The little girl just shook her head weakly. Her small lips looked pale and also trembled because it had been cold for quite a long time. He kept looking at Graciella's motherly-looking face smiling at him.
“Your mother is not there?” ask Graciella. The little girl immediately nodded quickly. “How about dad?”
“My father is away working at that cafe. He asked me to wait here every day until he came home from work,” said the little girl plainly while pointing at the cafe that was originally wanted to be visited by Graciella and Xavier.
Graciella frowned, then she glanced at Xavier who also seemed to be staring at the little girl. The man only raised his flat face.
“Where is your home?” ask Xavier. It sounded a little flat so the little girl looked frightened looking at Xavier. He really isn't a guy who fits in with kids, Graciella thought.
“Do not be afraid, this uncle is not all that. Where's your house little girl?” graciella calmed the little girl who was still glancing in fear at Xavier. Graciella wiped the rainwater flowing from the little girl's hair.
“Since I don't work in a tall building, every night we live in a shelter,” said the girl who can be more open with Graciella.
Graciella stained her smile. This little girl has to live a pretty hard life in a city with a developed country like America. There was a feeling of sadness that immediately surrounded Graciella's heart.
Graciella never knew why, but she is now more sensitive when it comes to children, especially girls. Graciella always and easily felt sad. Somehow, even though sometimes he met a girl who was cheerful but the feeling always appeared.
“You hungry? Or want to drink something warm?” asked Graciella to tighten her sweater.
The girl just kept quiet. Looking at her small stomach. Actually his stomach has begun to sting, not to mention he is cold so that it makes his stomach even more painful. But his father said he had to wait here. If he left, he was afraid that his father would be confused looking for him.
“I'll just wait here. Thank you Madam,” said the girl politely.
“Why? You're so cold. A cup of hot chocolate will keep you warm,” said Graciella softly. Put the blisters behind the ears of this beautiful girl.
Xavier who saw and heard how Graciella handled this child became touched. Xavier doesn't know why? But whatever Graciella does makes her feel so warm and touching. Though all this time, she had never felt anything like this, let alone she had just gotten to know Graciella this morning. But I don't know why? Everything he did felt so effective. Feels so familiar to him.
“Dad will have trouble looking for me if I go with you,” said the girl.
Graciella smiled haru, she was so young but she could think about her father without following her wishes. A smart girl, forced to become an adult due to her circumstances.
“Your father works there, doesn't he? Coincidentally we also want to go there, what if drink and eat there?” ask Xavier who is trying to be more friendly so that the child is not afraid of him.
The big, brown eyeballs were staring at Xavier. Xavier tries to smile a little, but instead makes her face look cute to Graciella making her smile. Seeing Graciella chuckle made Xavier frown his forehead while glancing towards Graciella with a hint of sharpness, making Graciella instantly turn her face away. Is there anything funny?
The girl did not agree but also did not refuse when Graciella stuck out her hand, she immediately welcomed Graciella's hand. Graciella immediately smiled in maternal shade. The little girl immediately followed Graciella while occasionally looking towards Xavier who was following them from behind.
Graciella immediately opened the door of the cafe which was quite crowded. His eyes circled throughout the cafe to look for a seat that was fitting for the three of them. But unexpectedly the little girl instead let go of her hand grip from Graciella's hand and came to a man who appeared to wear a uniform and also an apron.
“Daddy!” said the little girl with passion.
“Angeline, what are you doing? It's not like Daddy told you to wait outside. Daddy is working! Why don't you obey!” said the man looked a little shocked and also with a high tone. Maybe he was surprised to see his daughter go inside the cafe to meet him. He was afraid that his boss would fire him because his daughter just walked in and bothered him to work.
The little girl who had seemed to cheerfully greet her father immediately lowered her gaze. From his face looked so disappointed with the first reaction from his father. He was happy to see his father, but his father scolded him. Graciella could see the change in face. Feeling sad and knowing the feelings of the little girl named Angeline.
“Sorry sir, but I brought him here. Your daughter is so obedient that she's rained and cold outside. She even refused when I invited her to eat and drink to warm her body. She just agreed that I brought her here because she was afraid that her father would have trouble finding her if we took her somewhere else. Sir, don't be angry with your son. She is a kind and smart girl,” said Graciella stroking Angeline's head which still seemed to lower her gaze.
The man standing in front of Graciella was instantly apologetic. He saw his daughter who still looked down. The man took his breath and squatted down in front of Angeline.
“I'm sorry Daddy, Daddy just doesn't want to lose this job so we don't have to live like this for so long. Angeline, Daddy promised, we'll live better yes, son,” said the man could finally speak more gently to Angeline who immediately nodded and hugged her father. Graciella just smiled happily.
As for Xavier, this matter did not not not touch him, but somehow, a glint appeared in his head. It seemed like he had once hugged a little girl so tightly. But again the flash was just a brief flash. Even though it is short, it always makes the head hurt.
“You all right?” said Graciella who saw Xavier's face seemed to change, looking a bit in pain.
“Ehm, it's okay. I'll sit there,” said Xavier who hurriedly headed to a place in the corner of the cafe near the wall of the glass barrier.
Graciella just frowned looking at Xavier's strange behavior. But his attention was back on Angeline.
“Master, I'll take your daughter there. Can you serve us?” ask Graciella again immediately holding Angeline's hand.
“Sure Madam, soon I will bring her menu to you and Mr.”, said the man who looked so reluctant to see Graciella. Graciella simply nodded and immediately brought Angeline towards Xavier who was holding her head. Graciella knew the man had a headache.
“Are you okay?” graciella asked as she sat Angeline in the chair next to her. Graciella sat in front of Xavier.
Xavier immediately looked towards Graciella with a deep frown on her head. Xavier could not answer whether he was okay or not. But every time he closed his eyes, the shadow of him tightly hugging the little girl reappeared, and the feeling was so uncomfortable. It was just as uncomfortable when Xavier saw the wound on Graciella's cheek. One of the things that made him very curious about this woman.
"Have you ever known me?" xavier's question suddenly made Graciella startled and frowned.
