Chapter 15: The Founding Fathers

Seven Sins, or so the people call the seven founding families of the Corthia Empire.

In an era of chaos, the seven families are among the clans that have the greatest influence so it is said to be able to control the direction of chaos that occurs throughout the world.

Nouvelle, Schwarz, Renesse, Lawrence, Avarie, Osborne, and Leinster. Each of these families represents one of the seven major sins.

Nouvelle, vanity; Avarie, greed; Lawrence, anger; as well as Osborne, gluttony; only four of the seven great imperial families remain. Various reasons have been the reason for the destruction of several families of the founders of the empire in the past.

KLANG!

Two swords clashed against each other. Each one was grasped with an incredible magic radiance from its users.

The girl's yellow eyes lit up, her long white hair fluttering, the impact of her reflexes dodging the attacks aimed directly at her back.

TRANGS!

The two blades of the sword again touched each other. The thin-bearded man who became the training partner of the girl smiled wryly, feeling a little amazed by the growth of the girl.

His stature was high, his handsome face showed that he was still in his fresh age. From her appearance, she had characteristics that were almost similar to that of the girl opposite her training, white hair with yellowish-colored eyes.

Leon and Selene, holders of the title "Rapha" in the middle of their names, indicate both were members of the most influential family in the empire.

"You're growing, Selene." Leon relaxed his attitude, sincerely praising his sister who came from the same mother as him.

"Thank you, Brother." Bowing respectfully, Selene expressionlessly showed her gratitude. For him, this exercise routine is nothing more than to show if the relationship is in a state of "good."

Leon turned around, leaving the training ground followed by his guards. However, his steps came to a halt as a knight knelt right outside the door of the training hall.

"What's wrong?" Wrinkles appeared, impropriety had occurred when his spy knight rushed to meet him at the training ground.

"Mo—sorry for my sassness, Your Majesty! We have a magic transmission that tells us that the Arcadia Army has been completely annihilated!" The kneeling knight restrained his trembling self, he himself did not believe the information he had received.

"Then?" Leon looked calm, predicting that the imperial main force that came as reinforcements should be able to wipe out the existence of the Arcadia army, "I myself had predicted that the main force could solve the border problem."

"Na—but!"

"What?" The reaction of the soldier who had a strange gawk made Leon aware that if his prediction did not end right, the frown on his forehead grew bigger and bigger, "Tell me."

"Itu—it wasn't done by the main team.. na—namun... by Light himself..." The knight's answer changed Leon's gaze, now the look on his face really showed a deep darkness.

The reporting knight closed his eyes, his entire body trembling. Afraid, he knew that his death might have been in sight.

Taps.

Taps.

However, Leon was unaware of the existence of a terrifying smile painted behind him. Selene is thoroughly enjoying her family's show that will go awry after they find out that Light has failed to get killed.

Far away at the borders of the kingdom, the burly middle-aged man with his blond hair raised upwards stared at the scene before him with a gaze full of inevitability.

Decades of experience wearing light white armor signified that he was the leader of one of the highest orders of imperial knights as if unable to comprehend something that was happening in front of him.

Gilbert Lawrence, or the imperial enemy would refer to him as the "White Knight," speechless. The only plausible explanation to explain the scene before him was the answer Light had just given.

"You're saying that all this was caused by Arcadia using forbidden magic?" Gilbert doubted what Light had said. There is no way a small country like Arcadia would do something that would make the Church pay attention to them.

"If I could have recorded the incident, then I would have actually recorded it and given the evidence to you, General." Light insisted, he was unable to find any other reasonable reason, "I won't be able to say anything more if you don't trust the eyewitnesses who have answers similar to mine."

Light who was standing right beside Gilbert looked like a child talking to a fearsome war veteran who had a body full of scars. At the very least, it was the impression of the officers behind them upon seeing the two standing side by side.

"Hmmm..." Gilbert went down the sloping ruined ground. Accompanied by some of his subordinate officers, he approached the area where the miasma could be slightly felt.

"General." The subordinate with a star on his shoulder called out to Gilbert who was kneeling to check the condition of the ground, "Although I have a little doubt, there is no reasonable explanation other than what the boy just said. And also, if you continue to maintain this kind of non-objective attitude after the confessions of the eyewitnesses, the good name of our order will be tarnished."

Knight order—including the Lawrence— Familycertainly do not know of Nouvelle's rotten plan that desires to kill Light. The past and the plan for the removal of the entire Renesse lineage were completely sealed within the palace.

"We also feel it is the right thing to do at this time, General. As long as we haven't gotten a strong chronology and supporting evidence, we should stick with that revelation for a while and do analysis in the surrounding area to get the truth."

The subordinates give input. None of them believed that Arcadia would use forbidden magic, but no other answer could explain how the massive fortress stood firm and the surrounding plains were destroyed.

"Well, I'll hold on to what the boy said for a while. Then, what about the transmission of magic to the palace?" Gilbert gave up, he got up and stared at the ruins of the fortress.

"The intelligence unit has done it right after we arrived at the border" replied one of the subordinate officers.

"so." Gilbert went back up the ramps where Light stood. The two stared at each other in silence for a moment.

There was a longing that was reflected in the eyes, the regret that arises is also really deep in Gilbert's heart when he sees Light who reminds him of one of his colleagues who is the former Head of the Renesse Family and the late brother of Light's mother in the past.

"Your uncle is a great man, son." Gilbert smiled sadly.

"Sister of my mother?" Light slightly tilted his head.

"True..if only he had not rebelled..." Gilbert's attention turned to the Rhine Mountains. His gaze far away, Light felt Gilbert's deep yearning for his uncle, "Maybe he will accompany me to drink tonight and boast of his valiant nephew while fighting Arcadia."

Gilbert smiled sadly as she rubbed Light's head violently. Only one thing is certain, Light knows there is at least someone who is not really hostile to his late mother's family of origin.
