SEASON 2 - ALEA: Chapter 46

NETHERLANDS

"You remember how many years the Dutch colonized our country?" rangga asked as he took his daughter to visit the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam.

Founded in 1864, the Tropenmuseum is one of the largest ethnographic and anthropological museums in Amsterdam. The museum houses a collection of historical objects from former Dutch colonial countries, including Indonesia. On one side of the building there is a relief that tells the history of how the Dutch people sailed through the oceans and continents to get to Indonesia.

The museum also stores various paintings, puppets, musical instruments, sculptures, ancient weapons, textile artifacts, and Indonesian spices are also exhibited in this museum. One of the most interesting is the museum also exhibits a collection of photos and videos about Indonesia in the Dutch colonial era. The Tropenmuseum is believed to be the most abundant museum in Indonesia.

" 3.5 centuries, then in Japan for 3.5 years and finally Indonesia successfully proclaimed its independence" Alea replied.

Rangga and his daughter went to the 1st floor, where the Indonesian collection (Dutch Indies) was located together with collections from India and Southeast Asia. Once out of the elevator door, the two were greeted by Dutch mannequins tempo doeloe. The life story of each figure displayed there can be followed by an audio guide.

Their journey continues to the left, where they both see Kartini's Mother's collection, including the book Door duisternis tot licht the third print.  On the other hand Alea looked at the slate following his equipment.

"Wow" Alea was amazed to see the slate, unthinkable for him if people had to have a strong memory.

Rangga smiled at the expression of his daughter, he invited his daughter to look to the right side which contained several paintings on the wall themed Oost Indie by Dutch painters.

"Wow, apparently Bali has become an interesting painting object in the 17th century" Alea said. He saw the Balinese girl in the painting covered with bare chest.

" Hmm I wonder if in those days they were like that or the creativity of the painter?" tanyakanya.

"We never know, we just go there yuk" answered Rangga, he invited his daughter into the next room, a very striking feature is the head of a buffalo with very long horns. They went around in this room, observing one by one the collection of flora and fauna there, Alea only realized how rich the biodiversity of the country.

" It is fitting that the VOC was fascinated and 'at home' living in Indonesia, after finding spices, they did research to explore further, with the aim of increasing the amount of profit" Alea said.

"Why do we realize now that our country is so fascinating?" ask Rangga.

"Last semester, take me to Sumba yes, Dad" Alea pinta.

"Yes, we're going to travel around Indonesia"

"Thank you Dad"

Satisfied to go around the Tropenmuseum, Rangga invited his daughter to tour the Amsterdam canal by cruise, initially Rangga offered his daughter using a private boat but Alea refused him he wanted to travel with other tourists.

"Seriously Dad, come on!!" Alea invites his father to enter the wrong canal cruise

From the top of the canal cruise Alea saw a number of buildings that became the attraction of the city, the ship with large glass windows to the ceilings make it easier for them to enjoy the panoramic view of Amsterdam.

One of the spots that caught Alea's attention was the old building that stood along the canal. These buildings were once residential homes. During the industrial revolution, many homes are turning into offices, shops, and even warehouses without changing their shape. Some houses there are already too sloping, it happens because of shifting land and also the old age of the building.

Alea seemed cool to see the kicking around, while Rangga seemed busy photographing his daughter.

"Dad, why did I keep taking pictures of me?" Alea Protest.

"Dad wants to have many memories with you, before you grow up and have a companion" said Rangga.

"I will continue to be by your side Father, I will look for a man who not only loves me but also loves Dad and always prays for Mom" Alea stroked his father's hand, he understood his father's concern if he would leave him.

Not only visiting the two places, Rangga invited his daughter to visit Kinderdijk Village, a village located in the Province of the Southern Netherlands, precisely in the Alblasserwaard area.

If from the city of Rotterdam, this village is about 15 km away, the main attraction of this village is the existence of a giant traditional windmill. This village also gets the designation as a village of 1000 mill because it has a large number of windmills.

Windmills in Kinderdijk Village have been around since the 1740s. Amazingly, until now all windmills in the village are still functioning normally.

"Lea let's take a photo first"

"After Dad, I was looking at my campus announcement" Alea seemed busy with her Handphone, not long after Alea shouted "My father is accepted...." Alea hugged her father tightly.

"You know, that's the announcement at 00:00 last night, I saw it"

"Bad, why didn't you tell me?" alea asked irritatedly as she moved her lips, making Rangga very anxious to pinch her daughter's chuubby cheeks.

"You look a lot like Mom, if you snack like this" Rangga embraced his daughter continued her journey "Today is our last day of vacation, tomorrow we return to Germany and you are ready to focus on college" said Rangga.

"Ready Dad"
