Umji squirms in his sleep. Not long his eyes opened. He grabbed his cell phone at a small bedside table. Check what time it is.
"I woke up too soon" he muttered, staring at the cell phone that showed me at five in the morning.
Usually the new Umji will wake up at six in the morning which will be continued with the activity of preparing for the office. But he woke up an hour earlier.
Umji's head was a little sore and his neck muscles were a little tense. He also did a little stretching which continued with a glass of water.
Have plenty of time before you go to work. Umji decided to make kimchi fried rice instead of eating toast as breakfast as usual.
When he finished making his breakfast menu, Umji decided to enjoy it while reading one of Mino's selected manuscripts yesterday. He decided to read in front of the script. A kind of prologue, but also not a complete synopsis.
Song Byul, a woman who wants to escape her life. He was unable to accept the reality before him. The man she loves Kim Raewon, has been gone forever, leaving wounds that may never heal.
Then came Leo, the man he thought had taken Raewon from him. Without shame come propose her----
Umji stopped reading as soon as his phone rang. He picked up a phone from an unknown number.
''Good morning, who?''
''It's me Mino. I changed my old phone number.''
''What's up?''
''You forgot something in my car.''
''What is it?''
''Little note book.''
Dahi Umji frowned trying to remember what little book he had. As he remembered, he never brought a small book containing a daily schedule or a list of manuscripts that he had to translate. But he could also be mistaken, given the busyness that just started last week post-recovery.
''I'll pick it up at the office later.''
''I have to get to the airport early in the morning. I'll take you to your apartment. Maybe in thirty minutes I'll go there.''
''Oh alright.''
Umji immediately finished his breakfast and closed the script he had read. He had to shower. It would be rude to meet Mino in such a disheveled state as now.
After the shower and wash your face. Umji stared at the mirror in front of the sink that was still in the bathroom. He wiped the dew of the rest of the bath water on the mirror. Without blinking, he looked at his own face. Closely watch. I don't know why he felt so strange to himself. But he doesn't know what it is.
Mino comes not only with Umji's little notebook, but also a still-warm cup of coffee that he seems to buy from the cafe. Seeing something brought by Mino, Umji happily invited the man in.
Mino decided to sit down at a small dining table where there were even only two small wooden chairs facing each other. He placed the small notebook he held near the coffee.
"I didn't disturb your morning, did I?"
"Of course not."
Umji sat down and took a sip of coffee from Mino. He smiled after feeling the bitter taste with the right sweetness.
"What about the script I recommended yesterday?" ask Mino.
"I just read some of it on the front page. I think it'll be interesting enough."
"I'm leaving. See you soon."
"Thank you."
The door locks automatically so closed that Umji does not need to close it manually. He then turned to look at his little notebook. I don't know why he felt so foreign to it. The book was opened but there was only one.
Rose 408's.
Umji felt increasingly unsure it was his. I don't think he ever wrote anything like that. Writing that is too unique to be forgotten. But he also did not want to call Mino back, considering the man was heading to the airport. Maybe if someone else was looking for that little notebook then Mino could go straight for it.
Waking up earlier than usual makes Umji also come to the office earlier than before. No other part of the novel has come. He saw the script he had read this morning. Deliberately took him after remembering Mino again talking about it when he came to his apartment.
Without shame come propose to him. His father, who owed a debt of gratitude to the man's family, received it without Song Byul's consent.
Although it was only a day after her marriage, Song Byul decided to end his life.
Umji's eyebrows shot up as soon as he read the 'suicide' section, he felt a little uncomfortable. The door opened, distracting him. Just like any other office door. The office where Umji works must also use an identifier that is integrated with the barcode too so that it can open when attached to the scanner.
"Oh you came early" Park Jini said as soon as she saw Umji.
"I woke up early as well" Umji replied stating the reason.
Park Jini just nodded her head. He walked to his workplace. A minute later, sitting there, he stood up.
"Let's go to the cafeteria, my stomach is hungry. There's nothing I can eat at home."
"All right."
Umji's intention to go to the cafeteria wasn't to eat. More to get some fresh air. The sky was bright, the sunlight directly penetrated the window glass of the cafeteria which was indeed transparent.
"Are you sure you don't want to eat?" tanya Jini stuffed the waffle into her mouth.
Umji shook his head slowly. "I had breakfast before I got here."
"Why did you break up with Mino?" tanya Umji continued.
Jini who will drink the milk packaging box, put it back. Cancel the drink and then turn to look at Umji.
"You're really funny."
Umji's expression turned confused. He knows that he and Park Jini are not close friends. They were only together for about four years in the same office. They are just coworkers who know enough about each other's personalities.
"I don't want to talk about anything that bothers my mood. I go first," said Jini to go first.
Umji took a deep breath. He regretted the question enough, but was confused as to why Jini seemed upset with him. Did the break-up between Jini and Mino have anything to do with her? He does not know, coma seems to make himself lose a lot of moments.
Umji looked at his watch. There is still time before office hours. He chose to reach into his pants pocket, looking for a cell phone to simply read morning news articles or surf social media. Next to his eyebrows raised as he saw Mino's instagram story. He realized that the man had gone to the United States. The state of New York.
Umji sees that right visited by Mino is one of the universities that are there. He himself wondered what Mino as the editor came there for. But he did not want to think too much about it and chose to put his phone back and then move to his workplace.
