Stories of the Past

The sun began to lean west. Guided by maps, the taxi that Gintani boarded finally arrived at the Mutiara Bunda orphanage. After paying his taxi fare, Gintani immediately went down and entered the spacious courtyard of the parlour.

"Excuse me, Dek!" greet Gintani to the orphanage children who are playing in the front yard.

The children turned to Gintani.

"Does anyone know who owns this orphanage?" gintani asked the children.

The five children who were playing, looked at each other. However, a girl who was the tallest among them, took a few steps toward Gintani.

"Sister, Miss Ningsih?" ask the boy.

Gintani scrunched his forehead, the name seemed familiar to his ears. This further strengthens Gintani's determination to meet the owner of this orphanage.

"Ah, yes ... Ms Ningsih, is there?" ask Gintani again.

"Bu Ningsih is in his office, sister" replied the little boy.

"Emmh ... whose office is next door, huh?" Gintani asked again.

"Come on, I'll take you!" The little boy volunteered to drive Gintani to Bu Ningsih's office.

After walking a few meters, they finally arrived at the office of the foundation chairman. The little boy knocked on the office door, then opened it.

"Assalamu'alaikum ma'am, can Ima come in?" The boy named Ima asked permission politely.

"Yes, Ma. Just enter!" the Bu Ningsih Order.

"This is Mom, there is a Brother who wants to see Mom," said Ima.

Bu Ningsih frowned as soon as she saw Gintani. He slightly lowered his glasses, until finally the myopic old eye was seen glazed when recognizing the person in front of him.

"Ma?" said Ms. Ningsih, lirih.

Gintani frowned. The na? Whose name exactly is he calling, Inner Gintani.

"Na.., O Allah, you are Nia, right?" tanya Bu Ningsih approached and directly grabbed Gintani into his arms.

Although not understanding, Gintani felt the same warmth from his embrace. But where is it? Wh who?

Ma-Sorry, my Mom ... emm .. actually, my name is not Na, but Gintan" Gintani said.

Bu Ningsih loosened his embrace. For a moment he looked at Ima and told her to return to play.

"Sit down, Na!"

Ms. Ningsih took Gintani to the guest table. They then sat side by side.

"Mother knows, your full name is Gintania Nur'aini. Bu Ati always calls you Nia. But since you were a child and still learning to speak, you called yourself Na. From then on, everyone who was in this parlour called you Na. By the way, why did you just come here. Did your grandfather not allow you to visit us here?" ask Bu Ningsih.

Gintani is increasingly clueless as to what the middle-aged woman before him is saying. At least he did not remember what the woman had just said.

"Sorry Mom, Gintan's coming here, actually ... Gintan wants to find out the truth about this." Gintani took out an envelope containing an adoption permit, and handed the envelope to the woman.

Ms. Ningsih received the envelope and opened it. A moment later he clenched his forehead. "What's with this letter, Na?" asked Bu Ningsih, astonished.

"So right, Gintan once lived here then was adopted by the Wira's grandfather?" gintani asked with a feeling of uncertainty.

"I'm sorry Gintan Bu, but Gintan can't remember anything. And grandpa ... Grandfather never told Gintan's past at all" replied Gintani.

"Look, Na. You have lived here. Even the mother herself takes care of you from the baby. The owner of this home, whose name is Ati's mother, finds you at the doorstep of the home. However, when you were 5 years old, suddenly there was a man who claimed to be your grandfather. Ati initially doubted that. But after he saw the evidence he brought. Ati gave you to him.

"Is he the grandfather of the Hero?" ask Gintani.

Bu Ningsih nodded.

"Did he tell you who Gintan's birth parents were?" ask Gintani again.

"Yes, he told me everything about your biological parents. According to his confession, your father died while you were still in your mother's womb. Feeling unable to give you a decent life, your mother ended up putting you in front of this home. Your grandfather's accidental meeting with your mother took place. Until in the end, your mother entrusts you to your grandfather" replied Ms. Ningsih.

"Where is my mother? Where the hell is he?" Gintani asked

"She said your mother was dead. Therefore he picked you up on a will from your mother" replied Ms. Ningsih

Gintani's heart seemed to stop beating hearing Bu Ningsih's words. Now, he was even more convinced that he was living a single kara in this world.

"Have Na, don't be sad like that. You should be grateful that you still have an amazing grandfather. He loves you very much, Na" said Ms. Ningsih, consoling Gintani.

"But ... Wira's grandfather is dead, Mom," said Gintani, sad.

Ms. Ningsih was shocked to hear Gintani's words.

"Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. I'm sorry for your grandfather's passing, Na" said Ms. Ningsih.

Gintani. "Thank you, Mom."

"Then, why can't you remember anything about your past in this place, Na?" asked Bu Ningsih, curious

"Before Gintan apologized, ma'am. Everything is beyond Gintan's will. Grandfather said, Gintan had an accident a year after Gintan lived with his grandfather," replied Gintani.

"Astaghfiullah! So that's why you never came here? Have you lost your memory?" ask Bu Ningsih again.

"Come, Ma. Gintan does not know, but sometimes, the shadows of two young children often appear in Gintan's memory. Does Gintan have any close friends here?" ask Gintani, curious.

"You're a jolly boy. Almost all of your friends here, really like you, Na," replied Ms. Ningsih.

"Not anyone closer, ma'am?" Gintani asked again.

Bu Ningsih shook his head.

"Come on Ma'am, a pair of little children always come to Gintan's mind. But Gintan doesn't know who they are. Aargh!" Gintani holds his head as he returns to thinking about the boy.

Bu Ningsih hugged Gintani's shoulder. "That's Na, don't think too much. Better, now you rest. Come on, I'll take you to the room! Tomorrow we continue our conversation again" said Ms. Ningsih.

Gintani. He decided to stay at the home in the hope of finding clues about who the little ones would often cross his mind.

Arriving at his room, Gintani put his tote bag in the closet. He began to observe the restroom. The room that was possible if she did not lose her memory, would give her fond memories of her childhood.
