The Obsolete Bond

The Obsolete Bond
The Boat that Rams

Elton was just about to go for dinner when his phone rang. His eyes sparkled with delight when he found out Sarah was calling him. But her happiness instantly turned to panic when all she heard was Sarah's crying voice across the phone.

"I need you, El." Sarah said softly.

And Elton's heart went hunting with a sense of panic. She was afraid something might happen to Sarah. Why is this woman crying so hard? What did he just experience?

As fast as lightning Elton spurred his bike to the location shared by Sarah through whatsapp. Mind raging. Fear rules him. Can't Sarah be beaten by Dito? And other theories abound as he drives to where Sarah is.

After 10 minutes of speeding, Elton finally found Sarah's car. Parked alone in the courtyard of a minimarket. Elton got off his bike and knocked on Sarah's windshield. Sarah looked at him and opened the lock.

"What's up, Sarah?" Elton asked frantically as he entered the car and sat down next to Sarah.

How shocked Elton saw Sarah's puffy and swollen eyes due to tears and her lips were shaking from her crying. But what makes Elton more stunned is Sarah's reddish cheeks. Like a slap there.

Elton raised his hand and touched the reddish marks on Sarah's cheek.

"God..." Sarah grimaced in pain.

Elton was so sorry to see this woman in front of him. The woman he loved, whom he worshipped every day, whom he dreamed of every night, was now smashed to pieces before him. No matter how many liters of tears had been spilled from Sarah's eyes, it seemed that even Elton could not stop it.

"Why Sarah?" Ask Elton slowly.

Sarah's crying broke back. She hugged Elton and cried at the shoulder of Elton. Elton responded by holding Sarah in his arms. His hands were stroking Sarah's back. Trying to calm him down even though Elton knew it was futile.

"I want a divorce, El. I can't live this rich life anymore." Sarah tergugu.

Elton did not ask and did not demand Sarah to explain her point. He just let Sarah cry. He shed all his emotions until he couldn't cry anymore.

After her crying subsided, Elton held Sarah's shoulder and looked at Sarah's eyes straight away. The two beautiful eyes that Elton had always looked at with a flowery heart, were now swollen and reddened by tears.

"You want to tell me what happened?" Elton asked quietly while rubbing Sarah's cheek. Trying to wipe away her tears.

Sarah finally opened her mouth, recounting every incident, every word, and every accusation Dito threw at her. Starting from Dito's accusation that Sarah is having an affair with Elton, Dito who is hesitant with the child in Sarah's womb, to Dito's slap that not only hurts Sarah's cheek but also her heart.

Elton was very angry. He was angry with Dito for treating the woman he always kept like this bad porcelain. How could Dito doubt the morale of a woman he's known for more than 10 years with just one incitement? Elton, who had only known him for a month, had always believed in Sarah's morals and loyalty. Even Elton was ready to be a witness to the sanctity of Sarah's love for Dito.

But Elton is more angry with himself for not being able to protect Sarah from the cruelty of life. Elton's breath was hunting out of emotion. Sarah noticed a change in Elton's countenance and seemed to understand the emotions of the man in front of her.

"El, what's wrong with you?" Sarah asked as she touched Elton's face gently. His other hand touched Elton's chest, feeling Elton's heart racing with the roar of his breath.

"I'll teach Dito a lesson." Elton answered with emotion.

Sarah shook. He took Elton's hands into his hands. Sarah's fingers gently caressed her.

"Ga need, El. You don't have to waste your time on that rich thing." Sarah's Pinta on Elton.

"There's nothing else to save from my marriage, El. Why survive if all I get is a wound?" Guman Sarah.

"But what is your son? It's Dito's son too, he has to take responsibility, Sarah." Elton reminded.

"Better my son is great without his father, El. Instead of him having a father who can't be fair with him and his half-brother. I can raise my own son, El." Sarah said slowly.

Elton breathed. Oh my God, how hard this woman's life is. If Elton can take that burden so Sarah can live happily.

"So what do you want now?" Ask Elton.

Sarah was silent for a moment. His head thought about the best solution. He finally found his solution.

"I'm going back to Semarang, El."

...****************...

"Your stuff is ready, Sarah?" Ask Elton. He kept on accompanying Sarah. He did not calm down if he had to take this woman off alone.

"Already El, you calm down. Gih go home there, you already from the morning nemenin I lo." Sarah said with a smile.

"Ga can, I can't calm you're alone in this rich condition." Elton was full of worry.

"That's okay, Elton. Really. I checked in and kept coming in. You rest huh? Go home and rest. You have to work tomorrow." Sarah looked at the worried looking face of Elton while touching her cheek.

Elton was silent. He could no longer reason to stay at the airport with Sarah.

"If you're here, you're telling me." Elton's message to Sarah.

Sarah nodded. He hugged Elton tightly. Elton hugged him back. Sarah looks so small in Elton's arms that it's as big as a teddy bear.

"There's so much El for everything. Because it's always there for me, because it always helps me, and because it wants to be my only friend. I'm gonna miss you, El." Sarah said slowly.

I'm Sarah too. Maybe I'll go crazy because you're not next to me anymore. Elton.

Check-in calls for passengers were voiced and Sarah rushed to the departure terminal. With a heavy heart Elton waved his hand to take Sarah off. The further the figure ran, the greater the longing that had slipped into Elton's heart. But let all this happen. Maybe this is the best solution for everyone.

At 2 p.m., the plane that was about to take Sarah back to her hometown took off. Sarah looked towards the buildings that were getting smaller and changed into clouds. He never thought this would be his life story. Betrayed by the only man she loves. Even to the last drop of his tears the man did not show the slightest regret.

Good bye Ambon.

The city where my married life began and ended.

The city where the greatest betrayal happened to me.

And the town where the boat I always fought for was wrecked.

Thanks for all the memories. I say goodbye and probably won't set foot here again.

...****************...

Sarah finally set her foot back to her hometown. It feels like he has been very homesick with the air of Semarang which although feels dry but for him always warms the heart. Sarah has fallen. His heart was broken and full of wounds. He had nowhere else to go but into his mother's arms.

"Ma? The mama? Baim?" Greet Sarah as she enters her childhood home.

It just so happened that the day her mother and sister were at home. Hearing her daughter's voice, Mama Sarah immediately ran towards the door. He was confused as to why his daughter could suddenly be here.

"Well, Sarah? How come you're not going to tell me, Nduk?" Ask her mother confused.

Sarah just smiled faintly.

"Im, get down here, Nang. Your mother's coming home!" Mom Sarah called her second child.

"Where's Dito, Nduk? Not coming with you, right?" Ask her mother dizzy looking for her daughter-in-law.

Shortly after, the figure of Sarah's sister, Baim who was fattening down half ran over to her brother.

"Oh mbak, why don't you say if you want to go home? Well, sampeyan can't pick me up." Baim hugged his brother.

Sarah sat in the living room of her house and took her mother and sister to sit nearby. The two looked confused and simply obeyed Sarah without asking much. But the biggest question in the heads of her mother and sister was just one. Where's Dito?

Sarah smiled weakly and said quietly.

"There's a lot I have to tell Mama about Baim."
