FOUR SEASONS

FOUR SEASONS
Summer (Part 3)

Tonight the moon is shining perfectly. Her graceful white light touched all the surfaces of the earth. And far above the top of the mountain there, at the top of the tallest pine tree, Kai sat on one of the sturdy branches, staring at the moon with a reverent gaze.

"When we humans are in the heat, somehow the moon appears more beautiful, bigger, and more luminous. Does that happen to a creature like you?" Caspian suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

Kai ogah. Since then he had realized that the legless ghost was hovering over him from a distance of several tens of meters. But because today the mood was good, he chose to ignore.

"So, how was that?" Caspian asked in a mischievous tone. His right eyebrow twitched comically, up and down. His current expression was really asking to be poked.

"Go there." Kai flicked his five fingers, expelling this one sksd creature.

But Caspian never gave up. He switched positions as fast as lightning, right in front of Kai's face. Then with a wide grin he asked again,

"Is she pretty?"

Kai blinked. The caramel mane that flew in the wind and the jade eyes that narrowed kindly were real in the shadow of the moon.

"Is she pretty?" Caspian repeated the question, raising his eyebrows again.

"Not bad."

Caspian whistled loudly and then broke up a moment later. "Then, what happened again?"

"We picked flowers."

The legless ghost was suddenly dumb. His jaw opened, almost falling to the ground.

Plucking flowers? This creature in front of him was a demon that about three weeks ago still liked to swallow humans. And now he's picking flowers? Huh huh?

Not yet exhausted his surprise, the figure who was still relaxed sitting leaning on the size of the pine trunk added.

"He gave me a name too."

"Huh?"

"Kai. I'm Kai.." Said steady.

Caspian was again attacked by a prolonged inner shock. He said he picked flowers, and now he has a name?!

It even turns out that the devil can be this ridiculous when in love.

Caspian again glanced at Kai who was still faithful staring at the moon. The kasmaran people.

"So, what's the girl's name?"

Kai reflexes turned. His attention was drained. His frown furrowed, his eyes twirled in confusion, drowning in a huge question mark. What's the girl's name?

Caspian who saw the gawagat of the man in front of him then squinted his cynical eyes.

"Didn't you ask what his name is?"

"I forgot."

"God! You guys picked flowers for hours. He even gave you a name. And you forgot to ask what his name was?"

Let alone Caspian, Kai himself was suddenly confused. Why didn't he ask that? And why did the girl not willingly tell?

"When did you meet again?"

"Tomorrow."

"Okay, get some rest now. Tomorrow when you meet, don't forget to ask her name." Said Caspian, with a thin smile decorate the face.

Suddenly he felt funny. In the past every time he approached this man, he always had to be driven out cruelly. Or even get punched in those black and dirty sharp claws. It doesn't hurt, it's just the soft feeling of being hurt!

But look at it now? He changed caste to become a love advisor.

On the other hand, Kai felt that he would not be able to rest peacefully tonight. The question sentence kept circling in his mind, making him feel like guessing all night, what was the name of the girl?

***

Tomorrow morning the girl arrived first. He was talking to the sunflower as his eyes caught the shadow of a man coming out of the forest.

Fortunately Kai took the initiative to pretend his way from the forest, instead of darting down from the sky.

He could see the girl leaping around merrily, also waving her hands excitedly. And when he got there, the girl immediately greeted him with a question.

"Is your village behind that forest?"

"Yes, behind the forest there is a river, then a forest, then a lake, then a forest, then a hill, then a forest, and yes, there is a small village."

The jade-eyed girl brought her face closer. His eyes stared intently and his eel shriveled suspiciously.

"You lied again, didn't you?"

"Sokot know." He said, then snatched the wicker basket in the girl's grasp. "Today's the red flower again right?" He said as he went first, trying to lead the way.

"It's poppy." The little girl ran after him, aligning her steps. Then, start telling this and that story with a big smile expanding perfectly.

"Do you know why the poppies should be used for the knight's memorial day?"

Kai sniffed his shoulders, then with a half-confused expression he replied, "I don't even know what a knight's memorial day is."

"Oh! oh! I haven't told you." The girl patted her head while laughing. "I told ya. So, three hundred and fifty years ago our village was often hit by disasters. Earthquakes, landslides, floods, and hurricanes occasionally ravage villages, sometimes even claiming lives. The village shaman has held rituals for the gods but things never change."

Kai nodded, half-sniffing him saying, "The gods don't help much sometimes."

This sentence could be the background of his enmity with them.

"Then the village shaman felt that there was no other way, the girl continued, "He decided to ask the devil for help."

Until here Kai jerks. He glanced at the girl who was still telling stories with the spirit of four five. Demon said?

"They made a secret covenant that made the devil agree. At first everything went well. Disasters in the village disappeared one by one, but then another bad thing happened. Children in the village began to disappear one by one. You know why?" The girl looked to the side.

He was confused when there was no one beside him. Immediately looking back, he found the man he was looking for left behind, staring in any direction.

"What are you doing there?" The girl called, shaking her five fingers.

Kai sighed, then approached slowly. He doesn't like this story.

"Well, where was I?" The girl touched her chin confused.

"Children in the village are missing one by one."

"Oh right!" He snapped his finger. "Village children began to disappear one by one, but no one knew the cause. After that, the virginal girls began to disappear one by one. The villagers began to be suspicious of the agreement made by the shaman. After being forced, the shaman finally told him that he promised to let the devil take a villager whenever one disaster was averted."

"Then?"

"Then the villagers were very angry. Who wants our family members to be eaten by the devil, right?" His jade eyes stared at the black bead firmly, "The atmosphere of the village also became gripping. The eldest son of the village chief could not bear this situation. He decided to fight the demon. He formed an army, initially a little long into a hill! All the villagers agreed to fight together."

"What is the number of your citizens?" Kai flatly replied. What war if the number of personnel is small.

"It's not about numbers!" The girl exclaimed. He clasped Kai's wrist tightly. "It's about optimism. A fighting spirit for life." He said, with a blazing fire in his eyes.

"Well, fine," Kai let go of his hand, then ruffled the girl's hair again. "Then what happened?"

"This is definitely not a fair war. Of course the villagers always suffered defeat. There are so many casualties that the number of residents is getting smaller. Even so, no one is sorry."

"Why?"

A red poppy that looks so lively when hit by sunlight cuts across the story. They've reached the poppy field.

"Because" the girl's voice sank so quietly, "It's better to die on the battlefield by fighting than to just let our family and friends die one by one."

Kai looked up at the blue sky. Senseless feelings of guilt suddenly stirred his heart.

He never thought about what the family or friends of the humans he ate felt. He didn't really understand what loss was.

Eat yes eat. It is exactly like a daily need. Wait, he doesn't eat every day.

Actually, he has another menu. Forest nymph or Centauri's son. But the forest Nymphs are so good at hiding, and the number of Centauri is getting scarcer and scarcer. The last centauri he met was already two hundred years old. The meat was too hard and he had no appetite for it.

On the other hand, humans are countless weak beings. They are scattered on the face of the earth and multiply rapidly. This makes them a strategic choice to eat. So don't blame him.

Kai sighed, silently considering whether he really should look for another meal.

The girl, strumming the poppy, continued the story, "In a prolonged war, the situation worsened. The villagers were getting fewer and fewer, the rivers were starting to dry up, the grasslands were yellowing, the flowers were wilting as if all of them were signs of death for this village. But in the midst of desperation, this red poppy flower grew decisively. They grow up in these difficult circumstances, and even multiply continuously. It miraculously gives the spirit of life to all the villagers. Whenever they wanted to give up, they remembered this poppy, and they got excited again. The red poppy that shines brightly also seems to provide boundless courage. Finally, the warriors managed to drive the demons out of the village." The girl closed the story with her signature smile.

"So," Kai looked at the pile of poppies in the basket, "This red flower is sacred to you?"

"Right," The girl nodded, "When the demon was successfully expelled from the village, the eldest son of the village chief thanked the poppy flower. Since then, we have always commemorated the day by placing poppies in temples and in tombs, as well as washing them in rivers, or displaying them in houses."

"It must be a great day."

"All the happiness on the day of remembrance is intended entirely as a tribute to the warriors who managed to drive the demons out of the village. For eternity."

Kai's eyebrows go up one. He noticed the face of the jade-eyed girl beaming.

"For ever?" He's parroted, with no answer.

But I'm still here.
