.
"Do you want our punishment plus our samples sent to the Amazon jungle?"
"That's not to say!"
"Gua's tired of lying to Daddy!" Keith hissing sharply.
"The cave's got a rehearsal, please!" Elijah begged his brother.
Keith groaned and rubbed his face roughly.
And Elijah saw it as a good sign.
As a fellow music lover, Keith could understand the practice was very important to Elijah. He can't ban it. It felt like a betrayal of his conscience.
Without waiting for Keith to answer, Elijah rushed to the corner of the yard and climbed over a two-meter-high wall fence, then landed right by the side of the road.
Simultaneously, an angkot flashed at that place.
Elijah stops him and sneaks onto the passenger bench.
Keith was still frozen in the yard, staring blankly at the wall fence where Lea was climbing. How'd he do it? Keith wondered in his heart. Then cluck and shake. Loud your life, Malih!
Meanwhile, Elijah's angkot has arrived in front of the studio.
Elijah poured into the yard with a sigh, greeted by the annoyed gazes of his friends on the park bench. "So–-sori.." he said gasping. "The condemned cave can't go out for a week" Elijah told as he bowed, holding his stomach, while one hand rested on the table.
"Hoaaaahhhmmmm.." Teak responded by yawning.
Juna turned his face away with a frown, raised both his legs to the table, and leaned his back against the back of the bench with both hands folded behind his head.
Devian sat up with his chin supported with his mouth clenched. A blade of grass was tucked into the corner of his lips.
Jimmy stood tilted against his shoulder on the tree trunk that houses the park bench where they sat clustered around a round table. Both of his hands were tucked in his pants pocket.
Wanda sat perched on a Devian motorcycle, not far from where Jimmy was standing.
Wanda is their keyboardist, full name Raden Putra Juanda. His body is high athletic and his hair is curly waist. His face was Arabic-Portuguese.
Jimmy is his cousin, their guitarist. His full name is Mohammad Adzami Ibrahim. His face is a typical taper of a migi doll, his skin is Asian white, his hair is straight as the jawline of a Korean boyband style. Compared to the others, Jimmy is the smallest guy in their group.
Wanda and Jimmy are Devian's age.
Jati is the same age as Arjuna.
Teak is their drummer. His full name is Jati Achmad. Commonly called Ijat. His body is tall and slim. Her hair is waist-length and curls are wavy. His face was thin and his chin was taper, but his lips were unusually wide.
Feel familiar?
Yes, if you are a loyal reader of the work of Author Jibril Ibrahim, you must be familiar with these figures!
But please note: Although the characters are the same, between one story and another story is not related, except the serial edition—multiple novels with the same title. Like: The Van Til House and Artland.
The rest, it has nothing to do.
Think of them as actors who play in different movies.
Why the hell, the character was-that's it?
Because only those who are willing to have their names broken.
